Outcomes-based education
• is a methodology of teaching in which the desired outcomes of the learning experience are clearly stated to enable all learners to achieve these outcomes
• a learner is expected to demonstrate the application of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes learnt in the classroom
![Page 3: Aligning the South African National Curriculum Electrical Technology Jenny Rault-Smith](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081513/568150ba550346895dbed5c1/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)

What is a Learning Outcome?
• A learning outcome is a statement of an intended result of learning and teaching
• It describes skills, knowledge, values and attitudes that learners should acquire
• There are 4 learning outcomes for Electrical Technology that learners acquire progressively over 3 years - Grades 10, 11 & 12
![Page 5: Aligning the South African National Curriculum Electrical Technology Jenny Rault-Smith](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081513/568150ba550346895dbed5c1/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
What is an Assessment Standard?
• Assessment standards are criteria that collectively describe what a learner should know and be able to demonstrate at each grade
• They embody the skills, knowledge, values & attitudes required to achieve the learning outcomes
![Page 6: Aligning the South African National Curriculum Electrical Technology Jenny Rault-Smith](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081513/568150ba550346895dbed5c1/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The purpose & scope of Electrical Technology
• Exposure to relevant skills, knowledge, values & attitudes
• Preparation for career pathways and additional education & training opportunities
• Electrical Technology affords learners the opportunity
to carry out practical projects, experiments
and real-life tasks using a variety of
of processes and skillsRefer pages 9 & 10 in the Electrical Technology
curriculum statement

Aligning the lesson on Electric Motors with the
SA learning outcomes & assessment standards
• Technology, society & the environment:– the learner is able to demonstrate an awareness and understanding
of the interrelationship between technology, society & the environment
– Gr 10: describe the interrelationship between technology, society & the environment
– Gr 11: discuss and evaluate the interrelationship between technology, society & the environment
– Gr 12 predict the impact of future developments in technology on society

Aligning the lesson on Electric Motors with the
SA learning outcomes & assessment standards
• Technological process– The learner is able to understand and apply the technological
process• identify, investigate, define and analyse problems in a given real-life
situation
assessment standards will be dependent on the particular activity
