WORSHIP

Until Father’s Day, Pastor Bob will be continuing his series of sermons on the Godly institution of family – Hometime is Family Time. In August look for several guest speakers.

Special Worship Events this Summer:

June 9 – Senior Recognition Sunday (11:00) – We will be having a graduate recognition time during second service to acknowledge all of our youth who are graduating from high school and college. Congratulations go out to Amber Friend, Samantha Price, and Juan Gabriel Crespo.June 9 – Lord’s SupperJune 16 – Father’s Day – Whisker Rubs Service - *Please note: 9:30 service only on Father’s Day – no Youth or Adult Sunday School. The choir will lead some awesome anthems and themes in serving God and being thankful for this country he has given us! This will be a very special time of reflection and encouragement for us as Christians and as Americans.August 11 – Lord’s SupperSeptember 8 - Heritage Day

WelcomeThe BBC family wants to make all visitors feel welcome. To facilitate this, Kelly Marshall has been asked to be the welcome caller. All guests who fill out a yellow card will be contacted in order to extend a welcome and try and answer any questions they might have. However, all members of BBC need to take this responsibility to reach out in Christian love and fellowship to our visitors. Guests are always a good thing!

Worship Ministry – Vision TeamWe will be adding a new projector that should produce a sharper image so people in the back will be able to better see the words on the screen during worship. That will allow us to turn the old projector around so that anyone in the chancel area (praise team, VBS leaders, dramatists) will be able to see the words of praise and worship as well.

Soon we will also have in place a help for people with hearing problems. We are purchasing ear sets that will act like personal monitors so those with hearing difficulties do not have to miss out on parts of the service.

We are also trying to teach and encourage that worship is truly about the LORD and honoring Him with our voices and hearts whether we think we can sing well or not, or whether we like every song or not. It’s all about what pleases Him! He is so worthy of our attention and admiration and praise!

Sometimes we will be changing the service order around, if it enhances what Pastor Bob is doing. One thing we learned from his last series on “spiritual disciplines” is that our children were learning to listen for his first seven

minute mini sermon before their children’s sermon. It was amazing how they all listened and then were ready when he called them down. It’s heartening to teach and see worship implemented on all levels, instead of teaching “entertainment”.

GROW

Promotion Sunday – August 11 – Children that are going to Kindergarten in the fall will join the Faithful Friends class, students that are moving to 3rd grade will join the Daring Disciples class, and students that are entering 6th grade will stay in worship with their family during the 9:30 service and join the Youth Sunday School class at 11:00. Students entering High School will also be promoted to the next youth class. Congratulations to all students who are going to the next class – may you all continue to grow “in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.”

Sunday Morning Bible Study – There are classes meeting in the education wing of the church for all ages. With the exception of Father’s Day (9:30 only), there is no change of schedule for the summer. All classes will continue to meet.

CHILDREN –

Infants and young toddlers will be lovingly taken care of in the nursery during 9:30 and 11:00 service times by a rotating group of volunteers.

Precious Lambs Preschoolers use the 9:30 service time focusing on sharing and cooperative play. Then during the 11:00 service, Mrs. Becky (Maine) leads the little ones in prayer requests, story time, music, and crafts.

The Faithful Friends class (k – 2nd grade) and Daring Disciples class (3rd – 5th) enjoy two Bible Studies each week. During the 9:30 Sunday School time in June they will learn about praying in a series of lessons called “Let’s Talk”. In July their lesson series is entitled “You Decide” where students will learn about Love, Forgiveness, Thankfulness and Deciding to Follow Jesus. In August, they will learn to apply their decisions as they find out how to “Tell the World”. The 3rd – 5th graders are continuing to work on memorizing Psalm 23 and The Lord’s

Prayer. Any help you can give the children with these tasks is greatly appreciated.

During the 11:00 Children’s Church time

in June, students will be finishing up the stories of Judges and Ruth. The rest of the summer lessons stay in the Old Testament books of I and II Samuel with lessons like Eli and the boy Samuel, God rejecting Saul as King, David and Goliath (always a favorite), David and Jonathon becoming friends, and God’s covenant with David.

Be assured that your children are getting a quality Christian education and fellowship experience as they are led by Christian teachers who are devoted to the children and their faith. Thanks to Kevin & Angel Polk, Mary & Roger Kilby, Amy Leddon, Kelly Marshall, Tammy Lusk, and Dave Simpson for all they do for these young people.

YOUTH – In July we will be starting a new study called “Linked” through our Navpress studies. We will be covering topics such as “Connections between God, each other and Us”, “God’s Promise for the Future”, and “How we Relate to Others”.

We have already purchased a year’s worth of studies and look forward to encouraging our youth with God’s truths! Stephen Buechner, Mark and Kim Jenkins and Stacie Duvall are wonderful youth leaders! So grateful for their love and dedication to the Lord and to our youth!

ADULTS - All adult Bible Study classes will continue to meet this summer and would love to have new members. Senior adults meet with Dan Maine at 9:30. Middle age adults have a choice of two classes – Steve Hamilton’s class at 9:30 and Lester Ryder’s at 11:00. Youngish adults meet at 11:00 in a class called Thrive. This summer Thrive class members are finishing an Andy Stanley study called Five Things God Uses to Grow your Faith to be followed by a ten week study entitled What’s So Amazing about

Grace by Philip Yancey. Each of these classes is full of caring people who are yearning to know more about God’s word and apply these principles to their lives. Attending Sunday School is a great way to meet new folks, become more involved with BBC and deepen your faith. All are invited to try a class and find a good fit!

Adult Bible Studies – some schedules for summer are changing, so look for details in the weekly bulletin!

Children’s Ministries

VBS – Colossal Coaster World - June 24th – June 28th! 6:30 – 8:30 PM – VBS is coming soon and we are very excited! The theme this year is “Colossal Coaster World: Facing Fear, Trusting God”. The scripture base is 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” As we face economic uncertainty such as job loss, terrorism such as the Boston bombings and the Newtown shooting and natural disasters such as the Oklahoma tornado, it is easy to feel uneasy and even anxious at times. Children are not immune to these feelings. As a matter of fact, they are often magnified as a child struggles with lack of control and the inability to communicate their feelings. As always, God is perfect in His timing and plans for this VBS theme were in place long before we knew that we would need it so badly. The children will spend a week singing, reciting scripture, and learning to trust God. Although our scripture comes from 2 Timothy, we will spend the week exploring the book of Acts. We will learn how Paul changed from hating Jesus to loving him. We will learn about Barnabas and about Paul and Silas in jail. We will learn to be bold in our witness as we see how Paul spoke

about Jesus and we can too. And we will conclude our lessons on Sunday morning as we learn that God has a plan for each one of us.

Be sure to register your child today! Electronic sign up is available on our website: www.bealetonbc.org .

NEW VBS FEATURE FOR PARENTS – Everyone wants to be a good parent. Would you like to find out more about “Raising Rock –Solid Kids in a Pleasure-Driven World”? To help with that, on the Tuesday night of VBS, parents are invited to bring their children to VBS and then stay for part one of Dr. Kevin Leman’s video series on Value-Packed Parenting. Parents will get a chance to discover the ” Best 10 Gifts You’ll Ever Give Your Kids” and then discuss the topic with other parents. If there is enough interest, there will be a chance to sign up for the other six parts in this series. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE A BETTER PARENT!

SPECOPS 2013– Saturday, June 8 for boys from K – 5th grade from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This is our third Annual SpecOps - a great event where boys get to be boys! The guys work together to develop teambuilding skills while conquering an obstacle course designed by the men of BBC. This year that includes a zip line, climbing wall and crawling bridge. Each participant gets a camouflaged t-shirt and dinner. The cost is $7.00. Sign up on line at www.bealetonbs.org.

Girls Spa Night - Our 2nd annual Girls Spa Night was a great success. We had nine girls spend the evening being pampered by our awesome youth volunteers. The volunteers shopped, decorated, and donated their own supplies to create a welcoming and fun atmosphere for the girls. Our activities included manicures, pedicures, hairdos and facials. We also made a craft and made our own healthy pizza. We reflected on scripture about how we are wonderfully made and how God sees us as the beautiful young ladies we are. We finished the evening with one of our favorite Veggie Tales movies, Sweetpea, which tells the story of how the King truly sees beauty.

Youth Ministries

Planning session – The Youth Summer calendar is not out yet, but it will be hot off the press the first Sunday in June. On May 20-21 the youth leaders went to a “Nuts and Bolts” conference in Richmond which was a time of planning the ideas that youth already gave to Stephen at our checkpoint.

Book Study – On May 19th the youth parents started a new book study called Have a New Teenager by Friday. This book by Dr. Kevin Leman is proving to be a great study for parents with teens. This course will run 6-8 weeks.

World Changers - This year the 5 day trip is July 15-20 to High Point, N.C. This year the World Changers theme is “Change the City – Change the World”! (Luke 10:2 – “These were his instructions to them: ’The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, and ask him to send out more workers for his fields.’” Right now we are planning on ten teens and adults from BBC going. Please be praying for us. All participants will be attending a 4 week preparation session with Stephen B. starting June 2nd.

Welcome to Zac - We love having college kids be a part of our youth program and we have another special guy joining us this summer - Zac Kieter! He is a believer who loves to work with teens. He is studying to be a youth minister at Liberty University and has been actively involved with teens since he was one – through Young Life at his high school and helping at summer camps. Zac is a wonderful, Godly young man and is also a musician and a part of a Christian band. Welcome Zac – glad to have you with us!

GO

Sunday FellowshipEveryone is invited to have a little morning snack and a cup of coffee between first service and second service each Sunday morning. Between 10:30 and 11:00, the Fellowship Hall is full of food and fellowship. Come on down and catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

If your family or class would like to provide refreshments for a block of Sundays or a single Sunday, please contact Peggy Rider (540-439-2865). Thanks so much to those of you who are regularly bringing in dishes and goodies. If you want to bring in items, please cal Peggy ahead of time and let her know what you will be bringing.

VBS Volunteers – There are many ways that you can help with Vacation Bible School this year – one of our largest community outreach ministries. If you would like to volunteer for VBS – even if only for a couple of evenings, please let Tonya know as soon as possible. This year, VBS is June 24-28th from 6:30PM – 8:30 PM. We need extra help with registration on Monday evening. Unable to come but still want to help? Please consider donating to our Family Night Picnic on Friday evening. We will need desserts donated – there will be a sign up sheet in the fellowship hall. Also, if you would like to contribute to the cost of VBS, you may do so by marking the memo line of your check or specifying VBS on your cash envelop. Many willing hearts are needed!!!

Nursery Volunteers – The Nursery Volunteer Ministry is one of the most important ministries that we operate on Sunday mornings. The volunteers allow young parents to attend worship or Bible study with the peace of mind that their children are safe and loved while they are away. Often these parents are struggling with sleep deprivation and other obstacles that could easily cause them to avoid church, but these parents are working past those obstacles to nourish their souls. As parents, this is the most important thing that they can do for their children. As they grow in their faith, their prayers for their children grow and so does the faith of their children. We are so grateful to the volunteers that donate their time to these parents. However, we are in need of a few more volunteers. We need two volunteers for the 11:00 AM service on the first Sunday of each month. We also need two teams (two people at 9:30 and two people at 11:00) for the fifth Sunday. This only occurs a couple of times per year. Please see Tonya or drop a note in the offering plate if you can volunteer.

Feed My Sheep ministry – The Feed My Sheep Ministry is delivering food to at least 35 families each week! When you are in the store this week, please add several cans of food to your basket that you can bring to church for distribution. Food should be labeled for Feed My Sheep and left in the kitchen. Also, if you have extra produce from your garden this summer, it can be used if brought to the church at the right time. Remember that summer is a critical time for hungry children. Since they are not in school to eat breakfast and lunch, these little ones are at a greater risk of going hungry – right here where we live. Please do all you can to support this vital ministry – donate food, produce, time (Rick can always use help in packing and delivering), and gas money. For more information, contact Rick Pulver (439-3718).

Sassy Sisters Sewing Group

The Sassy Sisters Sewing Group is still meeting at Alice Boley’s for regular sewing sessions. Recently they finished making knit hats and lap blankets. Then they had a request for pillow cases for the infusion center. When 25 cases were made, Lake Poe took them to the hospital. Now they will be working on baby blankets throughout the summer. If you would like information on how to help with this important ministry (non sewers are welcome to attend – there will be tasks for you to do too) contact Jayne Hudson (439-0160) or Anna Kestner (439-4508).

Missions On March 31st, we had a wonderful visit from Peter and Nadia Kianchenko from Moscow, Russia. Peter and Nadia came to Christ about 34 years ago under the Communist Regime. At that time in the USSR, belief in God

was severely persecuted. For the first ten years, Peter paid no attention to the restrictions and continued to participate in underground Bible studies for children, preaching the gospel in churches during youth services. Nadia also served God by singing in the choir, playing a violin and teaching Sunday School toward the end of the 1980’s.

In 1991, the Kianchenko family became the first family to join the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (New Life) in Russia. In the last 20 years, the Kianchenko’s leadership team has:

Trained more than 6,000 people in methods of evangelism and discipleship

Seen 1,500 discipled Organized 5,000 follow-up groups Planted over 300 churches

Peter is now coordinator of Ethnic Minorities in the Church Leadership Movements of Russia for personal evangelism and discipleship. When they were here, the BBC family took up a love offering. BBC will be considering supporting the Kianchenko’s efforts in the future.

Vision Team Update - Keith Puffenbarger gives this update on the vision team which has met several times this year, working on the question “Are we accomplishing our mission of being a transforming church in Southern Fauquier by encouraging our congregation with the strategy/challenge of Worship, Grow, Go?” They then looked at all four teams and discussed ways to improve, finally settling on one priority for each team. The Worship Team is focusing on improving the Greeter’s Program, especially with guests who are visiting our church. The goal is to help all to have a genuine worship experience. The Discipleship Team will be working on creating a 5 week Bible Study for new Christians. The Fellowship Team is focusing on a way to engage and recognize our “long term” guests (visitors coming on a regular basis for several months) with a picnic, dinner, etc. They will be invited and in attendance will be the Deacons, Teachers, and Youth. The Outreach Team’s primary focus is VBS. Once improvement has been obtained in these four areas, they will begin working on other priorities.

Business meetings at BBC are open to everyone! These are times of seeking God’s will for BBC. This quarter the business meeting will likely be Wednesday, July 17. Please check the weekly church bulletin and plan to attend!

Building Improvement - A huge thank you goes out to Ray Boley and Wayne Corbin whose buildings and grounds efforts have not gone unnoticed. The ugly, dilapidated garage is now a beautiful, red storage building complete with poured concrete floor and locking door. There is a new sidewalk on the side entrance and fencing is being put up around the air conditioning unit to keep it safely away from the pre-schoolers in their playground. Thank you!

Finances – What a blessing to report that financially, the church is doing well at this time. Thanks to each of you who are faithfully supporting the efforts of the BBC ministries with your tithes and offerings. God is working through BBC to serve from Southern Fauquier County to Russia!

Follow-ups and Fellowship
