As a rising star on the national scene, Alisha Thomas

Morgan is an engaging political voice with a lot to say!

Alisha made history in 2002 as the first African American

elected to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives

from Cobb County. First elected at age 23, she is now serv-

ing her fourth term. Alisha is author of No Apologies: Power-

ful Lessons in Life & Politics, her debut book based upon her

unapologetic philosophy to speak truth to power and the les-

sons she‟s learned through her political journey.

Alisha is a sought after speaker and trainer whose story inspires audiences

of all ages. Alisha is an authority on several topics including women‟s em-

powerment, civic leadership and engagement, education, and more. Her

powerful message of overcoming obstacles and achieving the impossible has

reached a wide range of audiences. Alisha has received numerous awards

including the "Most Honorable Elected Official” award and the “Unsung

Heroine” award. Ebony magazine listed her as one of the nation‟s leaders

under 30 in 2009. Essence magazine called her “One of Fifteen Women of the

New Power Generation.” Alisha has also been featured in Marie Claire

A graduate of Spelman College, Alisha earned a B.A. in Sociology and

Drama. She is married to David L. Morgan and they have a daughter,

Lailah, and son, Rashaan.

Alisha Thomas Morgan made history at age 23, by becoming the first

African-American to represent the Cobb County serve in the Georgia

House of Representatives (District 39). Now 33, she is serving in her

fifth term and remains one of the youngest and most vocal female mem-

bers of the entire Georgia General Assembly. An author, powerful politi-

cal voice, inspirational speaker and empowering trainer, Morgan is

poised to be one of the most influential women of the 21st century.

In the past year, Morgan released her first book, No Apologies:

Powerful Lessons in Life & Politics. Based upon her personal philosophy

and real-life journey, this novel is an unapologetic narrative that speaks

truth to power and offers lessons learned throughout Morgan’s political

passage. Since the book‟s debut, Morgan continues to gain local and

national acclaim.

She has been featured in national publications and media outlets including Ebony Magazine‟s

“Nation’s 30 Leaders who are under 30”, AOL Black Voices‟ “America’s Young Civil Rights Heroes” list,

and Essence Magazine‟s fifteen women of the “New Power Generation.” Other media clips include a fea-

ture article in Marie Claire magazine called “I Made it By 30 and You Can Too!” and quotations in the

New York Times, The Washington Post, and on CSPAN and BET.

Morgan has also gained numerous awards for her service, training and political advocacy. These

awards include the, “Joe Mack Wilson „People‟s Champion Award‟” from the Cobb Democratic Party,

the “Community Advocate Award” by the Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals, the “Excellence

in Service” Award by the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund (MALDEF), the

“Unsung Heroine” Award by the Anti-Defamation League, and the “Leadership Change Maker Award”

by the National Action Network. As a statewide leader in education reform, Morgan has gained notori-

ety through awards such as the “Champion for Choice” award from the American Federation for Chil-

dren, the “Impact Award” from the Georgia Charter School Association, and the “Putting Kids First”

award from the Ohio Coalition.

Morgan is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree

in both Sociology and Drama. She resides in Austell, GA with husband David, a member of the Cobb

County School Board, and daughter Lailah. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority In-

corporated, and serves on several boards in the metro Atlanta area including the Cobb County CASA

Advisory Board, the Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Human Rights and the Georgia Coalition for the

People‟s Agenda.
