    IntroductionAirorlites GPS over Fiber System sends GlobalPositioning System (GPS) signals to locationswhere synchronized timing is required but not easilyobtained. This method of optical signal processingeliminates the need for larger coaxial cables,booster amplifiers and other ancillary equipment. Inrecognition of the critical nature of these applica-tions the GPS1002 is configured with two channelsto support redundant communications. A ModelGPS1002 GPS over Fiber System, consists of thefollowing: (1) Remote Unit (GPS1002T) (1) Base Unit (GPS1002R) (2) AC Power Supply (GPS1002PS) optional

    (2) Antenna (GPS1002A) - optionalNote: Single channel models are available byspecial order.

    The system is powered by -48 Vdc. Optionally a120 Vac to -48 Vdc weather resistant power con-verter is available for applications where -48 Vdc isnot present in the application.

    OperationThe GPS1002 System operates between a GPSAntenna and Receiver. The Remote unit provides

    5 Vdc power to a powered antenna and monitorsthe current drawn by the antenna to confirm properoperation. The Remote Unit receives GPS satellitesignals from the antenna and converts them to anoptical signal that is transmitted through a single-mode fiber optic cable. The base unit detects theoptical signal and converts it back to a radiofrequency (RF) signal that is usable by a GPSreceiver.

    ApplicationIdeal for any application that requires synchronizedtiming. Cell Sites, Trunked Radio Systems, Securityand SCADA Systems normally all require someform of synchronized control.
