1 The Flex booklet could have been made available a few weeks ago. There is no ability to report our flex as itemshave not been submitted online. Working on accreditation and learning how to use FLAC and CurricUNET wouldhave been more useful than assessment.

3 Publish a booklet earlier. 8/19/2015 4:34 PM

4 Have Flex for 2 days instead of 1. If I attend 2 meetings for my department plus the Ed Tech department meeting(as I teach online), I don't have time for anything else - any workshops or new stuff.

9 The guest speakers were pretty lightweight. Maybe we should survey the faculty for better recommendations forfuture events.

8/18/2015 6:37 PM

10 Not hired the guest speakers. Their presentation was a mind-numbingly stupid talk-down about how we shouldfeel about SLOs. It was by turns condescending, poorly-researched, and insulting. A real "lipstick on a pig" sort ofevent.

36 Please get the booklet out in a timely fashion. I found it very strange that the booklet came out a day or twobefore the event though clearly arrangements with the external presenters would have required confirmation atleast one month earlier. It makes very little sense that the program wasn't finalized for release online since thetwo presenters rather than a multitude of small sessions were the bulk of the flex day meetings.

37 Instead of one day, I wish we could have two flex mornings. This would enable us to 1) get in all of our meetings -- everyone has meetings, 2) better attend all of the flex day programming, and 3) most importantly, it would allowus to serve / enroll / advise the students in the afternoons *before* classes actually begin.

8/16/2015 9:47 PM

38 distribute Flex information sooner 8/16/2015 9:41 PM

39 I am sorry to say but this was the most poorly Flex day I have attended. Schedules were not released until theday prior to flex. Department meeting rooms were not listed until the last moment. Selection of workshops waspractically nil.

8/16/2015 8:06 PM

40 It probably would be nice to have a food truck for people to buy lunch. 8/16/2015 7:27 PM

41 Surprised there were fewer break-out workshops 8/16/2015 7:23 PM

42 Offer two sessions of the Hiring Committee Orientation, as I wasn't able to attend the Thursday session. 8/16/2015 5:23 PM

43 allow workshops in the afternoon 8/16/2015 5:14 PM

44 It's hard when everything is at the same time. I can only be in one place at one time. Maybe more sessions onThursday.

8/16/2015 5:09 PM

45 Many of us have no classes on Fridays, so attendance was voluntary. Maybe schedule it when it can be requiredand compensated.

8/16/2015 12:52 PM

46 Keeping relatively simple messages brief. The bit about making the improvement process student-orientedinstead of accreditation-oriented can be summed into about 10 minutes and would be more effective. Short andsweet works.

8/16/2015 12:49 PM

47 I liked the Marshall presentation, but it was hard to actually hear and assimilate because we are in the middle ofsuch pressure for compliance.

8/16/2015 11:08 AM

48 More information workshops - retirement, health plans, etc. SLO keynote repetitive of information that's beenpromoted at CCSF for years. No genuine insights. Noting new or inspiring.

8/16/2015 10:24 AM

49 Flex schedules should be sent out earlier. Very, very few interesting workshops. 8/16/2015 9:16 AM

50 Another day as there were competing events. 8/16/2015 9:12 AM

51 None-I liked this year's Flex more than most years 8/16/2015 1:59 AM

52 Getting paid for FLEX day activities-like other districts that pay faculty for FLEX participation 8/15/2015 9:54 PM

53 Anticipate more scheduling conflicts 8/15/2015 9:48 PM

54 I'd have liked a more relevant keynote speaker. It was pretty general and, while the idea was good, I didn't muchlike the "cutesy" delivery of the speakers and it seemed to have too little actual help for me as an assessor ofSLOs, etc, and too much double-speak and jargon. I'm sure those speakers are fine professionals at their jobs, but they didn't inspire a whit of confidence in me. Again, I think their idea of making assessment meaningful isimportant -- they did not, however, deliver it well. It was simultaneously too long and not informative enough, andsounded a bit preachy, too boot.

55 I've never been a fan of flex days (I just don't feel that the speeches and workshops have significant value-added), but given that they are not going away... I don't see anything that needed changing.

8/15/2015 8:10 PM

56 SLO presentation was generic and uninspiring. Should have tailored it to directly address the concerns of ourfaculty and our college.

8/15/2015 4:30 PM

57 It would have been better if it had been made crystal-clear that there would not be any discipline-specificprofessional development workshops. Many of the ESL instructors are accustomed to having the opportunity toattend ESL-specific sessions on Flex Day. While it was fine to have college-wide sessions related toassessment, it would've been less confusing to ESL faculty at least if it had been explicitly stated that the formatfor yesterday's Flex Day would be different.

8/15/2015 4:20 PM

58 I was not too impressed with the key note speakers - a lot of what they said should be self-understood by nowand was very general.

8/15/2015 3:00 PM

59 Food 8/15/2015 2:48 PM

60 I wish the town meeting had been scheduled earlier in the day. I think more people would have attended it. 8/15/2015 2:31 PM

61 Get Evelyn more help, so that display tables can be set up for different vendors, and workshops can be heldthrough the afternoon for CCSF employees to attend.

8/15/2015 1:02 PM

62 Why does our dean have other meetings to attend during our department business meeting? She should be ableto stay the entire time.

8/15/2015 12:12 PM

63 I don't know what's to be done about this but there were too many conflicts on Friday afternoon. I wanted to be infour different places at once!

8/15/2015 12:10 PM

64 The "keynote speakers" seemed to be addressing high school students rather than highly educated professionalswith years of experience in higher education. Once I heard them speak, I decided not to attend their workshops.Rather than bring in keynote speakers, it might be more effective to give faculty opportunities to work with oneanother on productive tasks (vs. exercises) directly related to work that must be completed (say for example, thecollege's Self Evaluation due in Fall 2016). Room changes were frustrating and low attendance throughout theday was disheartening.

8/15/2015 12:07 PM

65 Eliminate overlap of starting and ending times so more events could be attended 8/15/2015 11:50 AM

66 Information was sent out very late. Things are scheduled at the same time, making it very difficult to attend manysessions. Student Equity Plan funding proposals were also due on the same day, making it difficult to completethose, since it was our first chance to get together as a faculty group, and also pariticpate fully in the flex dayevents.

8/15/2015 11:26 AM

67 1.Hard copies of handouts ran out.It is easier to follow the lecture and take notes on the points the presenter isemphasizing. 2.If there was a lunch arranged in all divisions it would have allowed the college community to gettogether and talk.

8/15/2015 11:21 AM

68 It would be helpful to have time and knowledge for facilitating certain services such as transportation vouchers (ifthey exist).

8/15/2015 11:07 AM

69 The speakers from San Bernadino were coming from a school that had less SLO Assessment experience thanwe do. Their presentations were extremely basic and did not add to what we already know.

8/15/2015 11:00 AM

70 - The Flex Day booklet needs to be released earlier. It used to come out at the end of the spring semester. -There should be more opportunity for attending critical workshops (e.g., FLAC training).

8/15/2015 10:57 AM

71 workshops on sharing ideas, teaching strategies to improve teaching 8/15/2015 10:56 AM

72 no idea...I had to attend department meeting for most of flex 8/15/2015 10:43 AM

73 I would like to provide constructive feedback, but it is hard and I don't know how to state it in a diplomaticmanner. I have been an instructor for more than 10 years which means that I have attended more than 20 flexdays....The afternoon workshops were not as helpful as the ones presented by our diverse faculty in the past. Also, it is not inspiring to realize that only a handful of faculty, part/full timers attend Flex. It seems that there areless and less faculty/staff attending the workshops. Attending flex should be mandatory because it doesn't makesense that an employee doesn't understand what is going on in their workplace.

8/15/2015 10:22 AM

74 Provide more workshop options. 8/15/2015 10:20 AM

75 Publish the flex day book more than one day in advance. Publish it weeks in advance. There is no reason not to. 8/15/2015 10:19 AM

76 Presenters assume that there would be faculty who have never served on a hiring orientation or hiringcommitteeat a very large hiring orientation. The orientations havent been made available in a long time to asizable audience, be thoughtful that there is a lot information to cover and that you might be leaving newbies at adisadvantage against faculty who have served for decades on committes who may take advantage of processeswhen lack of knowledge of procedures surfaces.

8/15/2015 10:04 AM

77 over lapping of Union gathering and Q&A was a faux pas?? 8/15/2015 9:55 AM

78 There was a FLAC workshop, but the time and room wasn't posted anywhere. It could have been really usefuland helpful for a many faculty if we'd known about it. Needed an addendum to the schedule, announcements, etc.

8/15/2015 9:53 AM

79 Q&A not one question about classified yet the communication topic does affect everyone 8/15/2015 9:50 AM

80 Emphasize that equity is about working together to make sure ALL students succeed at CCSF and NOT aboutdivisive identity politics or ideology. Emphasize CCSF will not longer tolerate the shrill voice of one group toterrorize and dominate the college.

8/15/2015 9:50 AM

81 Town Hall overlapped with other meetings like AFT - really? 8/15/2015 9:07 AM

82 Surprisingly few workshops available to attend. 8/15/2015 9:00 AM

83 Not repeat old information. Guest speakers topic been covered. 8/15/2015 8:59 AM

84 The San Bernardino speakers (sorry, forgot their names) had absolutely nothing new to say. How many times arethese same processes going to be described to us? (continuous quality improvement!) I had heard that this manis just an associate of ACCJC, but I hadn't heard that he had nothing new to offer. I really wish the PD team wouldstop limiting faculty presentations, which are actually interesting, so that we all have to attend this kind ofnonsense. If that guy humble-bragged one more time about being a medievalist, I was going to pelt him with myfree apples and oranges.

8/15/2015 8:57 AM

85 Nothing 8/15/2015 8:56 AM

86 Why bring in keynote speakers who assume that we are first-year students? Their presentations were well done, but the content is really remedial. Are there really instructors at CCSF who learned something from thesepresentations. Also, the Q+A needed a moderator and time limits. Please bring back the idea that we can learnfrom instructors at CCSF. We know that we have some of the best.

8/15/2015 8:45 AM

87 We need to get back to professional development on FLEX day. 8/15/2015 8:19 AM

88 We need to have healthy food options 8/15/2015 8:08 AM

89 We need to have more time for department meetings 8/15/2015 7:53 AM

90 See #2 above. 8/15/2015 7:33 AM

91 Flex schedule was horribly late. Planning was very difficult. We expected an extended department meeting slotbut this did not happen.

8/15/2015 7:21 AM

92 Offer other classes such as diversity or flipping classes. 8/15/2015 7:00 AM

93 Information about scheduled program out ahead of time. 8/15/2015 6:51 AM

94 The SLO speakers' back and forth presentation was a little odd. Maybe taking turns would have given theirmessage better flow.

8/15/2015 6:20 AM

95 The CSUSB presentation was too much fluff, PR, and not enough nuts and bolts. The best part of theirpresentation was the biology faculty who shared her department's results for one class broken down bysubgroups.

102 Get the flex day program out at least one week ahead of time. A rough agenda for the day should be out at leasttwo weeks ahead of time. People should at least know how late their day is going to run with some notice, sothey can plan accordingly. Scheduled real professional development activities for teachers in the middle of theday. There weren't that many opportunities for faculty to actually "develop."

8/14/2015 8:59 PM

103 Diego Rivera Theater too small a space for so many people, I think. 8/14/2015 8:27 PM

104 put out the schedule a little earlier. It was confusing to try to figure out what was going on 8/14/2015 8:18 PM

105 The schedule for FLEX should have been posted online in a timely manner. More events need to be available ifwe are to be expected to fulfill the required number of hours for the year.

8/14/2015 8:17 PM

106 1)The booklets need to get posted earlier. 2)There was confusion about the start time for the ESL Dept. meeting3)When Flex Days began, they were supposed to be significantly different from the old "Planning Day" whichconsisted of the Chancellor's welcome, Academic Senate Plenary and Department meetings. The new Flex Dayswere supposed to be about professional development, but not limited to workshops in one's own field. We wereencouraged to explore offerings in other departments and I learned about offerings in Art, PE, Music etc. Now wehave gone back to the old-fashioned Planning Day and didn't even have an workshops in our own fields toattend.

8/14/2015 8:14 PM

107 it was a great day! 8/14/2015 8:10 PM

108 Not sure 8/14/2015 8:09 PM

109 Marshak and ?? should have worked more with CCSF SLO Coordinators for a message that felt more a part ofour current situation and struggles.

8/14/2015 8:02 PM

110 There were no opportunities for diversity credits. 8/14/2015 8:00 PM

111 There was no diversity workshop that I could find. Since we are required to attend them, there needs to be oneevery flex day.

8/14/2015 7:59 PM

112 a) Inform us about the program/schedule for the day in advance! 8/14/2015 7:47 PM

113 Run meetings and presentations on time. Not the administrations fault, but the instructors were often busycatching up with colleagues after the summer and dud not pay attention to time.

8/14/2015 7:33 PM

114 More inspiring keynote would have been good, more useful afternoon workshops.Should not have underminedthe union by putting chancellor Q and A in competition with it.

8/14/2015 7:30 PM

115 Put out the flex day schedule in June. Actually offered us professional development opportunities, as in havingsome choices of different workshops to attend. We should actually be able to improve our professional skills andhave different topics and themes to choose from. The accreditation/SLO propaganda is not professionaldevelopment.

8/14/2015 7:26 PM

116 it would be nice to have some workshops that allow us to get diversity/equity credit..... 8/14/2015 7:19 PM

117 Bring a keynote speaker NOT associated with Lumina/ACCJC. 8/14/2015 7:14 PM

118 More small group activities. 8/14/2015 7:07 PM

119 Gte FLEX booklet and overall communication about FLEX out earlier. 8/14/2015 7:04 PM

120 Keeping to time allotted for each session. Some ran late, pushing whether I would make it to the next meeting. 8/14/2015 7:01 PM

121 Earlier notification of schedule 8/14/2015 6:42 PM

122 Offered diversity workshops. 8/14/2015 6:39 PM

123 The union talks seemed to be more adversarial than I would likel 8/14/2015 6:35 PM

124 I would like to have more in-house generated presentations. I prefer to attend workshops created and deliveredby CCSF faculty and staff. I didn't find the outside guest presenters either relevant or useful.

8/14/2015 6:35 PM

125 VCSD missed opportunity to address his new area when he canceled divison meeting the night before. He pulleda "Virginia Parras" move by canceling it. It was disappointing, and not a good way to start out as a leader. Weneed a leader who will step up and interact with us, and who treats us with respect and professionalism that wedeserve. He didn't even attend the All Counseling Faculty meeting. He needs to address why he cancelled it. Noexcuse will be acceptable. But glad he was at the Q & A forum; but we needed our own time with him as adivision.

126 More interesting keynote - less detailed topic. A topic about leadership and how to get along during adversesituations.

8/14/2015 6:12 PM

127 You continually schedule events that faculty who are in department meetings and team meetings can't attend. Please arrange for streaming of Chancellor's address to centers. We have been requesting this for several years.

8/14/2015 5:45 PM

128 no thoughts at present 8/14/2015 5:45 PM

129 Offering Zumba sessions as a classified professional development was offending 8/14/2015 5:42 PM

130 offer more substantive professional development courses, subjects to include program development, actualtechniques and methods of research development and survey development, that somehow we are supposed todo now but have no training in it.

8/14/2015 5:28 PM

131 Key note was too general. 8/14/2015 5:26 PM

132 I like the new emphasis on program improvement, but the material is still somewhat vague. Case studies ofdifferent programs would have been nice

8/14/2015 5:24 PM

133 n/a 8/14/2015 5:22 PM

134 Perhaps limiting the time allotted for department meetings. Our department met from 10:45 AM-3:00PM whichdoes not leave much time to attend workshops to satisfy the diversity requirements.

8/14/2015 5:18 PM

135 Have the program available on the website at least a few days, maybe a week, in advance of the FLEX 8/14/2015 5:13 PM

136 Prof development by teachers for teachers 8/14/2015 5:07 PM

137 Some meetings, workshops actually overlapped with others. Why? Seems avoidable. 8/14/2015 5:01 PM

138 Coordinate on correct start times. Offer workshops led by instructors 8/14/2015 4:50 PM

139 I would like more programs like in previous years. The offerings were limited. 8/14/2015 4:46 PM

140 The Keynote Speakers in the morning spoke to us as though we didn't know anything about SLO's. I didn't getanything useful from their talk.

8/14/2015 4:45 PM

141 SO many white people presenting! Hire consultants of color who are experts in evaluation... Let's model diversity. 8/14/2015 4:42 PM

142 Have more Zumba stress reduction workshops. 8/14/2015 4:39 PM

143 I was disappointed that so much was scheduled concurrently/overlapped...Couldn't be in two places at once. 8/14/2015 4:36 PM

144 Guest speakers could have been more engaging. 8/14/2015 4:33 PM

145 healthier snacks 8/14/2015 4:30 PM

146 Booked the gym at the Wellness Center and not the Rivera auditorium. People wanted to be present and couldn'tbe. Overflow rooms are not the same thing at all.

8/14/2015 4:23 PM

147 It's time to have more faculty presenting. We've had enough "101" courses from "experts." 8/14/2015 4:21 PM

148 More dialogues between managements and faculties 8/14/2015 4:16 PM

149 Schedule handed out earlier 8/14/2015 4:07 PM

150 The keynote could have had more specific examples. 8/14/2015 4:05 PM

151 Include some different workshops (faculty/staff presenters) in the afternoon in addition to the SLO sessions 8/14/2015 4:05 PM

152 Dept meeting needs/time conflicted with ability to attend other flex activities 8/14/2015 4:01 PM

20 Important but we are in survival mode..we need to know who works here, who has left, how we can survive themonth, what classes are being cancelled, how to handle payroll issues, who to call when things are broken, etc.So many staff have left or are leaving that we are treading water... assessment happens after we havesomething to assess...we are worried about making it through the month..

49 That it's not significantly different from what we do already (at least in my department). The notion that we shouldthink of SLO assessment as student-centered rather than a response to accreditation requirements seems naive- ACCJC's requirements are too cumbersome and too nitpicky to allow that.

58 My department already felt it was doing authentic instructional assessment before accreditation woes began. Itmay take the aging out of our faculty before any sustained enthusiasm can be found for using authenticassessment to bring about effective "continuous improvement" in course delivery. Generally, my colleagues aremuch more concerned with authentic assessment in regard to administration (stability, true leadership, andconcrete, positive changes), the way the physical plant is maintained and run, and the delivery of studentservices. Generally, faculty feel that in regards to student learning outcomes on the course level, the college isdoing (and has always done) well--- there is ample evidence to demonstrate this.

8/15/2015 12:07 PM

59 Assessment must be student focused and meaningful. 8/15/2015 11:50 AM

60 We already knew how to do this and have tried to do it in the past. The speakers didn't say anything we didn'talready know. We didn't need someone to explain it to us. But, even though we have tried to do it this way, wekeep getting pushed back into doing things only to get the reports filed for accreditation. The SLO reportingrequirements keep changing and getting more complex and that is exactly the opposite of what the speakerswere recommending. Why bring in speakers to tell us things we already know but are not really encouraged to doby the system we're forced to work within?

8/15/2015 11:26 AM

61 Move away from the culture of compliance to a culture of reflection to make our classes meaningful to ourstudents. We do have to study our effectiveness in our classroom using SLOs as tools of analysis. Not becausewe have to address the accreditation standards only. Designing the tools for assessment is the key in addressingdifferent types of courses.

8/15/2015 11:21 AM

62 We have a chancellor who cares about the faculty and our new system with Curricunet will help the school andeven we the faculty to better serve our students.

8/15/2015 11:07 AM

63 We should be focusing on directing our efforts towards enhancing student learning, not adopting a culture ofcompliance to perform tasks just to fulfill Accreditation expectations.

77 That we're doing it. 8/15/2015 8:45 AM

78 Yes, I agree that authentic assessment and an intentional model of SLOs is more meaningful and more likely to"close the gap" and improve programs and services. It's just so obvious to me that we are being crammed into thecompliance model by frenzied efforts to make it through the everchanging the restoration process. And now weare expected to feel guilty about not making this punishing process meaningful?

8/14/2015 8:17 PM

98 It would be nice to be able to focus on the students again without having to make sure we were feeding theAccreditation Commission what they wanted to see, and we are not out of line to want to find a way to make thatdream a reality.

99 making it meaningful 8/14/2015 8:10 PM

100 SLO assessments, how important they are and how to take advantage of the data. 8/14/2015 8:09 PM

101 I said no to the answer above about dialogue is because this has been a regular dialogue in our departmentmeetings outside of flex day. There was so much business to take care of, there was not a chance to talk aboutthis again, but we did take part in an "authentic assessment" in the extended department meeting, so maybe thatwas implied rather than explicit? I think most of us "get" this, but the keynote could have been geared moretoward our unique situation. The highlight was when the speakers mentioned not having upheld their standardsafter their initial work on SLOs. That might have been a good starting point for the presentation. I believe the vastmajority of faculty want assessment to be meaningful, but there is also a strong feeling of having to check theboxes and fulfill the ACCJC's expectations. After all, we are in NOT in a position to NOT worry aboutaccreditation -- as was mentioned in the presentation. The ACCJC has made that very clear. So, while we wereinvited not to think in terms of accreditation, that is surely at the back of all our minds right now, and rightly so.That said, I applaud all of our faculty, as Chancellor Lamb did today, for our focus on our students. That is why Isay we "get" this. Our students are why we are here!

8/14/2015 8:00 PM

102 That teachers have been given huge amounts of extra work to do for the administration, but we are being paidless than we were in 2007, when none of this work was required. This is not fair. Meanwhile administrators, whodo less work than teachers, are paid much more than we are. Something is wrong with this picture, folks.

8/14/2015 7:59 PM

103 Our unit talked about our own assessment - a very necessary conversation. The lack of advance info made itvery difficult for us to plan for our own unit - didn't know how much time we'd have until last minute

108 David Marshall created a medieval tale with 3 characters illustrated on PowerPoint. When the wolf appeared, afaculty colleague yelled out "ACCJC!" (Very true.) Marshall laughed but then said "that's a Marxist interpretation".This is RED-BAITING, and many of us are old enough to remember the McCarthy Era, when it was no joke.
