SELECTING COLLEGES

Look for schools that support your child’s goals and personality well (e.g. individual needs, values, interests)

Develop a balanced college list; apply broadly:

Couple of “safe bets”

Couple of “long shots”

Mostly “targets” (50/50 chance of admission)

Track a college’s Acceptance Rate, and Mid-50% range of test scores and GPAs of the accepted students to your own child’s academic profile.

Early Action vs. Early Decision

• Early decision means you to apply early (usually

in November) and get an admission decision from

the college well in advance of the usual notification

date. IT IS BINDING!!!!

• Early action plans are not binding. It means you do

NOT have to commit to a college to which you've

applied for early action. Under these plans, you

may apply to other colleges. Usually, you can let

the college know of your decision in the late spring

or whenever you've decided.
