The Year of Saint Matthew25.12.16.

The Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ (Sunday Readings: of year A :: Breviary: Week i)

THIS SUNDAY’S MASSVigil Mass of Christmas

Scripture Isaiah 9: 1 – 7.Psalm 95.

O sing a new song to the Lordsing to the Lord all the earth.O sing to the Lord, bless his name.

Proclaim his help day by day, tell among the nations his gloryand his wonders among all the peoples.

Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad,/let the sea and all within it thunder praise,

let the land and all it bears rejoice, all the trees of the wood shout for joy/

as the presence of the Lord for he comes,he comes to rule the earth.

With justice he will rule the world,he will judge the peoples with his truth.

Titus 2: 11 – 14.Luke 2: 1 – 14.

Intercession : Lord hear us.Response : Lord, graciously hear us.

Another year has come to its end, for some it brought sorrow, for others joy, now a new year is just around the corner, what will that bring, that’s one question I can’t answer.

As I’m getting older (not sure about getting wiser) I’m learning to depend less on myself and more on the providence and goodness of the Lord.

The great and lamented Rabbi Lionel Blue a deeply spiritual man, walked a journey through life, a life both of joy and sorrow which taught him to place his hand into his Master’s, as he called him “Fred”, and to accept what the journey threw at him. I will journey into 2017 but I journey in a spirit of Joy and Hope because I have heard the Angel speak to me, “Michael, a Saviour has been born for you, a guide and companion for your life’s journey, He is Christ the Lord”.

He is your companion on your journey, you must seek Him and take Him into your arms whilst He is to be found and welcome Him into your heart.

Have courage my friends to visit the Christ Child and allow Him along with Mary, Joseph and the donkey to walk the Road of Light.

Wishing everyone in All Saints Parish a very Happy and Blessed Christmas, and thanking you all for supporting the clergy on their road during this last twelve months. Michael Patrick Evans.

Mass in the Day

Scripture : Isaiah 52: 7-10.Psalm 97

Sing a new song to the Lordfor he has worked wonders. His right hand and his holy armHave brought salvation.

The Lord has made known his salvation;has shown his justice to the nations. He has remembered his truth and lovefor the house of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seenthe salvation of our God.Shout to the Lord all the earth, ring out your joy

Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp, with the sound of music. With trumpets and the sound of the hornacclaim the King, the Lord.

The Peace and Joy of ChristmasChristmas is here again! How blessed are we to celebrate the presence of our Almighty God in taking our human form to live among us. How fortunate are we to be blessed with the peace and joy that comes from God our loving Father.

I am happy to celebrate Christmas here again in Newport. It is my second opportunity to celebrate Christmas here. One thing that makes Christmas here like Christmas in Ghana is the loving togetherness of God’s children to thank Him (God) for the gift of Himself. Again a Welsh Christmas and that of Ghana look alike when people are warm, loving, generous and nice to each other.

You have all been wonderful but special mention should be made of Canon Michael Evans (Daddy). Let us remember to be nice to one another this Christmas and spread the PEACE and JOY.

MERRY CHRISTMAS – Father John Boye

IN HOSPITAL?If you know of anyone who is in hospital or about to go into hospital and would like to receive holy communion while they are there, please ring the parish office leaving the persons’ name and if possible the name of the ward.

PLEASE NOTEThe parish office will be closed from Christmas Eve and will reopen on Tuesday 3rd January 2017.

It’s Christmas!

It was just before Christmas and the magistrate was in a happy mood. He asked the prisoner who was in the dock, 'What are you charged with?'

The prisoner replied, 'Doing my Christmas shopping too early.'

'That's no crime', said the magistrate. 'Just how early were you doing this shopping?'

'Before the shop opened', answered the prisoner.

Jim asked his friend, Tony, whether he had bought his wife anything for Christmas.

'Yes,' came the answer from Tony who was a bit of a chauvinist, 'I've bought her a belt and a bag.'

'That was very kind of you,' Jim added, 'I hope she appreciated the thought.'

GENERAL NOTICEBe aware of thieves. Please take all bags and valuables with you when you go to Holy Communion.

Christmas Offering Envelopes

Twice a year the clergy are entitled to claim as their own all that is collected - Easter and Christmas.

Happy Christmas to Father Joseph

The Parish of All Saints welcomes Father Joseph as he celebrates his first Christmas in Newport. We hope he finds Newport as warm and festive as his home in Ghana..

PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE GREETING CARDTrevor  will be in the porch after mass with  some    cards which  you can send  to  a British-Iranian charity worker, Nazanin Zaghari – Ratcliffe  who was arrested in April at Tehran Airport in April   as she was about to fly home to the UK  following a family visit.  Since then Nazanin has been allowed only very restricted visits from her family, subjected to solitary confinement, and accused of plotting the  “overthrow of the Islamic Republic’. She may have been coerced into making a ‘confession’. Nazanin’s family said she was sentenced to five years in prison on unspecified ‘national security related charges’ on 6th September. Her sister-in-law, is a GP  in Cwmbran

Thank you to those who offered to drive Father for our Christmas Mass.  Mathew Varghese will bring Father and Trever Williams will take Father back. The other volunteers will have a turn another time. Thank you to all the parishioners who have supported our Sunday tea and biscuits.  The contributions have come to £92 over some time.  This will be added to the donations in lieu of Christmas cards.   The total will be send to cancer research.

We will prepare the Church this Wednesday 21st at 9:am for our Christmas celebrations.  We will be grateful for your poinsettias.  We will start with Carols at 5:30pm on Christmas Eve.  Next Tuesday will be our last meeting for 2016.  There will be no meeting on Christmas week.  We will be back to normal again on Tuesday 3rd January.  We thank Our Lady of Perpetual Succour for the care she take of our parish and especially of our community. Mike Roberts has arranged to have a Mass for Edna Corsi  (Valerie’s mother) and the intention is also for Valerie, next Sunday 18th.   Edna will be a 100 years on New Year's Eve.

The Piety Stall has still a good supply.  Please pay it a visit before or after Mass.  This year we will make a donation to cancer research instead of sending cards to each other.

This month, we are particularly thinking about the people who work within the Bereavement Group.  They support bereaved people

in a variety of ways. They are always busy, especially at this time of the year.  Thank you Folks.

We would like to wish the Priests, Deacons, Sisters and everyone in All Saints parish a joyful Christmas.

Raffles tickets still on sale this week after mass.

This year, many of us are going to make a donation towards a new carpet for the church instead of sending each other Christmas cards. If you would like to join in this project please leave your donations in the dish at the back of the church.

Thanks to everyone who donated items to the Dementia Wards at St. Woolos.

New choir members  -  We urgently need new members to join the choir if you’re interested please contact Chris Pugsley - [email protected]

PIETY SHOP: Calendars, diaries, books for children and other items suitable for Christmas presents can be bought at the back of the church, near the door.

POINSETTIAS FOR CHRISTMASIf anyone would like to donate a Poinsettia in memory of a loved one will they please bring it to St. David’s by the 18th December and they will be displayed over the Christmas period.

I can see a problem looming on the horizon as we approach Christmas, that is Fathers’ John and Joseph not being able to attend the Community Churches as neither of them drive and need lifts.

We need a number of people from each community to volunteer and set up a rota. Please DO NOT LEAVE it each week to the same few people who have been helping so far.

No lifts sadly means NO MASS!

Please ring the Parish Office or speak to your Community Chairperson if you can perform this essential ministry.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION & RECONCILIATION

Enrollment will be on 12th January and then start on 26th January. Anyone who comes along after 26th January will need to join next year's program.
