Farm worker availability will also dictate overall supplies. Stay tuned. ASPARAGUS - Some local growers were able to get some product harvested last week, but it is priced very high. Growers were pushed back by about a week after the freeze and snow last Monday. It still looks like we will have steady supplies of local asparagus by the week of May 25th, as warmer weather is in the forecast. Growers’ are still reporting that they only have about 50-60% of the foreign workers they need. Stay tuned. HOTHOUSE TOMATO - Ontario red vine and 15lb beefsteak tomatoes continue with good supply. Gourmet medley, yellow grape and Campari are also available from Ontario farms with good supplies. Pricing is high as imports are very short. There will be consistent supplies for next week. PEPPERS- Red, yellow and orange hothouse bell peppers continue to come into better volume. Crown picks are still skewing pack sizes to XXL, however there are other sizes available as well. Pricing has stabilized as demand is light and supplies are abundant. RHUBARB- Ontario greenhouse rhubarb continues. Quality is outstanding. WAX TURNIP (RUTABEGA) – Ontario rutabaga continues, with pricing steady with good supplies. CARROT/ONION - Jumbo, 10xt5 and 24x2lb carrots are all finished for the season. Heirloom carrots will continue and are in good supply. Yellow cooking onions are still available in good supplies, while red onions are finished for the season. MUSHROOMS - We could experience a shortage of mushrooms for the next six to 10 weeks, (until mid-July) as mushroom production catches up to shifts in demand brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. CABBAGE – Green, red and savoy cabbage continue with good supply. ENGLISH CUCUMBERS – Spring production has quickly ramped up. Recent demand from retail due to COVID-19 has eased and supplies far exceed demand with pricing very low. Quality remains very good. Asparagus – Supplies continue to be tight. Should start seeing better supplies going into next week. Brussels Sprouts – Expect light supplies all week. Expect a continued strong market and escalated pricing. Imported Carrots -Peeled and snack pack retail packs are still in heavy demand. Cherries: Some shippers are communicating that the cherry deal is going to shorter this year than originally thought. Harvest volumes are slightly trending downward with peak volumes last week. They will continue to pack as long as weather and quality allows with average availability on all sizes. California Oranges – Valencia’s have started, while late navels are very short and finish up. Large sizes supplies are steady. Food service sizes 113/138’s, are very tight with active markets. Eggplant - Harvest is peaking on small sizes 18ct/24ct and are limited in supplies Onions - Oregon/Idaho is done for the season. Washington has about 2 weeks left. California desert, New Mexico, and Uvalde, TX are available. Tomatoes – Florida tomatoes are in transition. Mexican volume has been low as well due to transition and cool weather. • GREEN ONIONS The market is expected to continue to stay steady going into next week, based on lackluster demand.

• CUCUMBERS Expect to hit pretty good volume by the end of the week. Cucumbers will be a good item to promote for at least another week or two.

• BROCCOLI Broccoli is plentiful on both coasts and with Mexican crossings. Markets remain soft. Quality has been excellent.

• POTATOES Markets have risen on larger size 40 count through 70 count due to increases in foodservice business and the Burbanks having a smaller profile. Some lots may exhibit peepers and light mold.

• ONIONS The onion market has finally firmed up as the Pacific Northwest is finishing for the season and demand has been increasing. California and New Mexico will continue to ramp up with more volume in the coming weeks, which will replace the supply from the Pacific Northwest. As a reminder, we will experience thin, flaky skins on the fresh new crop onions.

• LIMESLime Peak sizing is mostly 200/230 count with very little 110/150 count.

• LETTUCESICEBERG - Ample supplies of iceberg lettuce continue to be available for harvest in the Central Coast and Salinas Valley growing regions. Demand seems to be increasing. Some growers are struggling to find enough labor due to the effects of the COVID-19 virus. Pending any unexpected events, volume will remain high and prices will stay low for the foreseeable future.ROMAINE / LEAF - Supplies of romaine, romaine hearts and leaf lettuces remain abundant with ample volume available for promotional deals. Quality reports show very nice overall quality with good size, color, and condition, and no major defects to report. SPRING MIX, SPINACH & BABY KALESupplies will continue to exceed demand. As various areas begin to open up, supplies should continue to easily meet demand.ROCKET ARUGULA/ BABY RED KALEArugula supplies have returned to normal and supplies will exceed demand for the foreseeable future. Production of baby red kale continues and supplies far exceed demand.

• APPLESRetail demand is moving the larger fruit and bags and now the USDA Produce Box program is causing high demand on small fruit (113-150ct). Shippers are increasing prices due to the volume on 12x3# bags (all varieties).

• BRUSSELS SPROUTS Market remains very short with low yields from poor quality and good demand. Expect to see high markets and tight supply for at least 2-3 more weeks.

• CELERY Celery supplies are lower to start this week due to lower yields from seeder and increased demand from school lunch programs.

• CORNGeorgia will be starting this week with large volume for the US Memorial Day holiday so we do not expect the market to get wildly out of control.

• AVOCADOSOverall availability is good on Mexican and California fruit. Currently markets are steady but could see a slight increase.

• PINEAPPLESThe USDA is reporting moderate demand and about steady market. Significantly better markets have been seen in the last few days, likely affected by lower inbound volume and stronger European demand diverting more volume away from the USA.

• MELONHONEYDEWS - Offshore season has concluded. Transition into the desert will be delayed due to abnormal weather conditions. Crop will be heavy on smaller sized fruit and tight on large sizes. Mexican fruit out of Nogales will be our best option.CANTALOUPES - The offshore season has concluded. Transition into the desert will be delayed due to abnormal weather conditions. Crop will be heavy on small sized fruit and tight on large sizes. Market is firm and active.

• TOMATOES Florida tomatoes are in transition. Mexican volume has been low as well due to transition and cool weather. Better supply next week should help soften the market.

• STONE FRUITThere are apricots, peaches and nectarines now available this week. Overall supplies will continue to increase as the season ramps up. Peaches and nectarines will begin shipping in volume the week of May 25; sugar levels will range from 10 to 12 Brix.

• ASPARAGUSPrices are day to day and product remains very short. Freezing weather last weekend and this weekend’s rain will push any volume of production to the end of May for Ontario asparagus.

• CAULIFLOWER The cauliflower market is steady due to light demand and very good supplies. Overall quality is good with slight bruising and yellow cast.

• MANGOESWhile we are still monitoring the COVID-19 situation, we have seen demand return and the market seems to be on the rise this week.

• PEARSDeals can be had on US#1 large (60/70/80 ct) Anjou at this time. Bosc pears are starting to wind down out of the Pacific Northwest and will finish in the next week or two.

• GRAPEFRUIT The USDA program is also pulling grapefruit, this will definitely keep the market extremely limited and pricing above historical averages.

• Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, please contact your sales rep if you are looking for any wild or foraged products.

• EGGPLANT EAST - Look for markets to level out through the week.WEST -The eggplant market has increased this week due to lighter supplies and higher demand.

• PEPPERS WEST -Moderate to light supplies of serrano, jalapenos, green and red peppers.EAST - Peppers remain extremely short and will continue like this until Georgia gets going. Mexican and Florida supplies are extremely limited as both seasons get close to their end.

• CITRUS - LEMONSThis would be a great time to promote larger size, 75’s. Big fruit is very nice and there is a decent amount of it when it comes to 75/95 choice and fancy.

• BEANSDemand remains minimal. Quality is very good on both green and yellow. Snipped bean supplies are steady, but pricing is still slightly elevated. Quality is good

• WATERMELON Availability is very limited with strong Memorial Day holiday retail ads this week. Open market will be very challenging. Overall demand is strong and consistent.

• ORANGES Valencia’s have started, while late navels are very short and finish up. Large sizes supplies are steady. Food service sizes 113/138’s, are very tight with active markets.

• BERRIES BLUEBERRIESExcept market demand to potentially spike and supply drop quickly over the coming two weeks.RASPBERRIESOverall, supplies are lighter.BLACKBERRIESBlackberry supplies are starting to decline and this is starting to be noticed in the market. STRAWBERRIESRecent rain has caused a slight disruption in harvesting which will have a residual effect through the end of the week.

• ZUCCHINI Green zucchini continues to be plentiful, while yellow is a little more scarce. Expect zucchini (especially green) to continue fairly abundant the rest of this month.

• GRAPES GREEN - It’s time to move into new Mexican crop as import supply and quality is poor.RED - Storage crop is good quality and promotional opportunities are available. New Mexican crop starts mid this week.
