A Thought Upon Entering:
The Bible is full of references to eating and drinking...Mealtimes can be
times when human relationships are deepened, differences ironed out,
times when the spiritual side of seemingly secular situations can come to
be seen in new perspective….The man who fed 5000, dined with Zac-
cheus, washed the feet of friends in the upper room, broke bread in Em-
maus, and fed tired colleagues with breakfast on the beach, he it was who
said to those about him: Blessed are they who hunger and thirst to do
what is right; for they shall be filled.

“Come Christians, Join to Sing/
Shout to the Lord”
Come, Christians, join to sing
Alleluia! Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King;
Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice,
Before His throne rejoice;
Praise is His gracious choice.
Alleluia! Amen!
Come, lift your hearts on high,
Alleluia! Amen!
Let praises fill the sky;
Alleluia! Amen!
He is our Guide and Friend;
To us He’ll condescend;
His love shall never end.
Alleluia! Amen!
Praise yet our Christ again,
Alleluia! Amen!
Life shall not end the strain;
Alleluia! Amen!
On heaven’s blissful shore,
His goodness we’ll adore,
Singing forevermore,
“Alleluia! Amen!”
Interlude
Verse:
My Jesus, my Savoir,
Lord there is none like You;
All of my days, I want to praise
the wonders of Your mighty love.
My Comfort, my Shelter,
Tower of refuge and strength,
Let every breath, all that I am
never cease to Worship You.
Chorus:
Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing.
Power and majesty, praise to the King!
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
at the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
Forever Iʹll love You, forever Iʹll stand;
Nothing compares to the promise I have in
You!
*Repeat Verse
*Repeat Chorus
Nothing compares to the promise I have
Nothing compares to the promise I have
Nothing compares to the promise I have in
You!
“I’ll Fly Away/
When the Roll is Called up Yonder”
Verse 1:
Some glad morning when this life is oʹer,
Iʹll fly away;
To a home on Godʹs celestial shore, Iʹll fly
away.
Chorus:
Iʹll fly away O glory, Iʹll fly away;
When I die hallelujah by and by, Iʹll fly
away.
Verse 2:
Just a few more weary days and then, Iʹll
fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end, Iʹll fly
away.
*Repeat Chorus
Interlude
Verse 1:
When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound,
and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks eternal,
bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over
on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder
Iʹll be there.
Chorus:
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder Iʹll be
there.
Verse 2:
Let us labor for the Master from
the dawn till seZing sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and
care;
Then when all of life is over,
and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder Iʹll be
there!
*Repeat Chorus
“They’ll Know We Are Christians
By our Love”
We are one in the Spirit,
We are one in the Lord,
We are one in the Spirit,
We are one in the Lord,
And we pray that all unity
May one day be restored.
And theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love, By our love
Yes, theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand in hand
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand in hand
And together weʹll spread the news
That God is in our land
And theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love, By our love
Yes, theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
And weʹll guard each manʹs dignity
And save each manʹs pride
And theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love, By our love
Yes, theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love
All praise to the Father
From whom all things come
And all praise to Christ Jesus His only son
And all praise to the Spirit
Who makes us one
And theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love, By our love
Yes, theyʹll know we are Christians
By our love

ANNUAL CHURCH PICNIC TODAY at 12 NOON Jim Barnett Park, Kiwanis Shelter 1 (same location as last year). Lunch at 12:15 pm, Softball and Bingo to start at 1 pm. Bring your signature dish and join others for lunch, bingo, softball, volleyball, kids games and scavenger hunt. Smoked BBQ chicken, sausages, drinks and rolls provided. HOSPITAL VISITATION New privacy rules are in place which makes it more challenging for the pastors to know if you are in the hospital. If you would like to receive a pastoral call during hospitalizations it is important that you be sure to register as a Presbyterian when you are admitted or have a family member call the church to let us know. The pastors want to be available, but are not aware unless these steps are taken. Thank you. TASK FORCE ON STAFFING The Task Force on Church Staffing continues to meet. The focus has changed somewhat with Maren's change of plans and the congregation's vote to enable her to stay as Associate Pastor. The task force is now addressing the recommendation of the Youth Renovation Team to the Session regarding staffing for youth ministry. The plan is to provide a report to Session by the end of summer. Children in Worship
We welcome children learning to worship alongside their adult family members and with their church family. Worship bags are available in the hallway outside the sanctuary for use by children, as well as the Children’s Own Worship Library bookshelf for children to borrow a book to aid them in worshipping. This summer, we also offer child care during the worship services for infants and toddlers up to age 2 in room 108-109, and today there is a summer Sunday School program for children ages 3 through current 1st graders.
mittee consists of June Hess, Ed Pendleton, Gordon Stearns, Cindia Stewart, Michelle Sydnor, Mike Thompson, Courtney Warner. COMING SOON: 101 Ways to Serve/Serving Christ with Our Time and Talents Cyber-Fair on Rally Day Sept. 7th. Mark your calendars now to join in our first Volunteer Cyber-Fair (formerly called Opportunity Fair). All councils of our church will highlight needs on our church web site www.fpcwinc.org. Log in and see where the needs are and where you fit in with your time and talents! On Rally Day look for information tables on our first floor, pick up the 101 Ways to Serve handout, log on (at church or at home) and locate 1 need from the list for each council. Turn your list in and receive a shopping tote with the church name and web site on it. Information tables will be available thru the Sundays in September or until the shopping totes run out. This Cyber-Fair is brought to you by Congregational Life Council. NEWS FROM ETHIOPIA Since 2010, our congregation has helped pay the tuition at the Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa for a member of the Mettu congregation named Berhanu. Our partners in Mettu selected Berhanu to be educated, trained, and ordained, and with God's direction, become the next pastor at Mettu, when the current pas-tor, Kes Demmi retires. We are very pleased to report that Berhanu has completed his seminary program and graduat-ed on June 28, 2014. Stay tuned for more updates, as we hope to find a way to acknowledge his accomplishment and new ways to support our partners in Ethiopia. Please keep Berhanu, his family, Kes Demmi, and the elders and mem-bers of the Mettu congregation in your prayers. GUARDIAN ANGELS is a group who provide meals to those church members in need due to things such as a medi-cal issue, a death in the family or the birth of a baby. We are looking for more volunteers. You only participate when it fits into your schedule, so you can do it as much or as little as you want. Please join us by contacting Lesley Cov-ington at [email protected] or (540)303-3838. UPCOMING TRAINING CLASS FOR HOLY GROUNDS COFFEE PROGRAM Patsy Cress, with Holy Grounds Coffee Program, will hold a training class in the church kitchen Sun., Sept. 14, at 9:45 a.m. Learn what the steps are to help make coffee and set up and take down the offering of coffee, drinks and snacks in the gathering space on Sundays. Everyone's help is needed, even if you can only help for a portion of the time on a Sunday. Any questions? Please contact Patsy Cress at [email protected].
THE LUNCH BUNCH will begin the 2014-15 lunch year on September 1 (Labor Day) at 12:30 p.m. at the Apple Blossom Diner (formerly Shoney's), 1359 Berryville Avenue. Men are invited to enjoy the luncheon also. This time spent together is not a senior function but is open to anyone who would like to share good food and great fellowship. Contact: September Hostess of the Month Bonnie Carter, 540-955-3100.
THE GUIDE TO RESTORATION OF RIGHTS, produced by Advancement Project, is available in the church library. The guide is an outline of all that is necessary for ex-offenders to apply for and restore their rights, namely the right to vote, to serve on a jury, to hold an office and to serve as a notary public. THE SYCAMORE CLASS plans to study C. S. Lewis next year. We have selected seven of his many books. The seven books we have selected are in a single volume “The Complete C. S. Lewis Signature Classics” which is about $20 on Amazon. All the individual books are available in the church library and are on a separate labeled shelf. You may wish to read some of them over the summer. We will begin with “Mere Christianity.”
