Dangerous Goods Inspector
Responsibilities Dangerous Goods Inspectors have both Provincial and Federal Dangerous
Goods appointments as well as being Peace Officers in Alberta.
• Conduct facility inspections with trucking companies as well as the
companies who are having the dangerous goods shipped.
• Respond to dangerous goods incidents to provide technical assistance to
first responders and other responding personnel.
• Conduct investigations when major dangerous goods incidents or violations
have occurred.
• Participate in joint investigations with other government agencies.
• Conduct audits of highway tank facilities.
• Train on-highway inspectors such as police or county officers.
Conducting Facility Inspections
• Dangerous Goods must be properly classified before shipping
• Proper documentation with the shipment
• Safety marks (placards) are in place on the shipments and are the correct ones.
• Packaging is in compliance.
• Anyone handling or transporting the dangerous goods is trained.
• Person in possession of dangerous goods at the time of an incident must report.
