As the incoming President, I am asking all members for some input. If you have an idea that you feel would help improve the weekend workshop, please send your idea(s) to me with some contact information. I promise I will share these ideas with the board to discuss. A lot going on in my life. Yet another surgery about six weeks ago. I had three spots in my neck fused. Argh! I am so glad to be out of that darn neck brace. Lillie (the kitty thought it was a play toy. I also just went back to work. Yep, after two years, my retirement is over. I will be with in the print shop at the Tacoma School District, running their VERY BIG copy machines. Can you believe that 2015 is almost over???!! Where has this year gone? I want to wish you all a very Merry and safe Christmas and the Happiest of the new year. Kathy

Wehadoveradozensmilingfacesjoinusandtheyarepickingupthedoubletoelikepros.Wehaveddancersfrom11yrs.oldto“mucholder”thanthatinournewclass.Ourmoreexperienceddancersareshowinguptohelpthenewdancersmastertheirsoundsandeasetheirfrustrations.Sofuntoseecloggershelpingournewdancers.
Itseemslikethegigglesandfunthatwesharedatourdemoshelpedpeopletoseethatwearemorethandancelessons.Weareacommunitycomingtogethertodanceandlaughandenjoyeachothercompanyandournewdancersarejoiningrightintothefun.
Wearesuperproudandexcitedaboutour“Performance”teamTheCherryCityRythymRockers.Theyaddedsomuchflavorandfuntooursummer
demos.Wehave5dedicateddancerswhoaredoingsuchagreatjobchoreographingmorethatclogsteps.Costumechanges,handmotions,linepatterns,andhugesmilesmakethisteamajoytowatch.

Why the Stuffed Toys
TheChildren’sHospitalatSt.VincentMedicalCenterconsistsof a20-bedmedical/surgicalunit,a4-bedpediatricintensivecareunit,andTheGerryFrankCenterforoutpatientsurgery.Allunitscareforchildrenfrombirththrough17yearsof age.
Everychildwhocomestothehospitalreceivesateddybear.Thebearsareacomforttochildrenwhoareill,inpain,and/orfrightenedinanunfamiliarsetting.Theyareoftenusedtodemonstrateproceduresbeforetheyaredoneonthechildrenandcanbeusedformedicalplay,whichservestoalleviatefears.Forinstance,whenworkingwithatoddler,wewillusethestethoscopeonthebearfirsttodemonstrate,andthenonthem.
WhenIamgettingaroomreadyforanadmission,Ihavethebearwaitinginthebedforthemtoseeassoonastheyenter.Countlesstimes,myhearthasbeenwarmedtoseethesmilesontheirfacesastheyseetheirbearandholdthemclose.
Ithasbeenahugeblessingtoreceiveavarietyof stuffedanimalsformanyyearsnowasaresultof theClogDownworkshop.Thankyoufromallof ourpatients,andknowthatyouarehelpingtomakeadifference!

Istartedcloggingasateen1988withaclubinHillsboroOregoncalledtheFootlooseCloggers,instructedbyKayAnnMcDow.Iwasintroducedtocloggingbymygrandparentswhowerepracticingonedayattheirhome.Ithoughtitwasinterestingandaskedif Icouldgoalong.Sinceclasseswerealreadywellontheirway,theyshowedmeafewbasicsstepsandforthenextyearandahalf Iwouldstandinthebackandwatchandlearn.AftergraduatingHighSchoolin1990IenlistedintheMarineCorpsandforthenext25yearslifehappenedandcloggingwasnotapartof it.
In2014IdecidedtogiveclogginganotherchancesoIturnedtomyfriend“Google”andfoundaclubnearmeandonaTuesdaynightonSeptember9th,2014IstartedlessonsforthefirsttimewiththeCarrouselCloggersinstructedbyLeslieHuffman.IfoundIhaddevelopedasecondleftfootoverthecourseof passingyearsandmybalancewaslostsomewherealongthewayaswell.LikeridingabikeIpickedupsomeof thebasicsprettyquickbutIsoonlearnedthatalothaschanged,newstepswereaddedandtomysurpriseaJoeywasnolongerconsideredanadvancestepanymore.
Bytheendof thecloggingseasonIfoundmybalanceandmyrightfoottogoalongwithmytwoleftfeet.Icouldrememberhalf thestepswelearnedfromvarioussongsandIfoundthatIlovedcloggingandeveryTuesdaywasmetwithexcitement.

Irememberallof lastyearLeslieandMiketellingusbeginnersthatweshouldattendworkshops,theyareagreatsourceof learningandarealotof fun.SowhenIsawtheemailfromLesliejustbeforethestartof ourcloggingseasonIsignedupandattendedmyfirstworkshop,whichhappenedtobetheNWCAworkshoponSeptember26thand27th.
Iwillsaythis,theywereabsolutelyright!Itwasalotof funandIlearnedsomuch.Therewerealllevelsof cloggersfrombeginnerstoadvanced,youngtonotsoyoung.Everyonewaswelcomingandsupportive,itwasfunlearningfromotherinstructorswhowerepatientandwillingtogothroughanystep.ImetpeoplefromCaliforniaandWashingtonanditwasfunhearingtheircloggingstories.
Asa“New”cloggerIwouldrecommendtoallthosebeginnersoutthereandthosenotsonewtogivesomethoughttothenextworkshopthatcomesyourway.Myguessisthatyouwillhavealotof fun,youwilllearnsomegreatnewsteps,metsomewonderfulpeopleandyoumostlikelywalkawayfeelingyouhavegottenjustalittlebitbetter.

Ithasbeenmyprivilege&honortoserveyouasPresidentforthelasttwoyears.Ican’tbelieveithasbeentwoyearsalready!Wehaveaccomplishedsomuchinthosetwoyears&IcouldnothavedoneitwithoutmydedicatedBoard.Everythingweaccomplishedwasateameffort–increasedmembership,increasednumbersatourworkshopsandtwogreatworkshopseachyear
Thoseworkshopswouldnothavehappenedwithoutthehelpof AlbertaStampwhosteppedinasWorkshopChairtoorganizethem.(eventhoughshewasnot“officially”appointedbutdon’ttellher!)FromgettinginstructorstoplanningthescheduletofindingalocationfortheOldiesworkshop,sheworkedtirelesslyonyourbehalf.ThankyouAlberta!
