Pendik, which has the attribute of being the gateway to Istanbul when coming from Anatolia, is situated on the south-west of the Kocaeli peninsula. The county is bordered by Tuzla to the East, Sultanbeyli to the North, Kartal to the West and the Marmara Sea to its South.Pendik is 39km to the centre of Istanbul. Its distance to the closest city centre outside the Istanbul border, Kocaeli, is 72km. Pendik consists of 5 villages and 30 districts. The county has a surface area of 188km² and a 9 km coast line.

In Pendik there are a total of 85 nurseries, one university, 64 Primary Schools, 6 Technical and Industrial Vocational High Schools, 3 Anatolia High Schools, 11 Religious Vocational High School, 3 Trade Vocational High School, 2 Anatolia Trade and Com-merce Vocational High Schools, 3 Girls’ Vocational High Schools, 1 Anatolia Marine Vocational High School,5 Private Health Vocational High School, 2 Tourism and Hotel Manage-ment Vocational High School and 1 Private Marine Vocational High School.


Travel:

Pendik is an easily accessible district in terms of travel. There are all sorts of transportation available in Pendik; such as highway, sea, air and railway. Most of the highway travel is carried out by public transportation. In terms of sea transportation İDO (Istanbul Sea Bus), External Line Sea Bus and Fast Ferry journeys provide transportation from Pendik to Yalova. It is also possible to get to the neighbouring districts with the Domestic Line Sea Bus Journeys in the morning hours. Besides this, container freight from abroad is done via the Ro-Ro Port.

There is also railway transportation available in Pendik. (Suspended for 24 months as of 19th June 2013 due to construction works). The railway line runs from Pendik to Haydarpaşa. There was also an intercity train line that passed from Pendik which provided transportation from Istanbul to many Anatolian cities; however this has been suspended for a while due to the construction works for a new high-speed railway. The Sabiha Gökçen International Airport which is one of two airports in Istanbul is also located in Pendik. Domestic and international flights are conducted under one roof in the new terminal building which has an annual capacity for 25 million pas-sengers.


Gözdağı:

Gözdağı is a 206 metre high beautiful hill hidden amongst pine scents that is a must see with its view of Istanbul, Princess Islands and even Yalova. The picnic areas, viewing pergolas, children’s playground and excursion areas within the facility open its doors everyday of the week to those that want to spend their day in a natural environment.

There is a social facility that resembles an aerie with its wooden architecture when you reach the top of the hill. Within the social facility is a restaurant where you can taste a variety of foods.

Shopping and Leisure

Pendik Marina:

It has a 750 yacht capacity in the marina, 100 yacht capacity in the slipway and a 720m long pier. In the fishing shelter there is capacity for 200 boats and there is also a car park for 1400 vehicles. There are also many restaurants and shops at the marina. Boat shows, festivals and concerts are organised at the Pendik Marina.

Via/Port

The rentable store area is 69 thousand m2 and there are 188 stores and a car park with 4500 vehicle capacity in total. Via Port is an open-air concept shopping mall; there are streets, squares, green areas, even a large pond in which ducks swim. Peacocks, pigeons, and rabbits live near the pond. There is a large entertainment centre in the foreground of the shopping centre which both adults and kids take a great interest in. Via Port has received many awards so far. The ‘Best Outlet Shopping Mall of the Year’ in 2009 by AMPD, and chosen as the ‘best outlet of the year’ in both 2009 and 2010 by the newspaper Hürriyet.


Neomarin Shopping Centre

It has a total of 80 thousand m2 indoor area and has 105 stores. It also has the first cineplex; Cinemaximum with 8 screens, along the Maltepe İzmit route. Pendorya Shopping Centre is 1,5 km to the coast and 8 km to Sabiha Gökçen Airport. The shopping centre is located on the side of the E-5 (highway) so is easily accessible by car and public transport.

The health services in Pendik are carried out by the Health Group Chairmanship. 23 Community Health Centres and 3 Health Homes serve as part of the Health Group Chairmanship. Alongside these there is 1 Mother Child Health and Family Planning Centre, 1 Tuberculosis Control Dispensary and 1 Community Health Laboratory. In Pendik there are 4 private hospitals, 8 polyclinics, 8 medical centres, 5 oral and dental health polyclinics, over a 100 surgeries, 41 laboratories related to various branches, 2 dialysis centres and 144 pharmacies with 13 health cabinets. The Pendik State Hospital serves in Kaynarca and Sapanbağları as well as in the Pendik Centre, and it also serves with the Station Local Clinics. The Marmara Uni-versity Pendik Training & Research Hospital which is the biggest hospital on the Anatolian side with 540 beds serves in Pendik.

In time the hospital capacity was not enough to serve the public therefore an additional building was built in 2002. The bed capacity rose to 100. The hospital continues to serve with the Central Building, Kaynarca District Polyclinic Haemodialysis Centre, Station and Sapanbağları and Kurtköy Polyclinics.

There are many centres built by Pendik Municipality in which there are family health, youth, social counselling, re-search and study centres, fitness rooms, multipurpose halls, libraries, İSMEK (Free Courses for the Public), crèche, fitness and multipurpose halls and cafeterias. Some of these are:


Bahçelievler City Centre In the city centre there is a Family health centre, research and study centre, library, internet cafe, İSMEK (Free Courses for the Public), fitness, folk dance hall, thea-tre performances, film screening and multipurpose halls where conversation and discussion can be organised.

Hand Crafts Exhibition and Sales Office Current cultural centres are being renovated and becoming more modern and use-ful. A store has been built next to the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Culture and Arts Centre where handicraft works of the trainees at the municipality courses meet their buyers.

Kurtköy Public Education Centre Cultural and artistic activities, literary studies and personal development courses are organised in the multipurpose halls of the Kurtköy Public Education Centre. There is also a folk dance hall in the centre.

Atatürk Cultural CentreAtatürk Cultural Centre is built on one floor. Within the centre is 1 hall with a capac-ity of 286 seats, 1 foyer/exhibition area, 3 rooms and 2 backstage rooms. Most events in the district are organised in this centre. The Municipality, District Gover-norate, public enterprises, schools, associations, registry and individual programs take place at Atatürk Cultural Centre.

Mehmet Akif Ersoy Culture and Arts CentreThe historical building which had been used as the Municipal Building for many years has been rebuilt by preserving its architecture as a multipurpose facility. The centre was opened in 2004 by the Prime Minister as an Arts Centres. The centre is built on an area of 4000m², and has a total of 4 floors. The centre has a car park with an 85 vehicle capacity. Within the centre there are 4 classrooms, 2 backstage rooms, a meeting room for 50 people, a conference centre with 195 seats and 1 exhibition hall. Conferences, seminars, meetings, concerts and exhibitions are organised in the centre. Handicraft courses such as miniature, calligraphy and or-namentation and musical instrument courses such as violin, oud, guitar, reed flute and piano are given at the centre.

Neyzen Tevfik Arts HomeThe Neyzen Tevfik Arts Home consists of two floors (basement and first floor). There is an oven chamber in the centre and one hall. Handicraft courses such as miniature, calligraphy and ornamentation and musical instrument courses such as violin, oud, guitar, reed flute and piano are given at the centre.

Yunus Emre Culture and Arts CentreYunus Emre Culture and Arts Centre is the biggest culture and arts centre in the district. It is built on an area of 7000m². The building is 4038m², and has a car park with a capacity for 60 vehicles. It has a hall with 500 people capacity and a restaurant for 350 people. Pendik Municipality organises cultural and arts events in the centre every month. Weddings are also organised in the centre.


Güzelyalı Cultural CentreGüzelyalı Cultural Centre opened in 2010, and has an area of 120m². The centre has 3040 members. There are 2 computers and 4948 books in the centre. There are 12 working desks and 48 chairs. There are courses and training seminars given at the centre where you can also become a member of the library to use the books, use the photocopier and printer free of charge and use the internet. There is a conference and seminar room in the centre. Writing and poetry workshops are also organised at the centre. There is a family health centre, youth centre, Mukhtar (neighbourhood governor) and multipurpose halls in the centre.

Hamid Aytaç Cultural Centre The Hamid Aytaç City Centre construction is completed in the Dumlupınar neigh-bourhood. There are family health, youth and research and study centres as well as a library, İSMEK (Free Courses for the Public), crèche, cafeteria, fitness and multi-purpose halls in the building which has a total area of 2 thousand 585m².

Sport Facilities:

There are many new sports facilities built and being built by Pendik Municipality.


Çamlık Sports Complex and Gedik University Sports Sciences Faculty The Çamlık Sports Complex is complete. There will be a cinder track, mini football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, tennis court, indoor sports hall, fitness hall, walking paths, picnic areas and children play groups in the sports sciences faculty that is going to be built next to the sports complex.

Kurtköy Indoor Swimming Pool The construction of the Olympic swimming pool built on a 6 thousand 800m² area with a 2 thousand 500 person capacity has been completed. There is also a fitness hall, Astroturf, a sauna and a cafeteria in the facility.

Fevzi Çakmak City Centre There are family health, youth, social counselling, research and study centres, fitness rooms, multipurpose halls, libraries, İSMEK (Free Courses for the Public), crèche and a cafeteria in the centre.

Yeşilbağlar Sports Complex There is a basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, fitness and multi-purpose halls and a youth centre in the sports complex.

Sülüntepe Sports Complex There is an indoor swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, fitness and multi-purpose halls, a research and development and a youth centre in the sports complex.

Dolayoba Sports Complex There are going to be 2 open fields, basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, fitness, multi-purpose halls, youth centres and a car park in the sports complex.

District Courts: Batı Neighbourhood Coast Training Courtand Dolayoba Training Court The municipality continues to make football courts in compliance with the FIFA standards for our amateur clubs for events and training.

Jogging Track in Doğu Neighbourhood A modern jogging track with an area of 5 thousand 500 m² and 400 metres long has been opened. Sports lovers can easily do sports at any time of the day thanks to the lighting made on the track surface.


Barış Manço Indoor Sports Hall There is an administrative building, cafeteria, youth centre, research and study centre and children play areas in the Barış Manço Indoor Sports Complex.

Yenişehir Picnic Area The construction of a stand, brides’ room and a stage on a multipurpose field on 13 hectares of picnic area has been complete. A prayer room and a fountain have also been built. When the project is complete it is going to have a wide stage as well as jogging tracks. With the new arrangements the picnic area is going to host country weddings. There is also a cycling track in the area.

BOTAŞ Park is growing The park starts from Kaynarca Train Station and continues to BOTAŞ Gas Plants and has brought a new recreation and sports fields to Fevzi Çakmak, Esenler, Güllübağkar, and Kavakpınar Neighbourhoods. BOTAŞ Park is one of Istanbul’s longest parks.

Güzelyalı Social Facilities The coast which was closed to citizens of Pendik for years has been re-opened with the newly built facilities to serve the residents of Pendik. There is a tea garden, cafeteria, a wedding garden, car park, and seating and walking areas in the Güzelyalı Social Facilities.

Kurnaköy Mansion The mansion designed in accordance with traditional architecture, serves the village residents with its fountain worthy of its name, neighbourhood unit, health centre, guesthouse, shop, hairdresser and coffee house.

Tavşantepe Flyover Junction The complex structures of the by-streets in Doğu Neighbourhood which has a length of 4km and connects to the E-5 through Tavşantepe D-100 (E5) Flyover Junction and the Access Roads as one way towards the north and south directions have been disciplined.

Underground waste containers:Underground waste containers are used in Pendik. The underground containers which have no visual pollution are odour-free and do not obstruct traffic. The un-derground waste containers reduce environmental pollution and will be set up in all the neighbourhoods in Pendik. The latest technology is always followed in Pendik for a clean environment and a high quality of life.


Social Responsibilities

Gülenyüz Houses (Happy Family Houses):

Gülenyüz which is going to serve orphan children and their mothers is going to be one of the Municipality’s promi-nent social works. The first phase of the project is inaugurated. There are 32 houses in the first building of the Gülenyüz Houses which has an area of 5 thousand 717m².

Food Bank for people in need

Pendik Municipality has a Food Bank which provides hot food and nourishment for families that are in need. Hot Food is delivered to the houses of ill, old-aged, disabled and lonely people that are unable to cook at home. Pack-ages containing various food supplies are delivered to families in need. Approximately 2.000 food packages are distributed every month.


Charity Market

Donations (various furniture, clothing, medical sup-plies etc) are made by charitable citizens and deliv-ered to those in need by our teams. All new and sec-ond hand clothing items and all sorts of housing items that are in useable condition are accepted by the charity market and given to those that are in need. Medical supplies (Battery-Powered and Manual Wheelchairs, Crutches, Disposable Underpants, Sick-beds etc.) are provided to those that own a Green Card and those with disabilities on the presence of a Health Report. Stationary help is provided to primary and secondary school students in need in Pendik. Also a suitcase full of various gifts such as a Digital Dictionary, Flash Disk, Calculator, Mug etc. is given to students that are about to start university.

Co-ordination Centre for the Disabled

Information, referral and counselling services are provided about the legal rights of the disabled and their families at the co-ordination centre. Psychological support is given to overcome the difficulties faced in the daily lives of the disabled individuals and their families. Work is carried out for the Social Rehabilitation of the disabled (youth programs, literacy courses, and handicraft). The printing of the Istanbul Card (Travel Card) is done at the centre. Trips and activities are organised on special days such as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Disability Week etc.

Women’s Shelter Home

The urgent needs such as shelter, security, nutrition etc. of women and children that have been subjected to do-mestic violence, that are victims of honour and women and children whose housing needs aren’t met as a result of divorce are met by the Women’s Shelter Home. Psychological support, Judicial support, Referral to vocational training courses, Free time activities (handicraft training etc), Activities related to employment (assistance for finding work etc), Information and referral to other organisations (SHÇEK, SYDV, İŞ KUR etc.) and assistance for the women in finding accommodation etc. after they leave the organisation is provided by the Women’s Shelter Home.

Volunteer Centre

Disadvantaged citizens in the neighbourhoods that are unable to come to the Social Services Department are iden-tified and are enabled to benefit from the opportunities offered by the municipality and other organisations. Activities are carried out to provide support to meet the needs of the citizens that are homeless, have various health problems and are incapable of solving their problems. (Hospital, nursing home procedures, transportation procedures, follow up of documents related to disability and care pensions.)


Employment Desk

Services provided by the employment desk are:- Helping disadvantaged citizens that are directed to the employment desk in finding employment.- Citizens are registered on the İş-Kur (Turkish employment agency) database. - Letter of Invitation is given to citizens for return to work.- Applications are made for unemployment pay.- Registration for İş-Kur courses. - Follow-up of jobs suitable for citizens and informing citizens when suitable jobs are found. - Meeting with Employers and referring citizens.- Reporting

Natural Habitat Refuge

Animals are going to be protected and animals and animal lovers are going to be able to meet in a safe environment thanks to this natural habitat refuge built on forestland. There are surgery rooms within the refuge.

Dolayoba Underpass The Dolayoba Underpass is widening and becoming a one way road in the southern direction; also vehicles that want to reach the Dumlupınar area are going to use the new flyover junction in front of the Tavşantepe Cemetery.

Velibaba Residence The Velibaba Residence construction works have started on a 7.106m² area of land. The residence consists of 126 2+1 roomed houses in 3 blocks. There are also commercial areas in the residence area.


The World’s Greatest Transport Project: Marmaray

One of the 3 main transfer stations of Marmaray on the Anatolian side is going to be in Pendik. The infrastructure and superstructure arrangement of the Marmaray High-Speed Rail Project, which is going to pass from Pendik Centre, has been processed on the development plans. The projects for the functional flyover’s and underpass’s that will transport the population movement which will increase with the inauguration of Marmaray in a rapid way to the north and south of the rail-way.The Marmaray Triplication Project will come to life with the projects for the vehicle and pedestrian flyover and underpass that is completed in Pendik.

Ongoing Projects World Technology Giants are in Pendik: Techno Park – construction continuesThe world’s technology giants are coming together in Pendik as part of the Techno Park Istanbul Project which is developed by the Undersecretary for Defence In-dustries and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. The construction works of the Research and Development Centre and Incubation Centre being built in the first five blocks on an area of 52,000m² is planned to be completed by the end of 2012. Nowadays, five blocks are used by firms.The first stage of the campus will be built on an area of 2.5 million m². The Archi-tectural Project Competition preparations for the other Research and Development Buildings, Incubation Centre and Research Laboratories that are going to be located in the first stage are ongoing. Over a thousand high-tech firms will be located in the area once the Techno Park Istanbul Project is complete, and there will be employment opportunities for 30.000 people.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport and HABOM – construction continuesThe passenger carrying capacity will double at Sabiha Gökçen Airport with the 2nd Airfield and 2nd Ramp that will be built. New employment areas are being created. The construction works of the airfield is aimed to be completed by 2015. Also, an Aircraft Maintenance and Repair Centre (HABOM) are being set up on Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s land. The HABOM which has an area of 372 thousand m² aims to provide employment for 3.5000 people. Aircraft repair and maintenance is going to be car-ried out at the centre which is of importance in terms of aviation.

A new look to Pendik’s entrance – construction continuesPendik Municipality is organising the vehicle and pedestrian traffic with the prestige road works continuing on Bahçelievler Adnan Menderes Boulevard. Pocket car parks are being made in both directions. The construction of an ornamental pool and the lighting renewals are continuing.

Esenyalı Köprülü Junction – construction continuesCumhuriyet Road and Esenyalı, Güzelyalı, Fatih, Orhangazi, and Ahmet Yesevi neighbourhoods are being connected to E-5 with the Esenyalı E-5 Flyover Junction works.

Sports is beautiful in open air – construction continuesThe municipality aims to raise healthy generations by spreading sports culture. Citizens of Pendik are enjoying doing sports in open air in sports areas such as parks, jogging tracks and football courts that have been opened by Pendik Munici-pality. The municipality is going to open 100 more sports areas.

Esenler Sports Complex In the complex that is going to be built next to the Kaynarca Sports Facilities there is going to be an indoor swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, handball, fitness halls, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, training halls, youth centre, research and study centre, crèche and conference halls.


Modern building for a modern city – at project stageThe New Pendik Municipality Service Building is going to be built in Fevzi Çakmak Neighbourhood in order to provide the best service for the residents of Pendik. There is going to be a residence, hotel, convention centre, commercial units, cafeterias and indoor and outdoor car parks next to the modern service building.

Güzelyalı Shipping Exhibition Area – at project stageGüzelyalı Shipping Exhibition Area will be a centre for sea sports alongside boat show organisations. There will be housing, sports and recreation fields in the area where the sectors commercial units will be located.

A square befitting the coast – at project stage A continuous pedestrian path from the marina to the market area...The square Pendik is in need of has been designed on an area of 78 thousand m² on the coast. The social facilities that are going to be in the square will make the coast more modern and useful. The square will meet the needs of everyone young and old.

Public buildings under one roof – at project stageAccess to services are being eased by bringing all public buildings together. A district governorate, district directorate of national education, provincial directorate of agricul-ture, civil registry, revenue department, land registry and cadastre offices, tuberculo-sis dispensaries, family health centre, public health centre, provincial social services rehabilitation centre, foundation of social solidarity, cafeteria and crèche will come together within the modern structure.

Harmandare Houses – at project stage80 houses will be built to overcome the shanty house problem.

TCDD (Turkish Railway) Terminal Transfer Station – at project stageThe TCDD (Railway) terminal which will be one of the three transfer stations on the Anatolian side will contain a shopping centre, business centre, a hotel and a car park with a capacity for 2.107 vehicles. A three storey car park is being built underground. Pendik’s car park needs are being met significantly. As well as this, Pendik is gaining prestigious structures, station buildings and a square.

Tersane Junction Pedestrian Flyover – at project stageThe Tersane Junction will enable the safe and prompt transport of pedestrians with the flyover and underpass’s that will be built.


Research and Implementation centre for Classical ArtsHand craft works designed according to traditional culture will be produced and sold at the centre. There will be art workshops, exhibition areas, a shop, multi-purpose halls, a restaurant and a car park in the centre. Pendik will gain a new arts centre.

Kardelen Park – at project stageKardelen Park Social Facility will give service with its cafeteria, restaurant, wed-ding hall and indoor-outdoor car parks.

Bosna Park – at project stageBosna Park will become a centre of attraction with its social facilities, recrea-tional and play areas and neighbourhood unit.

New University Investments – at project stage

• Ahmet Yesevi Neighbourhood: The prestige of the neighbourhood is increasing with the Istanbul Commerce Univer-sity (İstanbul Ticaret Üniversitesi) campus that is going to be established.

• Sapanbağları Neighbourhood: Yildiz Technical University Ship building and Marine Faculty is being established in Sapanbağları neighbourhood. Another big step has been taken for the development of the marine sector with re-search and development works. The faculty has the advantage of being located close to Pendik Marina, Pendik Dock, UN Ro-Ro Port, the Proteksan and World Yacht Docks, Tuzla which has Turkey’s heavy shipping industry and docks and Yalova.

• Güllübağlar Neighbourhood: Gedik University’s Central Campus is going to be established in Güllübağlar neighbour-hood. Located in the campus is the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Foreign Languages High School, Central Library, Rectorship, Auditorium with a ca-pacity for 1.500 people, Administrative Units, Senate and Meeting Hall, 600m² Student Facilities (Refectory and Social Facility), Gedik Technology Museum and Cultural Centre, Laboratory 1-2 and Teaching Staff Social Facilities.

Projects Carried Out With EU, National and International FundsPendik Municipality has carried out many successful projects with EU, National and International funds as well as its own funds with the aim of providing better services and raising the life standards of its citizens and promoting Pendik in the European platform. The public participation shown to the education and training given as part of the projects have shown that Pendik Municipality is on the right path. One National Agency that provides funds is the Istanbul Development Agency. The Istanbul Development Agency is a Government Agency with objectives which can be listed as; improvement of the cooperation among public sector, private sector and NGOs, ensuring effective usage of resources, stimulating the local potential, fostering the regional development and ensuring its sustainability, and decreasing the inter-regional development disparities.

Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP) (07.09.2007)The Project coordinated by the Istanbul Provincial Administration and funded by the World Bank in which Pendik Mu-nicipality took part in as the beneficiary intends to increase the corporate and technical capacities with the intention

of supporting the implementations of the Istanbul Metropolitan Munici-pality and two pilot municipalities (Pendik and Bağcılar) construction plans and licence durations in a more efficient way. The prevention of data loss in emergency cases was enabled by carrying out procedures in a digital context through the document management system, digital signature and the storage and keeping of the transmitted data. Also a call centre was set up to enable the citizens to benefit from the munici-pality services 24/7. Pendik Municipality became the first municipality

in Turkey with the 270001 certificate as part of the ISO 27001 Application by providing assurance of the Information Security Management System. Total Budget: 1.725,000 €


Pendik Interactive Municipality Applications Portal (01.07.2011 – 31.06.2012): As part of the project nine e-municipality applications were developed and the municipality’s archives were transferred onto a digital platform; 24 kiosks were assigned to various places in the district and an e-management portal was developed with the intention of easing the citizens’ access to municipal services. The Pendik Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (PESİAD) and the Pendik District National Education Directorate contributed in the project. The Project was carried out as part of the Istanbul development Agencies ‘Information-Oriented Economic Devel-opment 2010 Financial Support Program Intended for Non-Profit Organisations. The total budget of the project was 1.211.658,00 TL.

Development of the Pendik e-Development Platform and Mobile Municipal Applications (01.12.2012 – 15.12.2013):Municipal procedures have been brought to Pendik’s citizens’ doors with mobile vehicles that have allocated by Pendik Municipality. Everyone is able to easily carry out their municipal procedures through the 2 mobile vehicles that have been travelling the neighbourhoods. Citizens are able to carry out their procedures through free access to the internet and the e-municipality applications as part of the ‘Development of the Pendik e-Development Platform and Mobile Municipal Applica-tions’ project accepted by the Istanbul Development Agency. Two vehicles have been allocated in order for this system to be applied. There are GPS, camera systems, digital screens and printers in the vehicles. This way everyone in the district with or without a computer have had access to the internet Students and businesses were able to use the internet for free as well as being able to access all municipal applications as part of the project. Wireless internet (WIFI) have been set up in areas where there are high numbers of businesses and a high population rate. This way the citizens’ have had access to these services 24/7. The budget of the project was 940.000,00 TL.

Pendik Professional Development and Guidance Centre (01.12.2012 – 01.12.2013):The project was carried out in partnership with the Pendik Industrialist and Busi-nessmen Association (PESİAD) and Pendik Directorate of National Education. The target group for the project was 300 youth between the ages of 15-24 that for various reasons can’t continue with their education or those that have gradu-ated but are unemployed. The youth was given a total of 2 thousand 400 hours of training; 1.830 hours of it technical and 98 hours of it personal development and mentoring training. At the end of all the training the youth was guided to profes-sions that have high employability rates. Also mentoring services were provided for the exams organized by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Centre). The total budget for the project was 617.834,00 TL.

Pendik Women Entrepreneur Business Incubation Centre Project (KİŞGEM):KOSGEB (Small and Medium Industry Development Organisation) is the coordina-tor, Pendik Municipality the beneficiary and PENTAŞ is the operating body of the project. The Women Entrepreneur Business Incubation Centre was set up in order to ease the establishment of businesses for small entrepreneurs and to increase the survival and growth rates of businesses. Businesses that continue their presence in KİŞGEM earn the right to use an interest free loan up to 70,000TL and a grant up to 30,000TL provided by KOSGEB to entrepreneurs. The total budget of the Project funded by the European Union is 3.5 Million €.


Connect With ICT (01.12.2011 – 30.11.203):The partners of the project are Southern Cyprus, Spain, Poland, Bulgaria and France. In the project that is coordinated by Turkey (Pendik Municipality) as part of the European Union Leonardo da Vinci Partnership Projects, information communication training is provid-ed for the elderly and disabled in order for them to be more interac-tive in social life by using informa-tion technologies. At least twelve mobility activities will be carried out as part of the project. The total budget of the project is 18.000€.

Women Integration in Business Development Project (WIN-BUS) (01.11.2010 – 31.08.2012):The partners of the project are Italy, United Kingdom/England, and Slovakia. WIN-BUS which is the only municipality project amongst the 122 projects in the European Union Lifelong Learning Pro-gramme;2010 Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation, aims to increase women entrepreneurship in Pendik by taking advantage of the European partners implemen-tations and experience of women entrepreneurship and also with the contribution of the business mar-ket. The total budget of the project is 247.408,00 €.

CoPro Integration (01.10.2011 – 31.03.2013):“CoPro Integration” which is a European Union Lifelong Learn-ing Program; 2011 Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project, intends to enable the social and vocational integration of young workers by working together with specialist mentors and vocation teachers to obtain study modules , social networks and documents. The project partners are Germany, Belgium, France, Italy and Slove-nia. The total budget of the project is 256.385,30 €.

Pendik Runs to Future (17.12.2010 – 16.01.2012):The aim of the project, which was carried out as part of the Strengthening Pre-School Education Grant Scheme, is the dissemination of pre-school education in disadvantaged areas, strengthening of the existing pre-school education sys-tems and increasing the number of children benefiting from pre-school educa-tion. Two nurseries were formed at the Fuat Köprülü Primary School located in the Kavakpınar Neighbourhood and Child Care and Development training was given to the staff at the Pendik Municipality Children’s Clubs as part of the project. The project partners were Fuat Köprülü Primary School and Pendik Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (PESİAD). The total budget of the project was 85.497, 75 €.

Pendik Library Volunteers Project (01.10.2011 – 31.05.2012):The aim of the project that was carried out as part of the European Union Youth in Action Program Action 1.2 Youth Entrepreneurs was for youth that benefit from the Youth centres and libraries that operate in Pendik to come together around con-cepts such as solidarity, collaboration, cooperation and volunteerism. The aware-ness of the youth was increased through Voluntary training seminars, personal development training, cultural visits and a book collection campaign that was carried out as part of the project. The total budget of the project was 5.950,00 €.


Kitchen Ando (16 – 25 June 2011):The project that the non-governmental organisation MOSAICO in Napoli/Italy was the coordinator of was carried out as part of the European Union Youth in Action 1.1 Youth Change aimed for the interaction of youth from different cultures aged 18-25 through lunch/dinner activities and activities such as city games, food quizzes and cultural nights. Also partnerships were formed and reinforced for future projects. The project partners were Romania, Portugal and Italy.

Meeting of the Community Service Volunteers (19 – 24 April 2010):The project was carried out by the Pendik City Council Youth Assembly as part of the Centre for European Union Education and Youth Programs (Turkey National Agency) supported by the Youth in Action Program Action 3.1 Cooperation with Neighbouring Countries of the European Union. The aim of the project was for youth with restricted opportunities in various countries that are faced with social, economic, educational or geographic obstacles to participate in voluntary work in another country and to strengthen the youth’s active citizenship and reinforce the solidarity and mutual understanding between them. The project partners were Germany, Bulgaria, Algeria, Georgia and Kosovo. The total budget of the project was 16.355,00 €.

Involve project (01 – 11 September 2010):In the project that was carried out with the coordination of Italy as part of the European Union Youth in Action Program Action 4.3, work was carried out to form a new partnership by visiting the NGO’s (Non-Governmental Organisations) that are active in the city of Napoli. The project partners were Romania, France, Portugal and Italy.

Library Volunteers:Pendik Municipality Library Volunteers add to their knowledge by reading books and also get the chance to do social activities through the historical and cultural visits organised.

Cultural and Social Activities:

There are many cultural and social activities carried out in Pendik.


Activities:The activities department carries out the following tasks: - Organise conferences, seminars, theatre shows, cinema, interviews and chat programs and exhibitions. - Organise cultural and artistic events on days of commemoration and celebra-tion. - Organise the 23rd of April International Children’s Festival and International Traditional Handicraft Festival. - Organise social activities on specific days and weeks.

Courses:The courses department carries out the following:- Organise hobby courses.- Organise courses in cooperation with various organisations and societies. - Organise vocational courses.- Organise traditional handicraft courses.- Enable the selling of the products made at these courses at the sales centre.- Give support to graduate trainees in organising exhibitions.
