WOOF!Dachshunds are one of the more popular breeds among teens, adults, and seniors. In this presentation I will take you into the wonderful life of Dachshunds.1

About the breed:

The dachshund is a short-legged, long-bodied dog breed belonging to the hound family. The standard size dachshund was bred to scent, chase, and flush out badgers in small holes.The miniature size dachshund was bred to hunt smaller prey such as rabbits, they have also been bred to hunt prairie dogs.

Origin of the name:

The name dachshund is German, meaning badger dog.Dachs meaning badgerHund meaning dog

Because of their long, narrow build, they are often named sausage dog or wiener dog

Lifespan: Anywhere from 12-18 years old

Weight: 7.3 15 kg (Standard Size), 3.6 5 kg (Miniature Size)

Wire Hair: has a unique wire texture to it, difficult to manage. You need to brush hair regularly, to prevent tangles, knots. Must be bathed at least 3-4 times a week.

Long Hair: sometimes can be difficult to manage. You need to brush hair regularly, to prevent tangles, knots, and to maintain luscious shine. Must be bathed at least 3-4 times a week.

Short Hair: very smooth and soft, easiest of all the hair styles to manage. Always will maintain luscious shine, and doesnt have to be brushed or bathed that often maybe 1-2 times a week.

Eye Color: The dachshunds eye colors vary between different types. Some dachshunds will have the normal color brown or hazel, some can have green eyes, while others can have a mixture of brown and blue (as shown in the picture)

Colors: Dachshunds come in all sorts of colors, they can be all brown, tan, black; or they can have colors of each. Dapple coloring is a mixture of any color like black, with grey spots, tan on the feet, face, and belly (like my dog Ella as shown in slide 2). Double Dapple can also be a mixture of colors, but they also have a more dominant color white in them.

Benefits:There coat will become softer, and luscious. Dachshunds are prone to dry skin, and this definitely helps out. It has a unique formula that is especially good for their spine, since they are prone to back issues.

Dachshunds are prone to allergies to certain foods. Be careful when changing the food for your dog, be sure to add a bit of the new food to the old food and get them used to it. Loves:From personal experience I know that dachshunds love long walks, playing fetch, long naps, burrowing under a nice warm, soft blanket, cuddling, and most important giving lots and lots of kisses.
