OPTIMAL FUEL QUALITY AT ALL TIMES November 2009

Captain George’s Avoids Freezer Burn Operating a restaurant is a challenging task, and placing one right in the path of Mid-Atlantic Storms is even more challenging. So when Captain George’s Seafood decided to open a new seafood buffet & restaurant in Kill Devil Hills on the outer banks of North Carolina, potential property and product loss were both at the front of their mind.

At any given time the restaurant keeps several thousands of dollars worth of seafood in the freezer. If there ever were a power failure, it would only be a matter of hours before the temperature reached the point at which the health department would require to scrap it all. So, to prevent any expensive disasters during a black-out or brown-out, Captain George’s Restaurant decided to install a 350 Kilo Watt MTU emergency generator from Tim Walters at Engines1 in Portsmouth, Virginia to be able to operate the restaurant and bar at 100% capacity during a bad storm when city power is unreliable at best.

Realizing that fuel, contrary to wine, does not get better with time, Captain George’s Restaurant immediately understood that they also needed to preserve the integrity of their 1500 gallons of stored diesel fuel. Understanding the risk and the critical nature of the facility, the installation of an Algae-X STS Automated Fuel Filtration System guarantees the reliability of the restaurant’s emergency power supply.

Any time you are in town, storm or no storm, you can now always count on Capt. George’s Restaurant to prepare you a feast when you visit one of the best seafood buffets in the country.

Sneak Peek From Algae-X Labs As an exclusive for our newsletter subscribers we are going to give you a sneak peek in the Algae-X Engineering and Marketing Labs. It’s good to know what’s coming and to be prepared. Algae-X continues to expand its line of fuel filtration equipment with a new series of Pre-Filter systems.

The new Pre-Filter systems efficiently remove sludge and sediments that naturally accumulate in large diesel storage tanks using easy to replace disposable nylon filter bags. The bags ranging from 25-1500 micron are much less costly than traditional filter elements. The pre-filter systems effectively remove heavy particulate and sludge for easy disposal. Most common are the 75-800 micron bags.

Watect 550 Water-In-Fuel Sensor

Alarm Module

Watect 550 Water-In-Fuel Sensor Alarm ModuleAlgae-X has released an innovative Water Sensor Alarm Module the “Watect 550”. It is based on next-generation programmable micro-controller technology. This unique and proprietary measuring method has been developed to eliminate electrolytic probe corrosion. The Watect 550 works with many common water probes and sensors to detect water in diesel and other fuels. It is designed with a flexible 12/24V DC power input and is protected against reverse polarity, over-voltage, and over-current while providing a safe recovery from power interruptions. In comparison to traditional devices, Watect 550 has a versatile potential free output signal, safe sensing circuit, power & alarm status LEDs, absolutely zero water probe corrosion and is fully RoHS compliant. Its compact flanged housing is hermetically sealed for use in harsh environments, and is compatible with most industry standard filters, water separators and applications where reliable water in fuel detection is important. New High Capacity Mobile Tank Cleaning System, (MTC HC-50)Algae-X International (AXI) has released another new and unique line of High Capacity Modular, Fully Automated Mobile Tank Cleaning & Fuel Restoration Systems. MTC-HC50systems excel in combining high capacity filtration, fuel conditioning and water separa-tion with compact modular design and low operating costs.

Given our current cost of fuel, cleaning tanks while restor-ing fuel to its “Bright & Clear” pristine condition is much more cost effective than traditional methods of replacing fuel and manually cleaning tanks. The Algae-X tank clean-ing approach has proven to create an economically attrac-tive, NEW INCOME STREAM for major engine & generator distributors, tank service and cleaning companies, fuel resellers and many others.

MTC-HC50 systems have an adjustable Flow Rate of 25–100 gallons per minute, while easily fitting in a pick-up truck or utility trailer. The compact design and high capacity fuel processing capabilities make these systems unique in the industry. They remove water and sludge, and are designed to process and transfer fuels containing solids of up to ¼ inch. The HC50 is available with various options such as flow meters, sample ports, automation and remote pendant ON/OFF control.

New Algae-X Fuel Service Center:

Shining Waters Marina, Nova Scotia Lee Myrhaugen, the proud owner of a beautiful “Marine Trader” found himself in the engine room changing one fuel filter after another. When in just one hour of runtime, he had used his entire filter supply, Lee decided to take his boat to Shining Waters Marina in Upper Tantallon to see what could be done. At the marina, they opened the inspection port in the fuel tank and discovered large amounts of sediment and sludge.

Manually scooping it out and cleaning the tanks was not going to work, since as in most boats, the tanks have baffles making it impossible to manually clean all compartments thoroughly. The short boating season in Nova Scotia looked like a lost cause when it seemed that the only solution was to pull the engine to get access and then replace both 150 gallon tanks. Lee’s vacation seemed over and instead he was confronted with an unexpected, costly operation.

Feeling sorry for their customer, the owners of the marina, John & Jenn Barnhill began searching for other possibilities and found Algae-X. After a short phone call, John immediately ordered the “prescription” for Lee’s problem, a TK-180XT mobile tank cleaning system and some AFC-705 Fuel Catalyst.

As usual, the TK-180XT did a great job. It removed sediment & water from the tank and restored Lee’s fuel to its former clear & bright pristine condition without having to pull the engine and replace the tanks. To prevent this from ever happening again, John also installed an Algae-X Fuel Conditioner between the tank and the engine.

Lee was of course extremely happy and appreciative that John & Jenn had not only saved his boating season, but also a lot of money and aggravation. The results of Algae-X’s unique approach to fuel conditioning did not go unnoticed. The good news spread around the marina and right away another five boat owners scheduled to have John clean their tanks.

Shining Waters in Nova Scotia is now a fully equipped Algae-X fuel conditioning & tank cleaning service center. John & Jenn will be happy to help you prevent and eliminate any fuel related headaches you might experience.
