ALASKA

TRIP OVERVIEWOur annual destination to the Kenai Peninsula in the great state of Alaska is home to breathtaking annual runs of wild steelhead. Fall steelheading in Alaska cannot be beat and no one does it better than Minturn Anglers! Join our crew for one or two weeks from September 20th to October 4th on our favorite peninsula and experience steelheading like it should be. We fish primarily on the Kasilof River in drift boats from it’s glacier fed lake to the mouth of the bay. We average fish from 28”-31” and had days last year where 18 fish were hooked from one boat!

The locals and the scenery up here are all part of this experience, and a big part of what keeps us going back year after year. We see all kinds of wildlife (eagles, moose, bear and more), catch plenty of huge steelhead, and enjoy having a beer or two watching the sun set over the snow covered volcanoes after a great day of fly fishing. The weather is very mild through early October, with average highs in the 40’s and 50’s which is balmy steel- heading.

Once you come to Alaska you can pretty much put it on your schedule for every year after that, as that’s what happened to us here at Minturn Anglers.

TRAVEL DETAILSThe easiest and quickest way to get your destination trip started is to fly to the Anchorage Airport. This airport is approximately 3 hours from our lodge in Ninilchik and will get you to steelhead (or the local bar) the quickest! This airport has flights going in and out daily with connections in California and Washington to break up your flight. For each week we ask that everyone arrive on either September 20th or September 27th so we can get everyone to the lodge in one commute.

You can fly multiple airlines to Anchorage and the Minturn boys will have a van waiting to take you to and from the airport. Luckily the most popular bar in Anchorage is a stone’s throw from the airport where we can eat halibut and drink local beer until the remaining fishermen arrive or depart. You are also welcome to pick up a rental car and meet us at the lodge if you would like personal transportation on your trip.

LODGING & MEALSThis year’s trip provides some of the best lodging and location to date. Our crew has the entire property known fondly as “Cabins on the Bluff” booked solid for an exclusive stay with Minturn Anglers. Each cabin has a completely furnished kitchen, multiple bedrooms and personal bathrooms in each building.

Cabins on the Bluff is located in Clam Gulch and is equidistant from Homer, AK, and the Kasilof River where we will have float crews on the water every day. We are also just minutes from the rivers we will be wade fishing for steelhead; The Ninilchik River, Deep Creek and the Anchor River.

Breathe taking views of snow covered, active volcanoes cap off a day of fishing and it’s not uncommon to have the occasional moose stop by your cabin to say hello. Nothing is better after a hard days fishing than a relaxing evening watching the sunset from your cabin porch before retiring with steelhead dreams.

All meals are provided and will be cooked by Billy McMillan, Minturn guide and Colorado chef. Hot breakfasts, shore lunches and home cooked dinners are provided and ready for you before you leave in the morning and waiting for you when you get back from fishing.
