Sad Time
Happy Before Tolerance
After Tolerance
ToleranceAs a person drinks over a period of time, he or she may develop a tolerance to
the effects of alcohol. Tolerance means a person will have to increase the amount of alcohol consumed in order to feel the effects the individual felt when
they first started drinking.
Your BAC per Drink does NOT Change with Increased Tolerance

Caring for an Intoxicated Friend
DO’s:• Stay with them at all times• Reassure them• Keep them warm• Bacchus Maneuver• Give them water
DO NOT’s:• Let them drive• Give them food, coffee,
aspirin, or other drugs• Induce vomiting• Let them take a cold shower• Let them “burn the booze”
by exercising

Alcohol and Energy Drinks
• Both are diuretics• Mixing the two can boost heart rate and
blood pressure• Mixing the two can mask a person’s level of
intoxication– Increases likelihood of hangovers– Causes tendency to drink for longer periods of
time– Contributes to higher intoxication levels
Caffeine and alcohol are a dangerous combination of a heavy stimulant meets a heavy depressant.

Drinking and Hooking Up
• 90% of acquaintance rapes involve alcohol• Alcohol lowers inhibitions and may make people
more sociable, likely to flirt, engage in risky behaviors, and do things they wouldn’t do if sober.
• Alcohol is the number one date rape drug used on college campuses.
• Other predatory drugs are hard to detect and mimic the signs of severe intoxication
• Every time you engage in sexual activity you must have consent.
If you are intoxicated, you cannot give consent for sex.
