MORTE DI UN GURU Rabindranath R. Maharaj discende da una lunga stirpe di sacerdoti e di guru bramini e fu educato allo scopo di divenire uno yoghi. Si esercitava per lunghe ore al giorno in misteriosi riti e preghiere e nell’adorazione dei suoi numerosi dèi. Durante le sue meditazioni cadeva in trance, entrava in contatto con degli «spiriti», vedeva luci psichedeliche, udiva musiche misteriose e veniva trasportato in altri mondi. Rabi approfondì le sue conoscenze nel campo dell’astrologia e ottenne il titolo di pundit induista. La popolazione lo adorava come un dio e deponeva delle offerte ai suoi piedi. Quando, col passare del tempo, il giovane guru cominciò sentirsi deluso, iniziò a rimettere in discussione le sue conoscenze ed esperienze mistiche. Nella sua biografia l’autore descrive vividamente ed onestamente la vita indù e i suoi costumi, spiega la sua difficile ricerca del significato della vita e la lotta sostenuta quando dovette fare una scelta fra l’induismo e Cristo. Il suo interessante libro rappresenta inoltre, grazie al suo glossario, un piccolo vocabolario dei termini indù più conosciuti. (Cosa significa per esempio Brahman, yoga, guru, karman, Krishna, mantra, maya, ecc.?) Spread frosting onto cooled brownies in the pan. Cut into squares. Make a heart stencil out of paper, place over a brownie, and dust with snow-white non-melting sugar to create a sugar-dusted heart.

Customize your brownies by adding up to 1 cup of your favorite chips or nuts.

B A K E R ’ S TI P

1 • PREHEAT oven to 325°F. Grease one 8" x 8" x 2" pan.

2 • COMBINE oil or butter, water, and eggs. Add mix and blend vigorously until shiny.

3 • SPREAD batter evenly in prepared pan.

4 • BAKE for 38 to 42 minutes, until set. A cake tester inserted into center will have a few moist crumbs, for fudgier texture, or clean for cake-like texture.

5 • LET cool before cutting.
