IBSTOCK IS PLEASED TO OFFER A RANGE OF CLAY PRODUCTS WITH GREAT SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS.Ibstock is the UK’s largest brickmaker with a product range in excess of 400 bricks. Our bricks are made from readily available and abundant materials such as clays and sands. On average they have a recycled content in excess of 12%. With a useful life that exceeds 150 years, a manufacturing process that incorporates the use of recycled materials and a low carbon footprint of just 28kg per m², brick is a sustainable building material.

Brick is strategically important to the UK economy with over 84% of houses built using brick.

Every £1 invested in construction generates £2.84 in economic activity with 92p of every £1 spent on construction retained in the UK.

The brick industry has been at the forefront of responsible manufacturing with key performance indicators ensuring that manufacturers are meeting sustainability targets. All 20 of our brick factories have achieved BES 6001 for responsible sourcing and we were the first brickmaker to achieve the environmental management standard ISO 14001 across all of our sites.

Bricks have been used in the construction of buildings since Roman times and with many of these buildings still standing today it is a testament to the durability of brick.

Advantages of Brick Acts as an acoustic barrier and offers excellent fire resistance.

Durability Brick will typically last in excess of 150 years with little or no maintenance.

Aesthetics With 20 factories our bricks are made locally allowing us to offer bricks that match existing architecture.

Ease of Installation Bricks can be laid quickly and easily by a qualified bricklayer. Ibstock also offers arches and chimneys to save valuable time on site.

Design Flexibility Available in a variety of textures, sizes and finishes, Ibstock bricks can either complement existing brickwork or act as a statement feature.

Thermal Mass Bricks can contribute to the thermal mass of a building. Well insulated brick buildings have a low thermal transmittance therefore heat passes slowly through a brick clad wall, resulting in a longer time to heat up and cool down which reduces the overall heating and cooling requirements.

Cost Bricks are more cost effective than other cladding materials including timber or render.

Eco-points External wall systems using brick are rated as A+ in the BRE’s Green Guide. The use of SUDS pavers can help achieve a Level 4 under the Code for Sustainable Homes. An extra eco point can be claimed when using Ibstock bricks because of our ‘very good’ rating under BES 6001 for responsible sourcing.

SUDS - permeable paving (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems)

Since October 2008, the use of SUDS surface finishes has been a legal requirement for many driveways joining the public highway.

Therefore in these situations, any new surface should incorporate a water permeable layer to minimise excess run-off during heavy rain. To fit impermeable surfaces above 5m2 requires the submission of a planning application, a fee and associated delays.

BrickShield® is the result of innovative research between two trusted names - Ibstock and Rockwool®.

Aimed at any customer with a solid wall property, BrickShield® improves the insulation performance, whilst retaining the character and appearance. It’s quick to install, with minimum disruption to the household.

The BrickShield® system consists of a unique Rockwool® insulation board that is bonded to the exterior face of a wall with BrickShield® Adhesive and then mechanically fixed with thermally broken BrickShield® Insulating Wall Anchors. The wall is then finished with BrickShield® Natural Clay Brick Slips from Ibstock, site bonded to the insulation with BrickShield® Adhesive and joints pointed with BrickShield® BrickPoint for a traditional brick appearance.
