Developing a diverse workforce
Page 2
Airbus is committed to increasing the percentage of female employment to 25% in 2013 and working hard to achieve this goal.
Airbus UK have set up a women’s network to raise the importance of gender balance throughout the organisation.
Current female graduates, apprentices and professional female engineers, take an active role in promoting STEM subjects to girls in school and acting as role models.
However, numbers of female apprentice applicants still remain comparatively low, in line with the low number of girls taking STEM subjects to A-level.
20% of our DEGs will be female this year however only10% of the new apprenticeship intake are female.
In England and Wales there is a specific deficit of girls taking Physics A-Level. Only 20% of Physics A level students are female.
In 2014 there were only 187 females in Wales and 4075 in England who achieved grades A*-B in A-Level physics to meet the criteria for an Airbus apprenticeship.
