In the USA Christmas lasts only for one day- it begins on 25th December and finishes this day. It’s the Christmas Day.

All period before Christmas, which begins a day after the largest and the most important celebration in America - Thanksgiving day (fourth Friday in November). It’s like the 'Christmas' before Christmas.

WHEN DO PEOPLE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

Page 5: All about christmas

In England they celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.During the weeks before Christmas, they send cards, watch nativity plays, go to carol services and buy plenty of food and drink for the festive season. They also go shopping to buy those all important Christmas presents!

They decorate their homes with Christmas trees and lights, as well as other decorations, Father Christmas, snowmen and all other symbols.

. On the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, young children leave a mince pie and milk for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph. Christmas Eve is often very exciting for many children as they know that Father Christmas is going to visit them that night.

Presents are usually opened at home early in the morning on the 25th.

Children write letters to Santa Claus, telling him what presents they would like to receive for Christmas.

In New York there is a small town called the North Pole, which was designed for Santa Claus and which has a post office, a church and a blacksmith shop to repair the shoes of the reindeer.

The Bible says that Mary had trouble finding shelter on the night Jesus was born. So

on Christmas Eve, some people light candles in the window. The candles

symbolize a welcome to cold and tired travelers.
