QUICK DONNING MASKThe quick-donning (less than 5 sec) oxygen maskconsists of:

(a) A harness inflated by a manual control lever, which is used simultaneously to remove the mask from its housing and inflate the harness enabling the mask to be donned.

(b) A demand regulator with the three following functions:- air (oxygen dilution or 100% pure oxygen according to altitude).- 100% oxygen without overpressure.

- 100% oxygen with overpressure. The first two functions are ensured by the NORMAL 100% selector with positive locking onthe 100% position, the last one by an emergencyrotation knob (when pressed: intermittent continuous flow, when turned: continuous flow).

(c) A face piece, which is tightly applied on the face, and includes a high level dynamic type microphone with a built-in preamplifier. Oxygensupply to the mask remains ensured if after removing the mask assembly from the stowagebox, the LH flap is closed again. In this case, awhite flag with OXY ON indication appears to theright of the left flap. In this case, oxygen supplycan be turned off when returning the mask to thestowage box, or even if the mask remains outsidethe stowage box, by momentarily moving the control slide downwards, which prevents the flagfrom appearing.

EMERGENCY OXYGEN

Lavatory Emergency Oxygen

The chemical oxygen generator is a sodium-chloratecore installed in a stainless-steel housing. A thermalinsulating material is used between the core and thehousing. The chemical generator actuator is a spring-loaded striker and a percussion cap installed at oneend of the housing. A pull-pin holds the striker awayfrom the cap. A lanyard connects the pull-pin to theoxygen mask. A filter assembly is installed in the outletend of the housing to prevent contamination of theoxygen supply. A flexible hose connects the oxygenmask to the outlet manifold. The oxygen mask gets itsoxygen supply from the outlet. The outlet is installedon the housing. A relief valve is installed at the outletend of the housing. This will prevent a high pressurebuild-up if a failure of the outlet valve occurs. Atemperature sensitive indicator tape is installed on thehousing. The process of generating oxygen creates afairly high temperature, this causes the indicator tapeto change color from yellow to black. A black indicatortape signals that this chemical oxygen generator hasbeen used. The oxygen mask is a face cone with areservoir bag attached. The inhale, exhale and dilutervalves are installed the face cone. A flow indicator isinstalled in the flexible hose connected to the oxygenmask. The flow indicator will show a green stripe whenthere is an oxygen flow.

The electrical door latch assembly holds the doorof the emergency oxygen container closed.Spring pressure will open the door when theelectrical latch assembly is electrically released.A door stop is installed in the emergency oxygencontainer to permit the inspection and testing forthe emergency oxygen container. The door stopis turned through 90 degrees to permit the doorto open a few degrees and will prevent the maskfrom falling out. The door can be openedmanually with a release tool, via an access holeto release the electrical latch assembly.

The altitude switch closes when the cabinpressure drops to a pressure equivalent of 14000+0/ -500 ft. This operates the emergency oxygensupply system.

The MAN OVRD pushbutton switch (14WR)serves as a backup or override for the altitudeswitching circuit. A safety guard is fitted over theswitch.

PORTABLE OXYGEN CYLINDER

The oxygen source consists of a high pressure oxygencylinder. The cylinder is located in the flightcompartment and held in place by quick-releasebrackets. The cylinder has a capacity of 11 cu.ft.charged to 1800 psig at 21°C (70°F). The cylinder isequipped with a valve assembly including the followingcomponents:

(1) A direct reading pressure gage indicating the cylinder pressure.

(2) A high pressure relief valve, with a safety burst disc in case overpressure occurs in the cylinderdue to abnormal rise of temperature. The pressurelimit is 2700 to 3000 psig.

(3) A rotating type ON/OFF valve which controls theoxygen flow entering the high pressure chamberof the pressure regulation mechanism.

(4) A charging valve directly connected to the highpressure chamber of the pressure regulation mechanism and which enables the cylinder to befilled through the ON/OFF valve with a controlledflow. The charging speed must not exceed 300 psi/min.

(5) A pressure control mechanism which ensures pressure regulation to a pressure between 35 and85 psig.

(6) A low pressure relief valve with a check valve calibrated to limit all excessive pressure between 90 psig -beginning of opening and 135 psig -fully open.

(7) A demand regulator enabling an oxygen flow, generated by the negative pressure in the oxygen mask during the inhalation phase, to be obtained from a standard supply point.

(8) A constant flow outlet, not to be used by the flight crew.
