Pass it on!Durham practitioners sharing good practice and inspiration with other Durham practitioners. A chat with Alison, Early Years Practitioner and Manager at First Steps Nursery.

Something that makes me proud as a practitioner...Seeing children be excited and absorbed in all they do and watching them grow as independent individuals. Having those special bonds with both children and their carers. I am also super proud of my team! I couldn’t do it without them!

One tip I would like to share with other practitioners...You have to be a special person to work with children. Enjoy every little moment. Every day is a challenge but you could make such a difference.

A course I would recommend…Level 2 safeguarding systems and processes is always very informative and provides an opportunity to ask questions. It also keeps practitioners up to date on current issues.

Another favourite is Oh to be 2! This course went a long way in influencing how we operate our two year old room and how we reflect on the environment as a whole. We love the quote “sometimes we need to speak to a 2 year old to understand life again.”

Most special childhood memory....Some of my strongest early memories are packing a picnic and heading to the beach, whether it was sunny or not! Building castles, burying my Dad (leaving his head out of course), plodging in the icy sea and of course... ice-cream!

A special thanks to Alison and First Steps Nursery for taking part!
