Alcatel-Lucent SyncWatch
Integration
SyncWatch Integration
SyncWatch integrates Northbound using SNMP v2c
– Can interface to any NMS or OSS system.
SyncWatch;
– Is an independent sync performance monitoring tool
• It can test the performance of any network and vendors equipment
– Provides industry standard measurements to nS resolution
SyncWatch is not network aware;
– It does not know the route(s) PTP packets have taken to arrive at the point of measurement
from the GrandMaster source
– It may not know how SyncE or Legacy delivered sync has been engineered in the network
5620 SAM & 5650 CPAM;
– Understand the network architecture, device capability and the end points of services
(remember PTP/1588 flows are services in this context)
By knowing the independent performance of sync (at the point of measurement
and connecting it with the knowledge of the network architecture the whole
system becomes even more powerful.

SyncWatch can operate as a separate sync monitoring system.
– Provides independent evidence of sync performance at the point of
measurement
– Even if an operator has SyncWatch and other NMS/OSS, SyncWatch
can still operate on its own and provide valuable performance data

Alcatel-Lucent Sync Solution Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM + 5650 CPAM
provide an integrated end-to-end sync service for sync over packet (SOP) – IEEE 1588v2
Sync service has one navigation point for alarms, stats and path information for slaves and masters (sync manager) • Sync service is correlation point for NE level alarms;
eg. switch from master1 -> master2
• Sync stat TCAs
• Sync service paths can easily be seen on MAP; eg. did routing move the path?
• End to end sync path audits (Using CPAM)
• Sync service correlates alarms & status for the end-to-end path from slaves to masters
• Sync tree can be seen on MAP; eg. master to all slaves (active or potentially active) (Using CPAM)
• Sync status can easily be seen on MAP; eg. nodes in hold over, nodes with failed BITS, selected masters (Using CPAM)
ALU sync solution makes it easier to plan, detect faults & correct failures in SOP networks

Alcatel-Lucent – SyncWatch Integration
Alcatel-Lucent & Chronos joint development to extend current integration to provide alarm correlation into sync service
SyncWatch NetSMART manages sync quality probes in the network – Sync dynamics like wander, LOS,
– Sync MTIE alarms and reporting
5620 SAM + 5650 CPAM <> SyncWatch Integration extends the sync service with new information – SyncWatch Probes are discovered via GNE (ifMIB /
sysMIB) into physical map
– SyncWatch alarms propagate to SAM and are correlated to the probe measurement port
– SAM+CPAM sync service provides an end to end correlated view of alarms including probe alarms

Alarm catalogue supports integration of SyncWatch alarms
Cross launching of SyncWatch NetSMART from the 5620 SAM UI MAP
GNE profile for SyncWatch NetSMART and probes enables visualization on the physical maps
Syncwatch NetSMART sends traps on behalf of the probes with the interface information to identify the device under test

Chronos Integration – Common Alarm View
5620 SAM real-time Alarm window
– Filtered view of the SyncWatch NetSMART Alarms
– Individual alarms are enriched with additional text gained from the varbinds
of the SNMP traps
– History of the alarms can be viewed
SyncWatch/SAM System Setup
(1) 5620 SAM: A GNE license for each SyncWatch NetSMART server and probe that
will be monitored
– CPAM license (for full integration; 1588 sync path/routes etc)
(2) SyncWatch NetSMART: The SNMP Northbound licence (Extra Purchase P/N:
2330-SNMP-TEL)
(3) SyncWatch 5620 SAM licenses – Applied to Probe (Extra Purchase P/N: 2330-
LIC-TEL-SAM)
– Note: In Release 4.x of SyncWatch license is added to each probe and not to the single
NetSMART instance
