From the beginning of February 2014, and for several weeks to come, the eyes of millions of people from around the world will be fixed on Sochi, as we welcome athletes and spectators from all five Olympic continents to Russia for an unrivalled celebration of the country’s first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

I have no doubt that our Games are going to be truly innovative. They will be a window for the world to see the new, modern Russia and experience our unique culture, in some cases, for the very first time. The Games will give us the opportunity to show that sport transcends global issues as people of the world join together in mutual respect and friendship.

I believe that the most important aspect that will make our Games a success will not be the ultra-modern sports venues and world class facilities, but you, our local and international spectators. After all, Sochi 2014 has been designed for everyone. It is your passion that will bring the venues to life. It is your support that will inspire the world’s best athletes to scale new sporting heights.

As Games organizers, we are making every effort to ensure that thousands of fans from around the world are able to attend the Games. This manual contains everything you need to know in order to be able to feel at home in Sochi — whichever country you are from, or whichever language you speak. The presence of international spectators alongside the world’s athletes and international volunteers will make the Sochi 2014 Winter Games a truly global event that will have a positive impact not only on Sochi, but the whole of Russia, for generations to come.

Don’t miss this chance to become part of Olympic history and to celebrate true sporting excellence in the spirit of international friendship.
