"We aim to please Imam Al Hujjah (ATF) by providing quality, affordable accommodation for the Zaireen visiting the shrines of

his Noble Ancestors (AS) so that the Zaireen may comfortably focus on spirituality and worship during their pilgrimage"

An Introduction to Anjuman e Faiz e Panjetani

An Introduction to Anjuman e Faiz e PanjetaniAnjuman e Faiz e Panjetani (A.F.P) was formed over a century ago, in 1912, for the purpose of rendering help and ameliorating the condition of pilgrims going for Ziarat & Haj

The organization aimed to help Zaireen perform their pilgrimage with comfort and ease. One of the ways in which the Faiz achieved this goal was by setting up Pilgrim Residences in Iraq at Kazmain, Karbala, Najaf and Basrah. These Pilgrim Residences were managed by the Jetha Gokal Family. In 1968, Shaheed Abdul Hussain Jetha Gokal, chairman of A.F.P. Trust in Iraq, was martyred. The then Government of Iraq confiscated the moveable and immoveable properties of A.F.P. in Iraq and suspended the activities of the Faiz in Iraq.

The new Government of Iraq constituted a committee in 2004 to look into all such issues of Auqaf properties illegally seized by the previous Iraqi Regime. The President and Vice President of the A.F.P. along with their team made several visits to Iraq and represented the case of the A.F.P. to the Prime Minister of Iraq and the judiciary.

After 10 years of constant follow up, Alhamdulillah, all the Pilgrim Residences located in Kazmain, Najaf and Karbala have been registered in the name of A.F.P. in the Land Records.

We are glad to advise that the Government of the Republic of Iraq - General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers, NGO’s Directorate, have confirmed the Registration of Anjuman e Faiz e Panjetani as an NGO in Iraq under Serial No.2176626 Registration Certificate Ref. No.1858 dated 30/12/2013, to carry on its day to day activities in the territory of the Republic of Iraq.

An Introduction to the Project

The Concept

“The project will provide pilgrims with a modern, clean and secure ‘home away from home’ facility to enable them to carry out their religious activities in comfort and with peace of mind”

An Introduction to the Project

Karbala is a vibrant religious centre that attracts millions of pilgrims every year. The number of visitors to the Holy City of Karbala is increasing significantly every year.

However, years of strife have left a huge dent on the city’s facilities and its ability to cater efficiently to these pilgrims. It is difficult to find affordable, comfortable accommodation during the high season (Muharram, Safar), without spending exorbitant sums of money.

During the brutal regime of Saddam Hussain, these facilities were forcibly confiscated in 1968/69. After much effort the A.F.P. properties have now been reinstated. We have now been given the opportunity to revive this noble cause, and provide comfortable and modern accommodation to Zaireen, at an affordable rate.

10

The Inspiration

An Introduction to the Project

The accommodation at any Ziyarat location plays a very important role for the Zaireen. It should provide the Zaireen with the peace of mind that is needed to help them focus on their Ziyarat and on spirituality.

However, as is often seen, a lot of the accommodation in the pilgrimage cities of Iraq do not meet these requirements. The A.F.P. Karbala project aims to create a facility that addresses this issue.

The project does not aim to provide an over-the-top, luxurious experience. The aim of this project is simply to provide all visitors with comfortable, modern accommodation that is designed to international standards in close proximity to the Haramain

Special care and thought has been put into all steps of the design and planning process to achieve these objectives while maintaining the affordability of the accommodation.

These considerations include:

• In-house laundry, dining, library and shop facilities• Energy efficient heating and cooling systems

(to save electrical costs)• Clean drinking water within the building• Wheelchair accessible toilets and rooms• High quality fixtures throughout the building • Low maintenance surface treatments and features

throughout the building

Why Build a Pilgrim Residence?

An Introduction to the Project

It is a question that we have often been asked: “Why build a separate facility when there are already a lot of hotels that exist in Karbala?”

The reasons behind the motivation for building the Al Qasr Residence are simple:

• The hotels close to the Haramain do not have the facilities that we propose to offer, and the ones that are new and ‘modern’ are generally located far from the Haramain.

• Zaireen to Karbala and other religious sites often have to pay exorbitant and often unaffordable rates for hotels during peak season.

The Location

The site lies 400m from the Haram Shareef of Imam Hussain (A.S.) on the main road, and will be only 100m from the Haram complex once the 300m Karbala Haram expansion project is completed in a few years (Blue Zone).

The Proposal

“The project aims to incorporate the best in terms of construction and building practices, sustainability green building codes and RO purified water throughout the facility.”

Current hotels in Karbala that are close to the Haram, are very basic, and the ones that provide an acceptable level of comfort (generally quite far from the Haram) charge very high rates especially during peak season.

The A.F.P. proposes to build and manage a Basement + Ground + Mezzanine + 12 upper floors Residence building on the plot.

This facility will cater to the needs of Zaireen by providing modern, comfortable and affordable accommodation for individuals and families, within walking distance from the Haramain in Karbala.

The Al Qasr Residence building will provide around 129 rooms including family rooms that would allow Zaireen to perform Ziarat with total peace of mind.

The facility will also incorporate features such as a coffee shop on the mezzanine floor, as well as a convenience store on the ground level.
