Learning
Here we will learn about the Water Cycle with pictures and text. Please read every
slide, you will be tested on what you learn!
The Sun's heat provides energy to evaporate water from the Earth's surface
90% of the evaporated water comes from lakes rivers and streams
In this process water changes from a liquid to a gas.
The water vapor rises into the Earth's
atmosphere where it cools and condenses into liquid droplets.
Which then form together, into
clouds, that travel across land before the water droplets fall as precipitation
For precipitation to happen, first tiny water droplets must condense on even tinier dust, salt, or smoke particles, which act as a nucleus.
Precipitation may fall as snow, or melt and fall as rain
Some of the precipitation soaks into the ground. Some of the underground water is trapped between rock or clay layers; this is
called groundwater
But most of the water flows downhill as runoff
(above ground or underground),
eventually returning to the seas as slightly
salty water
Once the water has been returned to the oceans, rivers, and streams, the
water cycle starts all over again!
Now let's test our knowledge!
On each slide there is one questions. Answer each question by clicking on the answer that you
think is correct based off of your learning from this presentation as well as the other readings from class.
If you get the answer correct the button will take you to the next question after showing you a correct banner!
If you get the question wrong, the button will take you to a incorrect page that gives you links to places that you can find the correct answer. When you think you have found it, click the go back button and answer the question correctly.
Use your learning wisely! Good luck!
Questions #1During which stage of the water
cycle does the sun's energy matter most?
During the EvaporationPhase
During the PrecipitationPhase
During the Runoff PhaseDuring the GroundwaterPhase
CORRECT!!! Good Job!
Questions #2 How does water vapor turn into
Rain?Water vapor turns into rainwhen rainbows are present
Water vapor turns into rainwhen the droplets get heavyby condensing around dirtand other particles.
Water vapor turns into rain when the droplets ofwater bump into each other over and over andeventually fall from the cloud
CORRECT!!!Good Job!
Question #3Where does 90% of the evaporated water in our atmosphere come from?
It comes from groundwater It comes from the runoff, over land
It comes from the lakes, rivers, and streams
It comes from the wateralready present in theatmosphere
CORRECT!!!Good Job!
Question #4During what phase does water
turn from a liquid to a gas?
During the PrecipitationPhase
During the EvaporationPhase
During all PhasesDuring the Runoff Phase
CORRECT!!!Good Job!
Question #5What are clouds made of?
They are made of watervapor and droplets
They are made of fluffymaterial that holds rain andsnow
They are made of bits ofsnow that has clumpedtogether in the upperatmosphere
They are made ofcrystallized air particles
CORRECT!!!Good Job!
