8 c4 qf6? I want to be able to take back with my e-pawn if he plays cd. (8 … g6! was the correct way to do this, with a reasonable game, a Stonewall

without a bad bishop. What I learned from this game: The queen needs to stay available to protect the queenside light squares. 9 qb3 qb6 (9 … qc7?! 10 ng5 ke7 11 ndf3 (11 e4!? h6 12 nxe6) 11 … h6 12 nh4) 10 qa4 ngf6)

9 qb3! Immediately punishing me. It turns out that Charles is an expert in these Stonewall positions, while I'm a learner, having just taken up the Triangle system. He gives me a lesson.

9 … O-O-O? Consistent, and suicidal. Now Chuck just rolls me. The opposite side castled position favors white, since (underappreciated by me) white's control of e5 snuffs out any black counter-attack on the kingside.
