The release of FESTSCHRIFT in honour of our beloved Director, Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose was held on October 12, 2013 at AISAT. FESTSCHRIFT is a celebratory collection of articles in recognition of his outstanding Engineering career. His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarakal, Metropolitan Archbishop of Verapoly & Patron of AISAT released the FESTSCHRIFT by handing over to Padmabhushan National Research Professor Dr. M. V. Pylee. Dr. Babu T. Jose was the former director of CUSAT and it was he who introduced Fire and Safety, Information Technology and Marine Engineering streams into the professional education scenario in Kerala. Release of FESTSCHRIFT
Hackerspace @ AISATHackerspace was inaugurated by Mr. Varghese Daniel, CEO and founder,
Wrench Solutions Pvt. Ltd. on October 19, 2013 at AISAT. Hackerspace at
AISAT is the first of its kind in Kerala. It's a place where people can meet,
work and innovate. Hackerspace will function as centre for peer learning
and knowledge sharing, in the form of workshops, presentations, and
lectures. It provides space for members to work on their individual
projects, or to collaborate on group projects with other members. Mr.
Rahul Ramesh, CTO, Codeyssus Lab, Mr. Amrit Sanjeev, Technical
Architect, Intuit, Mr. Bobinson K. B., CEO & Founder, Agileblaze
Technologies were present during the function. The inaugural session was
followed by a talk on Google App Engine by Mr. Shashidhar Gurumurthy,
Senior Solutions Architect, Salesforce and was followed by an interactive
session on Android application development by Mr. Amrit Sanjeev.
Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose detailing the selfless contributions made by him to the professional education field in Kerala. All the articles in the FESTSCHRIFT are contributions from his students, colleagues and friends.

The office of the IEEE Kochi Subsection was inaugurated on
October 1, 2013 by Dr. A. Unnikrishnan, Associate Director,
NPOL. He delivered a talk on 'Leveraging Technologies for
better tomorrow'. Mr. Shahim Baker, Managing Director,
GREY Technolabs and Secretary, IEEE Kochi sub section,
welcomed the gathering. Dr. Suresh Nair, CTO, NEST group of
Industries and Chairman, IEEE Kochi sub section, presided
over the function. IEEE Day 2013 was inaugurated
by Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT.
The official announcement of a competition for the IEEE best
innovators award from the engineering students of colleges in
Kochi was made during the function by Mr. Paul Ansel V.,
Asst. Professor, Dept. of ECE, AISAT and VSAC, IEEE Kochi
Hub. Mr. Sabarinath G., Secretary, IEEE Kerala Section, Dr. K. E. George, Principal AISAT, Mr. Simon Akkara, Deputy Director, IT Cell, KSEB and vice
chairman, IEEE Kochi sub section, Fr. Alex Kurisuparambil, Associate Manager, AISAT and various dignitaries from industry and academia were
present. Ms. Mini Ullanat, IEEE student activities chairperson, delivered the vote of thanks.

IEEE Kochi Subsection Office Inaugurated
The HAM club at AISAT was inaugurated on October 26, 2013 by
Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT. During the
inaugural address Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery said that the
HAM club will add on a new chapter to the social commitment of
AISAT. Dr. T. K. Mani, former Principal, AISAT, Mr. Subramania
Sastri, Senior HAM, Mr. Ravichandran Nair, Senior HAM, Mr. Paul
Ansel V., HOD, Dept. of Electronics and Communication, AISAT
and Ms. Anu Antony, Faculty-in-charge, HAM Club of AISAT,
were also present.
Dr. T. K. Mani in his keynote address pointed that the amateur
radio is still relevant since it could be widely used in disaster
management as it was used during the recent disaster at
Uttarakhand. He also pointed out that a full-fledged disaster
management system for Kerala is a need of the hour and the HAM club could grow as a centre for disaster management.
Mr. Ravindran explained on various technologies in the HAM fraternity and also the various activities carried out by the HAM for the society. Mr.
Shinto, an HAM enthusiast performed a demonstration of HAM and its communication possibilities.
Rev. Fr. Alex Kurishuparambil, Associate Manager, AISAT,
inaugurated the Aquinas Research Centre at AISAT on November 11,
2013. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT, addressed the
gathering. He stressed the significance and necessity of research in
the fast changing world. He also mentioned that research and quality
of education should always go hand in hand and Aquinas Research
Centre will help all the research scholars in the college for a greater
career development. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, AISAT, Dr. K. E.
George, Principal, AISAT and faculty members were present during
the inaugural function.

HAM Club Inaugurated
AISAT in coordination with CSI Cochin Chapter and IEEE Kerala
Section organised a talk on Cyber Security on November 26, 2013.
The speaker for the session was Mr. Harjinder Singh, a Senior
Teaching Fellow at University of Warwick, UK. Prof. Dr. K. E. George,
Principal, AISAT welcomed the gathering. Mr. Singh in his session
emphasized that cyber-crimes are not just about encryptions or
algorithms, but is more about public relations. He also gave
awareness about the present day cyber-crimes, the different viruses
used for these crimes and methods to overcome the disasters caused
by them. He also explained the various security measures to be taken
against cyber-crimes. Mr. K. B. Rajasekharan, CSI Cochin
Chapter and Ms. Mini Ulanat, CSI National Student Coordinator and
Chair of Student Activities IEEE Kerala Section were also present.

The maiden college magazine –
‘Akshara’ was released on December
20, 2013. It was released by Rev. Fr.
Alex Kurisuparambil and first copy was
handed over to Dr. George Sleeba, Dean,
AISAT. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery
appreciated the efforts put in by the
students and the faculty members in
bringing out a very creative and
interesting magazine.
Christmas celebration at AISAT was held on December 20, 2013.
Ms. Mary Angela Kavya, Arts Club Secretary, welcomed the
gathering. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT and
Prof. Dr. K. E. George, Principal, AISAT, delivered their Christmas messages.
The Christmas cake was cut by Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager,
AISAT and distributed to everyone. Carol competition was held thereafter.
Prizes were distributed for the winners of Christmas Carol and card
competition. Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Riya Benny, Vice-
Chairperson, Students Union. Students participated very actively in the
competitions and the campus was filled with a festive mood.

Lumina, the Electrical and Electronics Engineering association
organised a talk on 'Illumination' on December 17, 2013. The talk
was delivered by Mr. G. Krishnakumar, Director, Empower
Management Solutions.
ACEA, the Civil Engineering Association organized a talk on the topic
'Opportunities in Civil Engineering' on December 12, 2013. The talk
was delivered by Dr. K. Balan, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering,
College of Engineering, Trivandrum.
FLAME, the Mechanical Engineering Association, organized a visit
to a senior citizens' home, The Providence House at Kacheripady,
Kochi on December 11, 2013. The visit was organised as a part of
the community service programme under Ashwas Centre.
The department of Civil Engineering organised a one-week short
term workshop on 'Finite Element Method – Applications in Civil
Engineering' from December 2 to 7, 2013. The workshop was
inaugurated by Dr. P. K. Aravindan, former Professor, IIT Madras. The
workshop included hands on training and technical lectures on the
use of CSi softwares such as E-Tabsv2013 and SAP-2000v15.
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
organized a webinar on ‘IEEE Xplore’ as a part of inauguration of the
department library on November 22, 2013. The resource person was
Mr. Dhanukumar Pattanashetti, Client Services Manager, IEEE.
ACEA, Civil Engineering Association of AISAT in co-ordination with
ICI Kochi Chapter and Samhitha Innovations Bangalore, organized a
one day deminar on Non-destructive testing of concrete and metals
on October 18, 2013. The deminar was handled by Proceq Asia pte
Ltd, Singapore.

ACEA, Civil Engineering Association of AISAT organised an
industrial visit for the third semester Civil engineering students to
Peechi dam site on October 5, 2013
EACE, Electronics and Communication Engineering Association
organised an industrial visit for the third semester ECE students to
Keltron Controls, Aroor on October 5, 2013
FLAME, the Mechanical Engineering Association, organized an
industrial visit to Carborundum Universal Limited, Electro
Minerals Division, Edapally on October 5, 2013.
Lumina, the Electrical and Electronics Engineering association
organised a talk on 'Power System' by Dr. K. K. Sasi, Professor,
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore on October 5, 2013.
An MoU was signed between IGS Kochi chapter and AISAT on
September 29, 2013 during the annual meeting of IGS Kochi
chapter held at Hotel Mercy, Kochi. Mr. M. D. Nair, Chairman, IGS
Kochi chapter and Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT,
were present at the function. The MoU will help AISAT to conduct
various technical talks and will provide research assistance in
association with IGS Kochi Chapter.
Engineers' Day was celebrated at AISAT on September 27, 2013.
Prof. G. N. Gandhi, President, Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS)
was the chief guest and delivered a talk on the topic 'Prospects of
Future Engineers'.
An all Kerala M.Tech project presentation competition in
geotechnical field was conducted at AISAT in association with
IGS, Kochi Chapter on September 27, 2013
News from faculty
Mr. Jikhil Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, presented a paper titled 'Finite Element Modelling and Ultimate Strength Prediction of CFS Plain Angle Compression Members' at the National Conference on Recent Advances in Structural Engineering (RASE-2013) held at School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, from December 12 to 15, 2013.
Ms. Priya S. Pai, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, presented a paper titled 'Dual Maximisation of Solar Power for Medium Power Applications' at the International Conference on Renewable Energy and Research Applications (ICRERA 2013) held in Madrid, Spain from October 19 to 23, 2013.
Ms. Priya S. Pai, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, presented a paper titled 'Dual Maximisation of Solar Power for Medium Power Applications' at the IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting Conference held at Orlando, Florida, USA from October 4 to 11, 2013.

'Mathematical transforms clubbed with artificial intelligence for Power Quality Disturbance classification' at the International conference on Research for advancement held at Global Institute of Science and Technology, Singapore, on October 2, 2013.
Mr. Arun Joy, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering presented the paper titled 'Low Complexity 2D Adaptive Channel Estimation for OFDM Based Two-Way Relay Systems' at NGMAST'13 held at Czech Technical University, Prague from September 25 to 27, 2013.
Mr. Neeraj Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the Best Paper Award for the paper titled 'Advanced Visualisation Techniques' at the National Conference on Technological Trends (NCTT 2013) held at College of Engineering, Trivandrum on August 30, 2013.
Mr. Stephen P. C., Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, published a paper titled 'Sustainable Mass
ndHousing with Ferrocement' in the proceedings of 2 National Convention on Ferrocement (FS 2013) held at Pune on July 13 and 14, 2013.
