Let us help with your bucket list One of my bucket list items has been to experience Yellowstone National Park. Since 2007, my wife Becky and I have adventured annually in a national park. Last fall, our friends Tom and Lisa Samuelsen joined us on our adventure to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The adjoining pictures show us biking with the Grand Teton Mountains in the background and the Grand Prismatic Spring. This spring is the largest in the United States and the third largest in the world. The vivid colors are the result of microbial mats which are a multi-layered sheet of microorganisms. The spring is 370 feet in diameter and 160 feet deep. These two pictures only begin to tell the story of our fantastic time in Yellowstone and the Jackson Hole area! Please give us the opportunity to help you with your bucket list. Our travel agents are ready to help you with any type of travel. There is no fee to consult with an agent. We offer exclusive AAA benefits. Our personalized service and support during your trip can’t be matched by the impersonal internet. I am so proud of our travel agents. Let me share a few testimonials that we have received from our members. “Joe Prijdekker (Stroudsburg office) did a spectacular job, surpassing all previous trips we have taken in our lifetime. He took such good care that everything would go smoothly, and it did! We felt like family to him.” “Donna Gasper (Honesdale office) is an outstanding employee. She is friendly and superior in the knowledge of her job. She always calls back and insures that everything is perfect. Donna is a stellar employee.” “I wanted to let you know of the outstanding service that Maria Miller (Towanda office) gave us at every step of our adventure. She went out of her way for us.” One of our agents would be thrilled to help you with your travel plans. Stop by one of our local offices or give us a call. Thank you for your membership!

Rocky Mountaineer, the luxury tourist train operating in Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies, is the best way to see everything this part of the world has to offer. The train takes guests on an awe-inspiring adventure alongside rivers, through quaint mountain towns, and past stunning, snow-capped mountains. Along the way, guests have a front-row seat to fleeting wildlife, including moose, elk, bighorn sheep, bears, and soaring eagles. The train takes you on a journey, stopping in iconic destinations and charming mountain towns where the adventures continue. Trek across a glacier; climb in a gondola to ride to the top of a mountain; inch your way across a suspension bridge; or even take a helicopter tour with panoramic views as far as the eye can see. With Rocky Mountaineer, you truly get the best of both worlds. And by that, we mean days filled with spine-tingling views, and your nights spent unwinding in the world’s most luxurious hotels. You’ll explore iconic destinations like Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, as well as stunning national parks flanked by towering mountains. A team of onboard Hosts regale you with details of a dramatic past and charm you with fascinating historical facts of monuments and landmarks just outside your window. Guests can take a break from sitting in their plush, spacious seats and step onto the outdoor viewing platform to stretch their legs and get a breath of fresh, Rocky Mountain air. Onboard the train, you’ll be greeted by the smell of the freshly baked cinnamon scones, and later served a delectable lunch of sea salt-flecked Fraser Valley chicken or braised Alberta beef short ribs. Between meals, snack on Earl Grey-scented trail mix, freshly baked cookies and gourmet cheese. Wines from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley and local craft beers and other complimentary beverages round out the culinary experience. We call Rocky Mountaineer “all aboard amazing,” for good reason. The food is exquisite; the views are priceless, and the people you’ll meet are friends you’ll have for life. You’ve never experienced travel quite like this.

By Stephanie Mennella and Bobbi Jo Bassler As you know, all-inclusive resort destinations have become increasingly popular over the past few years. We want you to know that we have been to many of these destinations, and we highly recommend that you look more closely at the benefits of all-inclusive travel. Perhaps you have enjoyed this on a cruise ship, but if you prefer dry land and also yearn for the warm sands of the Caribbean or the Pacific, we urge you to consider a travel adventure to Mexico. Our beautiful neighbor to our south has so much to offer to vacationers of all persuasions. The residents are warm, welcoming, friendly and always willing to extend a hand. Some popular news may suggest otherwise, but we have not found this to be the case. And of course the benefits of an all-inclusive resort cannot be overlooked in the planning process. This travel opportunity allows you to pay one price for everything with no hidden costs. There are a wide range of resort options from budget to moderate to deluxe packages. Each resort’s offerings can be different, so it is always a good idea to have your AAA North Penn travel agent help you research and make your final decision, as well as take care of booking your travel for an easy breezy start to your vacation. Your agent might ask such questions as: what amenities do you prefer? Do you want a family-friendly locale or an adults- only atmosphere? Do you want to include excursions and opportunities for such activities as golf, tennis, or water sports? Or do you prefer a budget plan where just being away in a quiet place is all you need? It is no secret that the opportunity for a variety of experiences is waiting for you in Mexico. Whale watching on the western coast or sunbathing in Cancun. Relax on the white pristine beaches of Tulum or explore the tropical forests of the inlands. Imagine a resort that features numerous restaurants, entertainment galore, swim –up bars and optimal personal service from their professional staff. There is no shortage of pampering that you can enjoy in an all-inclusive resort, or perhaps you are yearning for a new adventure every day. Whether it is relaxation, adventure, family fun or romance, the choices are yours to make at an all-inclusive Mexican resort. And if you have a special event coming up soon – a birthday, an anniversary, destination wedding, or even a honeymoon, consider the options at an all-inclusive. You will find all of the planning support you need, and your guests will benefit from the pricing that cannot be beat for this special occasion. Create the atmosphere of your dreams for the memories of a lifetime. Mexico is a country of delicious foods, soft, sandy beaches, historic sites and adventures that await. It boasts a wide selection of all-inclusive resorts that will tempt the most discerning travelers, whether your goal is a deluxe luxurious experience or a budget friendly trip to learn more about the all-inclusive experience. And no one knows more about the all-inclusive Mexican opportunities than your professionals at AAA Travel. So as you choose this amazing vacation option, be sure to make it the best from start to finish by letting your agent help you explore, compare, decide and then plan the vacation of a lifetime. Call today – the opportunities are waiting!

Come on – Plan that trip to Mexico!Stephanie Mennella, from the Stroudsburg office and Bobbi Jo Bassler, from the So.uth Williamsport office.

Gary packed his bags again The always popular Gary Chrisman recently packed his bags for another of his always popular group tours. Many of his friends joined him, including Suzanne Burkholder, AAA Escort on board the Viking Vilhjalm for a seven night deluxe river cruise starting in Budapest and ending in Passau. The trip included motor coach travel to Philadelphia and round trip airfare to Budapest and from Munich. Once the group boarded the Vilhjalm, the Danube River became their address for the next seven days. Ports of call included Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Krems, Linz and Passau. Members took walking tours and enjoyed soaking up the culture, history and the incredible architecture of the region. Excursions included stops at historical sites like the Benedictine Abbey of Gottweig, the Wachau Valley, and UNESCO World Heritage site Cresky Krumlov. The beauty of the cathedrals, the landscape that surrounded every stop, and the history that surrounded the group made this another memorable trip. And of course Gary added his fun along the way! Watch for his next tour – you do not want to miss it!

Look Who’s Traveling with AAA

Pocono office trip explores the Pacific Northwest & CaliforniaA large group of travelers served by the Pocono AAA North Penn office recently flew to Seattle to begin a motor coach tour of our beautiful northwest USA. Highlights of the trip included visits to Seattle, the Mount Saint Helens Visitor Center, Portland, Columbia River Gorge, Newport, Bandon State Natural Area, Redwood National Park, Eureka, Avenue of the Giants & San Francisco. The visit to the redwoods was considered by many to be the most memorable part of the tour. Next year, the office plans to offer another motor coach tour to Cape Cod – plan ahead to join!

Nothing better than a Mediterranean CruiseAAA’s Melanie Palski and Linda Prior escorted a large group of travelers

on a cruise around Spain and Italy this past October. They boarded Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas that features acres of glass enclosing

a beautiful nine story atrium ensuring breathtaking views no matter which way they turned. And while not enjoying the magnificent vessel, the group

visited Barcelona, Nice, Portofino, Florence, Rome and the Amalfi coast. The weather cooperated, too – wonderful!

Tioga County group “hangs out” in MexicoKevin Thomas, KC 101 radio personality, took a fun loving group of travelers to one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. The group enjoyed 6 nights at the NOW Jade resort in Riviera Maya, Cancun. The NOW resort features 7 restaurants, a grill snack bar, and 5 bars & lounges, including a swim up pool bar. Guests could also choose from tennis courts, a fitness center, kids club, basketball courts, a disco and 4 pools. There was always something to do and each evening, local entertainment added to the atmosphere. Kevin plans to cruise to Bermuda this year – why not join him? Free Travel!

Frances G. Langan, from Scranton recently found himself ready to book two cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He regularly uses his AAA Visa credit card for everyday purchases, and thanks to the points he had accumulated with his purchases, was able to apply $4,900 toward the price of those cruises! “What a very nice amount of free money to put toward a dream vacation,” Frances says. Rose Belotti from the Scranton office helped Frances apply those points, and she or any of our other professional agents can do the same for you. Apply for your AAA Visa card today – there is no telling where it may take you!

AAA Group heads to Southern CaribbeanA group of AAA members escaped the cold weather and headed to the Southern Caribbean last month. The group was escorted by Randal Moore. Many people view their pets as full-fledged members of the family. Spot and Snowball often have their own beds, premium-quality foods, a basketful of toys and a special place in their humans’ hearts. Until it’s time to go on vacation, that is. Then the family dog or cat is consigned to “watching the fort” at home while everyone else experiences the joy of traveling. Many animal lovers hesitate to take their pet with them because they don’t think they’ll be able to find accommodations that accept four-legged guests. Others aren’t sure how — or if — their furry friends will adapt.

Discover the joys of traveling safely with pets

The truth is, including a pet in the family vacation is fairly easy, so long as you plan ahead. Most pets respond well to travel, a fact that isn’t lost on the tourism industry. More than 13,000 AAA Diamond properties from coast to coast are pet friendly, and airline bookings for pet passengers are on the rise. Great companions at home, pets are earning their stripes on the road, too. So, if you’ve been longing to hit the trail with a canine or feline companion, check out www.aaa.com/pettravel for travel tips and more. You may find that a getaway can be far more enjoyable with than without your pet. You are ultimately responsible for your pet’s welfare and behavior while traveling. Since animals cannot speak for themselves, it is up to you to focus on your pet’s well-being every step of the way. It also is important to make sure he conducts himself properly so that other pets will be welcome visitors in the future. The ‘Traveling with Your Pet’ pages include: • For everyday fun, check the listings of dog parks and pet friendly national public lands, or search the attraction and restaurant listings for places to play and eat. • For getaways that involve overnight stays, explore the hotel and campground listings, articles on important pet travel considerations — plus helpful links — and listings of emergency animal clinics. • And wherever you go, capture the fun on camera and submit your favorite shot in the quarterly pet photo contest. Check out the irresistible entry photos and place your vote, and see previous winners honored in the Pet Photo Gallery.Make every adventure with your best friend a safe and enjoyable trip to remember.

Every year, more than 10,000 people are killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That’s one alcohol-impaired driving death every 50 minutes. Driving under the influence of marijuana is also a concern. As more states move to legalize recreational marijuana usage, drivers should be aware that it’s still illegal and dangerous to drive while marijuana-impaired. Follow these tips to keep roads safer for drivers, passengers and pedestrians:For drivers – plan ahead, so it’s easy to make the right choice if you’re impaired • Choose a designated driver before you go out. Make sure they agree to stay alcohol- and drug-free. • Download a ridesharing app such as Lyft, or program your local taxi’s number into your phone. That way, you can get a safe ride home if you need one with the touch of a button. • Stay with a friend or book a nearby hotel room if you are impaired. • Understand your medications. Visit Roadwise Rx (www.roadwiserx.com), a free tool from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety that motorists can use to see how their medications affect their driving safety. For hosts – plan parties with safety in mind and minimize liability • Offer non-alcoholic drink options and serve plenty of food. • Never serve minors. • Stop serving alcohol well before the party ends. • Consider using a professional bartender. They can recognize signs of impairment and limit alcohol. • Remind guests to plan ahead and designate a sober driver. • Don’t be afraid to take car keys away from guests who are too impaired to drive. • Help arrange alternate transportation or accommodations for guests who need it. For everyone – take steps to protect yourself • Always wear your seatbelt. Nearly half of all vehicle occupants killed in car accidents were not wearing seat belts, according to NHTSA. • If you spot someone who appears to be an impaired driver when you are on the road, keep a safe distance and call 9-1-1 if it is safe to do so. Do not attempt to stop the other driver yourself.

What is AAA doing about Distracted Driving? The safety of our roads has always been a priority for AAA and its members. AAA has worked to educate the public on the risk of cell phone use while driving since 1984. AAA incorporates information about distracted driving into driver training materials, resources for teen and senior drivers and DMV driver’s manuals. AAA is a strong voice in state, local, and federal government efforts to advocate for a comprehensive approach to the problem of distracted driving, whether by laws or regulations, funding education and research, or investing in enforcement and safer roads. Most recently PA State Rep. Rosemary Browns HB37 was passed in the house. Right now a secondary offense but Representative Brown will be working with the senate transportation committee to have the cell phone ban amended back to a primary offense. Currently, using a “handheld device” to talk, text, email, message etc… is considered to be “Distracted Driving” which comes with a minimum $50 fine, plus court costs and fees, in the Commonwealth. As we approach Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April we encourage safety on the road and in the car. Distracted driving is defined as any non-driving activity that a driver engages in while behind the wheel. Since the invention of the car and other motorized vehicles, there have been several cases regarding this phenomenon. Drivers, most times, are aware of the diverse number of causes, consequences, and risks that this single act can bring. There are typically three distinct types of distracted driving, according to the most relevant distracted driving statistics: manual, visual, and cognitive. With the sole aim of helping readers understand practically everything there is to know about this danger, we’ll be taking a look at some of its most useful and noteworthy statistics and facts. Our goal is to provide greater insight into what getting distracted while driving actually means. Distracted driving has some horrifying statistics to its name. Despite that, it’s important for drivers to understand its dangers so that they can make safer choices. Below is a concise and well-researched rundown of the most important statistics on the subject. The Most Startling Distracted Driving Statistics for 2020: • 21% of teen drivers involved in a car accident were distracted by cell phones. • A teen driver with one additional passenger is twice as likely to be involved in a fatal car accident. • Texting or reading a text takes a driver’s eyes off the road for at least 5 seconds. • In some states, a distracted driving citation can raise insurance rates from $87 to $762. • According to the NHTSA, 660,000 drivers use electronic devices while driving. • Men are 4 times more likely to drink and drive, while women are more likely to text and drive. • Reaching for an object increases the chances of a car crash by 8 times according to the more alarming distracted driving statistics. • Parents with young children are more likely to be distracted behind the wheel than adults without kids in their car. • Once a driver has been distracted, it takes only 3 seconds for a car crash to occur. • In the United States, about 9 people are killed every day due to car crashes involving a distracted driver. Please do your part and put the phone away prior to getting behind the wheel. To help do your part visit www.aaa.com/dontdrivedistracted.

Impaired driving - a major AAA concern • Talk to friends and family about the dangers of impaired driving. Parents should talk to their children about this issue long before their teens get into the driver’s seat. Call your AAA insurance agent or insurance customer service, or visit your local branch for more information about auto and home insurance.

Whether you’re hitting the highway or taking flight, it’s important to take precautions to help protect your identity before, during, and after your trip. Before Your Trip 1. Clear your wallet or purse. Only carry what you need for the trip, such as your driver’s license, passport, and essential credit and debit cards. 2. Notify your financial providers about your trip so they won’t decline your card for suspected fraudulent activity. 3. Check your credit report. This will help you spot suspicious changes when you return. 4. Hold your mail. The U.S. Postal Service can hold your mail for up to 30 days. It also offers Informed Delivery, which scans your mail and emails you a PDF. When you return, you can check for missing items. 5. Pay your bills to avoid exposing sensitive personal information online while traveling.During Your Trip 1. Avoid public Wi-Fi; it’s easy to hack. If you must use it, don’t share any sensitive personal informationwhile on the network. 2. Safeguard your boarding pass. Boarding passes reveal a lot of personal information, including your full name and travel destination. Use mobile tickets when possible, but if you use paper, upon landing, rip it into pieces or store it safely until you get home. 3. Secure important documents. Store your passport and other important documents in your hotel safe. For added security, record your passport and credit card details for all travel companions in case your wallet is lost or stolen. 4. Avoid remote ATMs. Such devices may have skimmers attached or cameras that can capture your withdrawal data. 5. Don’t overshare on social media. Wait until you return to post your memories. Don’t advertise that you’re away; it alerts fraudsters. After You Return 1. Check your credit report, bank, and credit card accounts for unexpected changes. 2. Change your passwords, especially if you accessed important accounts on

What are custodial accounts for minors and why should I get one? If you’re looking to invest in your child’s future, a custodial account may be the right choice for you. Learn what they are and how one can benefit your family. - What is a custodial account? – Custodial accounts are a type of arrangement in which an adult opens a financial account for a minor. The details around such programs (including roles and responsibilities) vary by state and further information can be found in state statutes (e.g., Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA)). Funding for such accounts can be money the minor is entitled to receive or a gift from an adult. The adult controls this account for the minor until they reach a specified age, which varies by state and other factors. Generally, the specified age is 18 or 21, or even extended to 25, at which point the custodian turns over the funds to the former minor. - What are the benefits of opening one? – Custodial accounts are a great way to save for a child’s future without many of the expenses and complications that come with opening a trust fund. Plus, you may enjoy some tax advantages. Please see a tax professional for information on potential tax advantages. Custodial accounts may not be for everyone (e.g., such accounts may have an impact on a student’s financial aid). Consider opening a custodial CD, Money Market, or Online Savings account to invest in your child’s future! Spring Season of Giving Are you celebrating a special occasion this spring? You may be planning for brilliant graduates and soon- to-be newlyweds or preparing to pamper moms and dads on their honorary days. The popularity for practical gifts has continued to grow, making gift cards the gift that everyone can appreciate. Giving a gift card takes away the stress of picking out “the perfect gift,” is more secure than giving or sending cash and still offers a personalized connection between recipient and giver. Gift givers enjoy the ease and convenience of buying gift cards because they can shop for all of their recipients in one place. Whether they are given in honor of a wedding, graduation, holiday or “just because,” many gift cards are customizable in dollar amount and designed to fit any occasion. Network gift cards, such as Visa®, are beneficial options, since recipients can spend them nearly anywhere and have the option to buy exactly the item(s) they want or need. Spending possibilities are endless as gift cards can be used in person, online and by phone, and the funds do not expire. For long-distance givers, the cost of sending gift cards is less than mailing a package. In addition to saving money on wrapping and shipping, gift cards are safer than giving cash. Visa cards, once registered, are eligible for lost or stolen cash as well as card replacement. Buyers and recipients have peace of mind knowing the funds on the card are protected, and once a card is registered, recipients can monitor card balance online and conveniently with a mobile app. Adding a personal touch to a card means a gift to remember by both parties. Gifting a card with a custom name and/or embossed message is not only impressive, but adds an emotional component to any special occasion. Plus, a gift card still offers a personal connection to the gift-giver. People love to use gift cards to treat themselves with material items or experiences. Recipients feel connected to the gift-giver when making and enjoying that meaningful purchase. The ideal gift can exist with a AAA Visa Gift Card. Purchase one at your local AAA or get more details at AAA.com/VisaGiftCard. Gift Cards are issued by MetaBank®, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. Use everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. Gift Cards valid only in the U.S. and have no cash access.

Pets were one of the top reasons Hurricane Katrina survivors gave for not evacuating during the 2005 disaster, according to the Fritz Institute. Nonetheless, the ASPCA reports some 250,000 dogs and cats were either killed in the devastating storm or left without shelter. After many disasters, thousands of household pets are left to fend for themselves and are lost, injured or killed, which is why it’s essential to have an evacuation plan that includes your pets. AAA suggests some steps you can take now that will help keep your “fur babies” and other beloved pets safe in an emergency. Tips to Support the Safety of Your Pet When Disaster Strikes • Apply a pet rescue alert sticker to your window. These stickers can be purchased for dogs, cats, birds or multi-pet households. They alert rescuers and first responders there might be animals trapped inside. • Create an emergency supply kit. This kit should include at least three days’ worth of food and water; medications and medical records (in a waterproof container); garbage bags; a leash, a crate or carrier; a picture of your pet in case you become separated; and anything else necessary for your pet’s survival. • Microchip your dog or cat. Even an ID tag or collar can be lost or pulled off. A microchip might be the only way to be certain your pet can be identified during a disaster. • Investigate places for your pets to stay. Because pets are not always allowed in emergency shelters, you should have a list of places your pet can stay in case of a natural disaster. A pet shelter, a pet-friendly hotel, and the homes of relatives or friends outside the area are all potential places where your pet could be sheltered. • Bring your animals inside. When you hear that a storm or disaster is on its way, make sure your pets are in the house close to you. Dogs and cats can get

Keep your pets safe in an emergencyconfused and become disoriented during difficult times and might try to run away. • Contain your pets. Put dogs in a room with the door closed and put cats in a carrier. The sound of thunder or the smell of smoke can frighten animals, and they might disappear under beds or in other parts of the house, making them difficult to find in a hurry. • Make sure birds and small animals are secure. If you have a bird, try to get it into a cage, and make sure that its leg band, if it wears one, is properly in place. For pets like mice, hamsters, lizards, and guinea pigs, the best thing is to latch them into their cages, so they can’t escape. • Establish a buddy system. Arrange to exchange keys and information with a friend who also has a pet. That way, you can check on each other’s houses and pets in case there’s an emergency when one of you can’t make it home. Pets are an important part of some 85 million American homes, according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association. Make sure your pets and the rest of your family are covered. For more information on auto, homeowners, condo or renters insurance, call your AAA agent or 833-879-7902 to see what discounts you might be eligible for and what type of coverage you might need.

Simple Steps to Find the Right Amount of Coverage Getting life insurance can be one of the most important decisions you make for those who matter most to you. But how much life insurance do you really need?If you’re seeking a broad way to look at life insurance, multiplying your annual salary by seven can serve as a baseline, or “magic number,” to start with. While this formula is a great starting point, keep in mind it serves only as a guide. The amount of coverage you need is unique to your situation and might change as your life’s priorities change — such as when you get married, start a family or approach retirement. To estimate how much life insurance is right for you and your family, consider the following factors: • Mortgage or monthly rent • Household expenses (groceries, bills) • Children’s education (college tuition) • Outstanding debt (student loans, credit cards) • Estimated final expenses (funeral and burial) Factoring in your life’s changing needs can help point you in the right direction when estimating your coverage. The good news is, you don’t have to figure out the cost of life insurance by yourself. Our experienced agents are here to answer any questions, walk you through your options, calculate costs and determine the type

Shield yourself with extra protection from a personal umbrella policy Do you have a teen driver, a swimming pool or hot tub, or a vacation home or rental property? Do you snow ski or water ski? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions – or if you or someone on your insurance policy is exposed to other potentially risky situations while driving or at home – you may want to consider a personal umbrella policy. Personal umbrella coverage is an extra policy that offers significant protection against liability claims or lawsuits for serious personal injury. A Personal Umbrella Policy provides an extra layer of security beyond the coverage limits of your auto or homeowners policy, and kicks in when the existing liability limits of your policy are met. For example, if your homeowners insurance policy has a $500,000 liability limit, but a catastrophic accident occurs and you are responsible for $1 million in property damage, legal fees and medical bills, a Personal Umbrella Policy can cover the remaining $500,000. Consider a Personal Umbrella Policy if you: • Have a young driver on your auto policy: teens are statistically the riskiest drivers on the road, with a crash rate three times that of drivers age 20 and older. • Own a swimming pool or hot tub: pools with slides or diving boards can also significantly increase your risk of an accident. • Participate in recreational sports or operate recreational vehicles: water sports, snow skiing, and boating can all increase the likelihood of an accident for which you may be liable. Owning watercraft, a recreational vehicle, or a motorcycle can also increase your risk. • Own rental property: if you own a vacation home or other rental property, consider a PUP to protect yourself and your assets. To purchase a AAA Personal Umbrella Policy, you must have both your auto and home insurance policies with AAA – and there may be other restrictions. A PUP offers a lot of coverage at an affordable rate. For more information, call your AAA insurance agent or insurance customer service, or visit your local branch to discuss your insurance needs.

It is officially 1 year since the Real ID became available in Pennsylvania. Did you apply for yours yet? Since PennDOT began issuing the cards in March 2019 more than 400,000 Pennsylvanians have acquired a Real ID. However, as of September 2019, an estimated 99 million Americans still don’t have federally compliant identification card. Americans will need this card or a valid Passport to fly domestically before the Oct. 1, 2020 deadline. Even if you recently renewed your Driver’s License it may not be the Real ID. The visible difference between a REAL ID-compliant product and a standard-issue, non-compliant product is that a REAL ID-compliant product will be marked with a gold star. REAL ID products are produced using the same security features as standard-issued products. Since March 2019, standard-issue, non-REAL ID driver’s licenses and ID cards started to look different. Per federal REAL ID regulations, non-REAL IDs must be clearly labeled with the words “Not for REAL ID Purposes.” So, if you recently had your ID reissued be sure to check for the gold star. Customers who choose to get a REAL ID will pay a one-time fee of $30, plus a renewal fee (current renewal fee is $30.50 for a four-year non-commercial driver’s license or a photo ID). The expiration date of the initial REAL ID product will include any time remaining on the current license or ID card, plus an additional four years, unless the customer is over 65 and has a two-year license. This expiration date structure means that customers won’t “lose” time that they’ve already paid for. After the initial REAL ID product expires, the customer will pay no additional fee, beyond regular renewal fees, to renew a REAL ID product.Ready to apply? Federal REAL ID regulations require that PennDOT verify a customer’s identity, social security number, Pennsylvania residency, and name changes (if applicable), even if a customer already has a PA driver’s license or ID card. More info about document requirements, including a printable document checklist, can be found on the Document

Did you get your Real ID yet? Deadline is October 1, 2020Check page of the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services website. U.S. citizens will need to present original versions or certified copies of the following documents, per federal regulations.Proof of Identity Examples: Original or certified copy of a birth certificate with a raised/embossed seal, or valid U.S. Passport.Social Security Card Social security cards be laminated or unlaminated but must be original – no photocopies will be accepted. *The name on your social security card MUST match the name on your proof of identity document. Two Proofs of Pennsylvania Residency Examples: Current, unexpired PA license or ID, PA vehicle registration, auto insurance card, utility bill with the same name and address.Proof of all Legal Name Changes (if applicable) Examples: Certified marriage certificate or court order issued by your county’s family court. *You must show a complete name change history that links your birth certificate name to your current name. If you have a valid U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card with your current legal name, you do not need to show any name change documentation. • Additional info on name changes related to REAL ID can be found on the Name Changes page on PennDOT’s website.Where can I get a REAL ID? Customers who choose to get a REAL ID have three options for obtaining one: • Apply online (pre-verified customers only) • Visit any PennDOT Driver License Center to have your documents verified and imaged, and receive your REAL ID within 15 business days • Visit a REAL ID Center to have your documents verified and imaged and receive your REAL ID at the time of service. Use this link https://www.dmv.pa.gov/REALID/Pages/REAL-ID-Center-Locations.aspx to find a PennDOT Driver License Centers that can issue REAL IDs over the counter.

Driver Safety

Learning to drive can be stressful for teens and parents. Teenagers have the highest crash rate of all drivers on the road. Parents can ease their anxiety and protect their kids by getting actively involved in the learning process. Talking frequently about driving safety, creating a driving agreement, practicing driving together and leading by example can make a huge difference in helping your teen drive safer—especially when you’re not in the car. Here are some tips to help keep your teen driver safe: 1 Talk about driving safety early and often. Start by teaching your kids what kinds of driving behaviors are risky: a) Speeding: Discuss the importance of adhering to posted speed limits and knowing when to slow down for bad road or weather conditions. b) Distraction: A AAA study found that interacting with passengers and cell phones were the most frequent distractions for teen drivers. c) Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Make sure your teen understands that impaired driving should never be an option. d) Poor visual scanning: Talk to your young driver about the importance of staying alert and constantly scanning the road for hazards. 2. Lay out the rules of the road. Research shows that teens report engaging in less risky behavior when there is a formal agreement to establish driving boundaries. Visit teendriving.aaa.com for a sample agreement and other information to help parents and teens navigate the learning-to-drive process. 3. Prepare with practice. Plan to log at least 100 hours of driving practice with

5 ways to keep your teen driver safe

your teen before letting them drive solo. Expose them to different situations while driving together – night and day, freeways and gravel roads, sunny days and wet weather – to increase their experience. 4. Set a good example. Show your teen that you take driving as seriously as you expect them to. Avoid speeding and distractions. Always wear your seat belt. Obey traffic laws. Never drive impaired. 5. nsure your new driver. Talk with your agent about adjusting your policies: a) Consider increasing deductibles. A deductible is the portion you pay out of your own pocket if you have to file a claim. Higher deductibles generally equal lower premium costs. b) Check for discounts. Ask about discounts for good students or teens who complete safe driving courses. You may also be able to save money by combining your auto and homeowners policies with a single insurer. c) Choose safety over speed. When shopping for a car for your teen driver, avoid cars with high horsepower. Consider heavier vehicles with electronic stability control, which is mandatory for vehicles since the 2012 model year.

Spring is here and it’s the perfect time for a drive! But there’s a little car maintenance you should do before you hit the road. You never know when that first beautiful spring day will come, and you want to be prepared. Here are five things to do to get your car ready for spring adventures. 1. Give Your Car a Good Wash Winter is finally over so you should give your car a thorough cleaning. This will get rid of all the corrosive road salt and chemicals that collected on your car. It might look clean, but the undercarriage especially takes a beating through the winter months. Make sure you hose off and wash the whole car. When you’re done, consider giving it a wax to not only make it look great but to also protect the finish from the harsh summer sun.2. Clean the Interior, Too The inside of your car also gets rough treatment during the winter and should be cleaned when warm weather arrives. The floor mats are likely holding a good bit of salt along with plenty of dirt. Vacuum your floor mats and then wash them with a floor mat cleaner. This is especially true if you have fabric floor mats rather than more rugged rubber mats as salt can ruin the fabric over time.3. Check the Wiper Blades Snow and ice are hard on your wiper blades. Clean them off and do a quick visual check to be sure they weren’t damaged. If there are any rips or missing bits of rubber in either of the blades, then they’re not going to do a good job of keeping your windshield

Car maintenance for the spring season aheadclear. If you see damage, then it’s time to get the blades replaced.4. Check Your Tires Tires are what keep your car connected to the road and checking them is a key part of car maintenance. Make sure they’re inflated to the manufacturer’s recommendations and add or remove air as needed. Also, check for tread wear to be sure there was no damage over the harsh winter months. If your tires aren’t in good shape, get them replaced.5. Be Prepared Make sure that you have a stocked emergency kit just in case you have a breakdown or accident. It should (at least) include flares, a basic first aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables or a portable power supply, and a blanket. Follow this simple checklist and do a little basic car maintenance before you head out on the road this spring and you’ll be sure to enjoy the ride.
