    Samhain has been celebrated

for centuries and has its origin

in Celtic traditions. It was the

time of year when the veils

    between this world and the

    Otherworld were believed to

be at their thinnest: when the

spirits of the dead could most

    readily mingle with the living

    once again. Later, when the

    festival was adopted by Chris-

tians, they celebrated it as All

    Hallows' Eve, followed by All

Saints Day, though it still re-

    tained elements of remember-

    ing and honoring the dead.

    To most modern Celts, while

death is still the central theme

of the festival this does not

mean it is a morbid event. For

Celts, death is not a thing to be

feared. Old age is valued for

its wisdom and dying is ac-

cepted as a part of life as nec-

    essary and welcome as birth.

    While Pagans, like people of

    other faiths, always honor and

    show respect for their dead,

    this is particularly marked at

    Samhain. Loved ones who

    have recently died are remem-

    bered and their spirits often

invited to join the living in the

celebratory feast. It is also a

time at which those born dur-

ing the past year are formally

    welcomed into the commu-

nity. As well as feasting, Pa-

    gans often celebrate Samahin

    with traditional games such as

    apple-donking.

    Death also symbolizes end-

    ings and Samhain is therefore

not only a time for reflecting

on mortality, but also on the

    passing of relationships, jobs

    and other significant changes

in life. A time for taking stock

of the past and coming to

terms with it, in order to move

on and look forward to the

    future.

    Karnahan said. Its songs are

    about drinking, libation cele-

new release. A lot of the

songs date back to the Gold

    Dan J. DeVille

    Veteran drummer Dan J. DeVille

bangs on the drums while belting out

both lead and backup vocals for the

band. His showmanship is truly top

shelf and he provides about 97% of the

band's energy. When he's not showing

off in front of a crowd or acting as the

    band's resident media technician, he's

busy spending time with his lovely

wife, Amanda. With over 25 years

    experience performing live music, Dan

truly puts the "vintage" in The Vintage

Vandals. And with a last name like

    "DeVille", he is often mistaken

for either a Disney character or a

burlesque dancer. But don't let that

scare you...we don't let him include

    that in our shows!

    Nick "The Heartthrob" Lamb

Dubbed "The Heartthrob" of the band

    (against his will),

Nick is one of the band's original

    founding members.

Slapping the upright bass, Nick drives

    the girls

wild and chimes in with backup

    vocals.

With his '64 Ford Ranch Wagon, he

    carries most of the

    band's gear to their

    gigs along

    with his lovely wife

    and

    Vandal photographer,

    Nicole on his right.

Better known as "The Face" of

the band, "Cat Daddy" Corey is

    one of the original founding

    members of The Vintage
