Please enter through the Smollett Street gates. Parking will be available on the school grounds. Following extensive consultation and discussions with WHS Directorate, parents and health care professionals, the school now has a number of easily accessible Epipens throughout the school. Epipens are located in key areas of the school, including the administration block, all buildings housing classrooms, the gymnasium, hall and the General Assistant’s shed which is centrally accessible when students are in the playground. This has been a challenging process due to the strict storage conditions for Epipens. Clear signage is being erected and will indicate all locations of Epipens.

A message from the Principal

Welcome back to our Year 6 campers who

spent Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last

week in Canberra. All reports were extremely

positive and I am so proud of the behaviour,

learning and cooperation that was

demonstrated by all of our Year 6 students. All

students and parents/carers that I have spoken

with since have reported that the excursion was

a lot of fun and very beneficial to the study of Australia’s

government and democracy.

Planning is underway for the Year 5 camp to Ballarat to

reinforce learning about the origins of democracy in Australia.

Students will travel to Ballarat on 31 July and return on 2

August. The cost for this exciting learning opportunity is $370.00.

An expression of interest accompanies this newsletter.

The parent information session, Supporting Literacy and

Numeracy at home – a guide for parents/carers, will be

repeated in a twilight session next Tuesday, 28 May in the KWH

classroom (in the West). This session will start at 6:00pm and

conclude at approximately 7:00pm, prior to the May P&C

meeting. If you are interested in attending, please contact

the front office, or email the school, to express your interest.

The session is predominantly for parents of students in K – 2 but

will provide valuable information for all parents on promoting

literacy and numeracy at home. Please enter through the

Smollett Street gates. Parking will be available on the school

grounds.

Following extensive consultation and discussions with WHS

Directorate, parents and health care professionals, the school

now has a number of easily accessible Epipens throughout

the school. Epipens are located in key areas of the school,

including the administration block, all buildings housing

Page 2: Albury Public School NEWSLETTER · ensure that this behaviour does not continue. Please assist us to keep your children safe. The Albury PSSA has confirmed the catch up day for the

Kindergarten will be holding a picnic lunch for our Kindergarten parents and carers on Monday

27 May from 11:00am. Come along and join us for one of our favourite times of the day. Please

bring a picnic rug and your lunch and don’t forget to sign in at the office.

Last Friday, the school participated in the annual “walk safely to school day”. Students were

reminded about crossing safely at the lights, holding an adult’s hand and the importance of

being vigilant when on or near the road. This is a great time to remind all parents and carers

that dropping off and collecting students outside the David Street entrance is extremely busy

and potentially dangerous in the mornings and afternoons. Please do not encourage your

children to cross in the middle of the road directly outside the school. Please use the lights.

Please DO NOT double - park and ask children to alight or enter the car. This is extremely

dangerous and will result in an injury or worse. Police do and will continue to patrol this area to

ensure that this behaviour does not continue. Please assist us to keep your children safe.

The Albury PSSA has confirmed the catch up day for the washed out Zone Athletics Carnival will

be held on Wednesday, 29 May at the Les O’Brien Precinct. The following students are required

to attend the day, which will start at 12:00pm.

All junior and senior relay teams

All 1500m runners previously nominated

All 11yr boys high jump

All junior girls discus

The 11 yrs girls high jump

Some 12/13 yrs boys high jump

There is no cost to attend this catch up event as these costs have been met by the Albury PSSA.

All students who are required to attend have received a permission note from Miss Sheridan or

Mr Takle. All students will be transported to the event by bus and back to school by bus.

The PSSA winter competition starts in Week 6 of this term, Friday 7 June. Team selections are

currently happening and will be finalised in time for the competition to start in two weeks. This

year, we will have junior and senior teams in soccer, netball and AFL. Unfortunately, we didn’t

have enough interest to send hockey teams this year.

Tomorrow, Friday, is the zone cross country carnival. Mr Clift will be accompanying 60 students

to the carnival at the Equestrian Centre at Thurgoona. Good luck to all of our competitors. I

hope that the weather is kind to you.

Next week is our annual K – 2 sports day. This fun-filled day starts at 11:45am on Wednesday, 29

May and will include running races and other novelty events that the K – 2 students have been

preparing for. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours. The canteen is providing a

whole-school sausage sandwich lunch on the day. These orders must be returned by Friday

(tomorrow) to the canteen.

Congratulations to Grainne Bulters-Trainor (5AC) Annabella Roberts (5AB) Oskar Baldwin (6LCB)

and Elspeth Morris (6LB) who have been selected to attend Riverina Choral Camp, held at

Borambola, next week, Week 5. I am sure they will all make the most of this wonderful

opportunity to share and develop their talent for singing, and that they will represent our school

proudly throughout the experience.

starts with a consistent connection to books.” Dr Brad Gustafson

Election Day BBQ/Cake Stall

Thank you to every one who supported Saturday's election

day barbeque and cake stall by baking, volunteering and

purchasing from us on the day. Together we raised $2002 to

buy Science Equipment for our school.

Our election day fundraising this year has raised more than

$3000 for our school.

P&C meeting will be next Tuesday 28 May from 7pm in the staffroom. Please enter from Smollet

Street. You will hear all about our successful fundraising over the last month , get a preview of

the works we are planning for improving the outdoor environment and hear the latest from the

canteen. We are seeking people interested in helping out and taking on roles in fundraising. We

are also looking to replace our very capable voluntary canteen manager. Everyone is welcome

to attend. Our P&C joining fee is $1, and that gets you in the loop! Hope to see you there!

We are also looking for donations of Cooler bags for the canteen. If you have a spare one

laying in your boot drop it off at the canteen.
