Inside
Students and teachers alike had a great time performing the rituals of Hajj at Al Noor Sunday School’s first Hajj reenactment event on October 6, 2013. From doing Tawwaf around the mini Ka’aba to running between Safa and Marwa in the school hall, all the students had a fun and educational experience to remember. However, throwing stones at the pretend Jamarat seemed to be the highlight of the day! There were grins from ear to ear on all the kids during that activity – Not to mention the giggles and laughter when volunteers pretended to shave boys’ heads at the conclusion of the rituals. Each class had a discussion and short presentation about the blessed Hajj before going downstairs for the reenactment. These types of fun, interactive learning experiences are exactly what Al Noor Sunday School wants to make available to the children of Shreveport and Bossier City.

Hajj Event (continued from page 1…)
This event would not have been possible without the hard work of the parents who brought the
whole thing to life and we are excited to have more activities like this in the future with your
help. Also keep an eye out for the Al Noor Hajj Event video on sale at the school soon!

Volunteer Spotlight!
With the tremendous help of
two volunteers from the Sunday
school, the model Ka’aba was built by Naseeba Niswan and
Heba Ghazawaneh. They spent
more than two hours covering it
in black fabric and gold glitter,
while Naseeba’s husband built
the structure out of wood. In
order to enhance the learning
experience for the children at
the Sunday school, these
volunteers were inspired to
organize the Hajj Event by ideas
they saw from other
communities. Hands on
activities enhance the way the
children learn.
Heba enjoys volunteering
every Sunday because she
loves helping with the kids.
Naseeba started helping after
she went to a lecture and the
speaker said that the learning
process needs to include the
parents. If they were asked to
build something for the Sunday
school again, they said they
definitely would! We would like
to thank them for what they do
and extend our greatest
appreciation to them.
Class Website Enhances Learning for
3rd Grade Girls
Did you know that Sr. Randa Eshaq’s 3rd grade girls’ class
has its own website? The website has become a great tool
for both the teacher and the students in maximizing the
learning experience this year.
Sr. Randa started the website at the beginning of this
school year to have a place for her students to go and find
information on homework assignments, notes from
previous classes and extra learning resources for the
students to utilize. Sr. Randa said this has turned out to be
a great tool for their class and the girls are really working
well with it. Even those students who may have been out
of town for a week can go to the website, download the
powerpoint from the class they missed and see the
homework assignment for the upcoming week so they
don’t fall behind in the material.
Sr. Randa encourages parents to visit the website as well
to see the resources available for their children in her
class. Visit the website at www.alnoor3rdgradeclass.weebly.com.

Al Adha Poster Contest! Participants were asked to use their creativity to make a poster about
Eid Al Adha and the rituals performed on this holiday. We really loved seeing all the posters
the students made and we could see they put a lot of time and thought into them, Mashallah.
The winners of this year’s contest are listed below and you can see pictures of all the posters

Al Noor Sunday School has a Librarian!
This year, Al Noor Sunday
School has brought a librarian
on board to get our school
library in tip top shape to be
an excellent resource for
students! Sr. Nivine Ankoud
has been diligently working
in the school library every
Sunday putting her amazing
detail-oriented organization
and planning skills to good
use along with her assistant
Nourine Jumhour.
They have completed sorting and organizing the current books
in the library and are now beginning the process of cataloging
all the books in our brand new library management system. This
system will allow students the opportunity to check out books
from the library in the near future, Inshallah! Sr. Nivine is also
doing extensive research to find valuable books and DVDs to
add to our library collection.
If you’re passionate about learning and knowledge and would
like to donate toward the expansion of the library’s books and
resources, please contact the school principal for more
