In 1932 J.R.D Tata who was a Indian businessman known for his pioneering spirit supported the aviator Nevill Vincent’s brainchild to come up with mail flights connecting Bombay to Colombo that were to be connected to the United Kingdom through the Imperial Airlines. This was the foundation stone of Air India which was earlier known as Tata Airlines.

Made up of one Puss Moth Aircraft and One Leopard Moth and very few employees Tata Airlines flagged off their services and made a profit of 60,000 Indian rupees in their first fiscal year according to the New York Times
