NAPLAN The reports from the NAPLAN tests undertaken earlier in the year have arrived back. We will be sending the results home today. As usual, all of the staff will spend considerable time in the coming months, looking at the strengths and areas of future development for individuals and the school as a whole. We are very mindful however, that these results are just a snap shot of what happened on one day at our school. If the information presented in your report is vastly different to what you received in the half yearly report, parent teacher interviews or in general conversations you may have had, your child’s teacher is the best person to discuss it with. Just phone the school to arrange an appointment. This year is the first time that the children have completed the tests online.

Nitbusting Mention head lice and most of us instantly develop an itch. You'll find these little critters at every school across Australia – and probably the world – at some point during the year. While head lice and nits, (the eggs of head lice) are certainly annoying and persistent, they're not dangerous. To help manage these annoying creatures at our school we ask that every parent checks their children’s head on Monday nights and then treat appropriately. As we all know, it may require several treatments. Red Cross are looking for Volunteers Do you enjoy making a difference? Do you have understanding and empathy for the needs of refugees? Can you work as a team and independently? Are you flexible, creative and friendly? If you answered yes to the above questions, then this may be for you.

The Red Cross is in search of people who are willing to volunteer as part of their Humanitarian Settlement Program. Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help newly arrived refugees feel welcome. If you would like to find out more please feel free to contact the school and we can send more detailed information home to you.

Uniforms Please make sure that all uniforms are clearly marked with your child ’s name so we can return clothing that is left lying around the school. Reminder: Next term, we will have our ‘No hat, play in the shade’ policy in effect.

Obstacool A huge thank you to the families who attended this fantastic day last Friday. The children obviously enjoyed your company and the major change to our normal Friday routine. We are sure that most people slept well on Friday evening. A highlight was surely the student, teacher and parent challenge at the end of the day. Many thanks to Mr Fury and Mrs Chalmers in the front office for organising the day for us. Here are a few photos of the day – there were many more on Facebook although we have not published the photo of Ms Hutchison’s swollen ankle!
