opportunity for one of them to win an Apple iPad 2.

“At this year’s AIMEX, initiatives such as our themed days and Frontliner focus are designed to open up the exhibition to new classes of visitors involved in the mining industry, and encourage them to come along to the show,” Reed Mining Events exhibition director Paul Baker said.

“Each day will include information and networking sessions, which will be free for visitors to attend.

“In addition, our safety and careers and training days will incorporate information sessions relevant to these topics.

“Safety and skills shortages are of course key areas for the mining industry, which is why we are focusing on these.

“Women in mining – which will be an element of all Reed Mining Events in the future – is aimed at encouraging more women into the mining industry, as well as ensuring it continues to develop a culture where they feel welcome and comfortable working.

“Our innovation in mining day will provide an opportunity for exhibitors to present their latest mining technology innovations, and highlight them to visitors from an Australian and international audience.

“We are in the process of finalising arrangements for each of our theme days, and full details will be announced shortly.”

An even bigger showWIth unprecedented exhibitor demand for space at AIMEX, Reed Mining Events has released a further 1000 square metres, making room for an additional 50 exhibitors.

“This year’s exhibition will have more than 550 exhibiting companies, covering more than 45,000 square metres, making it nearly 20 per cent larger than the previous edition of AIMEX in 2007,” Baker said.

“It will be a unique gathering in a single location of mining products and services from around Australia and throughout the world – and the largest-ever trade exhibition, for any industry sector ever held in Australia.

Baker said that as with AIMEX 2007, a significant number of exhibitors would be using AIMEX 2011 to launch products and services – not just to the Australian market, but in many cases to the global market.

“That, combined with the fact that we have a large number of companies who have never exhibited at AIMEX before, means that visitors can be assured of learning about new products and services they have not previously seen,” he said.

Baker said visitors to AIMEX 2011 were strongly encouraged to register in advance.

The fastest way to pre-register is by visiting the AIMEX website, which can be found at www.aimex.com.au.

“Pre-registration is an easy way to fast-track your entry to the exhibition by avoiding the queues we expect for AIMEX 2011,” he said.

“Visitors who pre-register can bring a print-out of their email confirmation to

the show to pick up their visitor badges.”to cope with the anticipated number of

visitors, AIMEX 2011 will again have two separate entry points.

In addition to the entry just outside the Dome, an additional entry point has been established within the howie Pavilion, giving visitors access from both sides of the venue.

This will allow those visitors who park at parking area P6, on Australia Avenue, direct access to the exhibition.

In addition, shuttle buses will be on hand from the main parking centre P1 to deliver visitors to either entrance, depending on their preferences and the length of the queues at each entry point.

Once within AIMEX, pre-registered visitors who may be pushed for time can take advantage of Reed Exhibitions’ “matchmaker” service, Baker said.

“All visitors who pre-register have the opportunity to indicate their areas of particular interest,” he said.

“We then provide them with a list of AIMEX exhibitors who are offering products and services within these interests.

“We have found this service – which is unique to Reed Mining Events – is of great assistance to time-poor visitors who need to focus on certain products and services.”

Meet the buyerFOR larger mining houses, Reed Mining Events is again offering its “meet the buyer” program. This allows exhibitors to sit down with representatives of major buyers for a one-on-one presentation.

Visitors to AIMEX will also have access to a free Wi-Fi Lounge where they can check emails, meet with colleagues and supplier representatives, or take some timeout from the show.

Drummers, clowns, pretty girls in excavator buckets. ey have all been tried. So has free food and drink. Does it work?

With the 2011 Asia-Paci c’s International Mining Exhibition looming ever closer this bears thinking about. e key, of course, is to attract the right visitors to the booth and hold them there.

A er all, visitors are a nite number. Getting them to come to a stand and then stay for a chat is the challenge that befalls many an exhibitor.

Getting equipment to these shows is not cheap either. One equipment maker ran the numbers on getting a machine to AIMEX and found there would not be an awful lot of change out of $200,000.

It can cost about $20,000 just to clean and detail a dump truck to get it on show. At one event a LeTourneau loader on display was sporting a very fetching, but de nitely not-stock, chrome header system. at loader had to be delivered to a customer straight a er that show so the headers had to be removed and replaced with stock items before that could be done. Not a cheap exercise.

So why do companies do it? Do they get so many sales that it is worthwhile?

To many, attendance at these trade shows is

a brand building exercise as much as anything. To be seen to be seen.

at said, one exhibitor at the recent Mining & Engineering Western Australia show said he had one client come by and the discussion had led to some quotes.

A er being to several such industry events of varying sizes here is a breakdown of some of the more spectacular things Australia’s Mining Monthly has seen. At Minexpo, the general theme seemed to be to go large. Well, Las Vegas is that sort of town.

Take the Caterpillar stand, for example:

a 797, a 795, and a 777 truck, a 993 loader, an AD55B underground truck, an R2900 undergound loader, a D11 dozer, an autonomous display and a theatre. Good to see a subtle approach taken to a show.

Around the corner from Cat was Komatsu, which featured an excavator and “display” (see picture over the page).

AIMEX is not quite on that scale but not far below it either. About four years ago visitors were treated to a Taiko drummer, a tapdogsesque dance troupe and some pretty innovative displays to draw them in.

Best in showGetting the right people to come to a stand is the challenge for many an exhibitor. Noel Dyson looks at some of the methods that have worked in the past.

Big equipment too. Atlas Copco is a company that never wastes a thing. It used every inch of its stand and virtually every inch of the air above it too to put a drill on show. A truly stunning effort.

The Taiko drummer was truly impressive. The tap dogs, well they tapped ... a lot. But it did draw attention.

One of the standouts, though, was a clever little play by a conveyor maker to use a model of one of its systems to simply load, convey and unload lollies.

They were very nice lollies, too. So much so that before lunchtime on one day the cycle was starting to unravel with passersby swiping the lollies from the belt before they could get to the unload point.

Certainly kept the punters there. In more recent times AIMEX organiser

Reed Mining Events held M&E WA at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.

This is a very new show. In horse parlance they would say it is still on wobbly legs.

AMM conducted a diligent, indepth survey of the stands at M&E WA, (okay it was several circuits of the expo). This showed that every exhibitor had gone above and beyond to put up a well turned-out display.

Indeed, many were using it as a dry run for AIMEX.

Some had bright flashing lights to draw attention. Admittedly most of these sold bright flashing lights so that was probably a bit of a home ground advantage for them – but it certainly worked.

That aside, there were several that stood out for putting up something little bit different.

Conveyor maintenance specialist ESS had an impressive working unit on display. What better way to demonstrate its services? Indeed, it had people on hand to do just that.

Of course, being an electrically-driven unit gave ESS an advantage. It was harder for exhibitors such as Minprovise to fire up its diesel-driven Duggie (no, that is not a euphemism). Perth’s barn on the Swan has a strict no internal combustion policy, which obviously also extends to diesels.

On the “attract them to the stand” side of things – particularly given the cold temperatures Perth has suffered lately – it was hard to go past the Thiess stand.

Thiess wisely put a barista on its stand. Good coffee too. The jelly beans on offer were not half bad either.

Pacific MI had something for those with a more sporting bent. Amid its bright white stand it had a simulated putting green. Not a bad way to break the ice with prospective customers.

Generation Xers were even catered for. American Express – which was pushing its transaction services – had a Wii set up.

So as the sun set on the very first M&E – to be fair the final day had been pretty cloudy and the sun had not really put in much of an appearance – it seemed appropriate to turn to the words of Jackson Browne:

“Now the seats are all empty Let the roadies take the stage Pack it up and tear it down They’re the first to come and last to leave.”And in the minds of some of the exhibitors

that have had a great turnout the thought will be:

“Oh won’t you stay, just a little bit longer ...”And on the Gen-Xers still stuck on the

Wii, that entire Jackson Browne reference has probably been lost.

AN INNOVATIVE cable and pipe support system, along with industrial walkway and access solutions suitable for the mining industry will be on show on Stand R184 at AIMEX.

Korvest, which is putting these devices on show, is a divisional company. It consists of Ezystrut cable and pipe support systems, Indax industrial access systems, and Korvest Galvanisers, with operations across Australia and the Pacific Rim.

One of its most recent products is Australia’s first cable support ladder complying with the AS3013:2005 Australian fire rating.

“Our EzyStrut fire-rated cable ladder is a new concept in fire-rated cable support products in Australia,” Ezystrut general manager Chris Hartwig said.

“Korvest’s engineers developed this ladder to maintain form for two hours at 1050C.

“There is huge potential for projects to use our cable support system complying with AS3013:2005, as it allows us to customise a fire-rated solution to clients’ exact requirements.”

Korvest’s Indax division will also be part of the display, showcasing its walkway, self-closing gates, and stanchion handrail systems.

“Indax fabricates our range of grating, handrail products and access system solutions from prime quality materials and to recognised industry standards,” Indax general manager Andrew Ifkovich said.

“All our handrail and grating systems are fabricated to AS1657 and to welding standards AS1554.1 for mild steel and AS1665 for aluminium.”

Ifkovich said the company is continually investing in people, processes and technology to meet the growing demand for its walkway systems and associated products.

“We have a dedicated drafting team with extensive experience in dealing with handrails, grating and walkway system solutions,” he said.

“All our grating layouts are designed to the AS1657 standard and designed to be the most economical fit without compromising requirements or design standards.”

WELL not exactly. Occupational health and safety regulations will no doubt prevent Hyundai Construction Equipment Australia from actually ring up its RC1200LC-9.

But it will not stop it from putting its largest excavator yet – a 120 tonne behemoth – on show, at least in the abstract, at this year’s AIMEX from September 6-9.

On stand 0210 Hyundai will pull the covers from its latest o ering. But with the rst of these due to hit Australian shores by the end of

September, HCEA will use AIMEX to promote the machine with photos, literature and speci cations.

“ e highly anticipated R1200LC-9 joins an elite lineup of other excavators in this class … and gives customers a genuine alternative to their existing brands in the range,” HCEA marketing manager Robert Pearson said.

e excavator is the latest addition to Hyundai’s Dash 9 family and features Hyundai’s Hi-Mate remote management system.Hi-Mate uses GPS technology to enable users to remotely evaluate machine performance, access diagnostic information and verify machine location.

Hyundai has announced that its stand will have a dedicated Hi-Mate testing area to demonstrate the power of this tool.

e Dash 9 series also incorporates a 175 millimetre full colour, high-resolution display on the cabin console that makes it easy to check all critical systems and to manage and operate the machine and Hyundai’s innovative hydraulic system.

A 30-tonne wheel loader, the HL780-9, will be another highlight of HCEA’s AIMEX stand.

is recent addition to the Dash 9 lineup has a Cummins QSM11 engine, 5.4 cubic metre bucket, climate-control cabin and a fully automatic power shi transmission.

HCEA o ers a variety of tailored equipment solutions for quarry and mining operations Australia-wide.

e company has a dealer network covering Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. e dealers are all focused on providing technical knowledge that will help customers acquire the best possible solution for their operational needs.

At AIMEX Hyundai will also, in conjunction with its dealer network, showcase its comprehensive suite of tailored service solutions for its construction equipment.

“ is platinum service platform has been speci cally tailored to deliver a service package option matched to a customer’s requirements and equipment with a capped price and guarantee,” Pearson said.

COLLISION avoidance is becoming a massive issue in the mining sector.

Fortunately most of the reports lately have been of near misses, mostly involving light vehicles versus large haul trucks. In these sort of cases the good news has been that the driver of the light vehicle has o en required little more than a change of trousers.

However, there remains the potential for a much worse outcome.Because of this there has been a long-held view in the mining

industry that anything that can be done to prevent vehicle-vehicle or, even worse, vehicle-personnel, collisions should be done.

Two of the exhibitors at this year’s AIMEX will put on show their solutions to this pressing problem.

Becker Mining Systems Australia, on Stand 322, will be putting on show its recently launched collision avoidance and proximity detection system.

is features triple-detection technology to warn people of nearby vehicles, alert vehicle operators that people are close, and warn vehicle operators of other stationary or moving vehicles that are nearby.

e system, which uses UHF RFID, radar RFID and electromagnetic technology, can be con gured to easily establish coverage zones for vehicles of varying sizes.

Mine Radio Systems is showcasing what it calls a cost-e ective and robust technology for collision avoidance, monitoring and reporting on Stand S162.

e MRS Solarian collision prevention solution uses transponders to collect vital tracking information. It then alerts personnel and vehicle drivers of approaching dangers with audible and visual alarms.

An adjustable detection range and real-time reporting capabilities enhance the system’s appeal.

e Solarian system can be integrated with other MRS communication systems or can be deployed as a stand-alone unit. It can be easily installed or relocated.

“Mining and tunnelling collisions can result in major production losses, costly repairs and equipment purchases, injuries and/or fatalities so collision prevention protocols are vital,” MRS managing director Graeme Corbett said.

“ e Solarian overcomes the performance limitations and high costs associated with other technologies to deliver the reliable collision avoidance coverage necessary to establish and maintain critical monitoring of personnel and assets.

“It means personnel injuries or deaths, vehicle collisions and lost productivity are no longer a concern for mining and tunnelling operators.”

MRS, which has been supplying communication technology to the mining and tunnelling industries for 25 years, has under-taken more than 400 installations at mining and tunnelling sites

Besides its collision avoidance technology, Becker also will be displaying its Endis boltless-door, ameproof distribution control board.

Endis switchgear has no terminal compartments, with plug-in modules replacing switches, contactors and discrete monitoring technology.

“ ere are no conventional disconnecting switches; instead every plug-in unit is part of the disconnecting device,” Becker Mining managing director Tony Napier said.

Napier said the compact station consisted of four compartments with EExd ameproof protection. Two were switchgear compartments with power bus technology, along with a mounting compartment for the lighting transformer and a connecting compartment for the supply lines.

e DCB’s modular design enabled it to switch up to 12 motor outputs while all eight modules had to be disconnected before the boltless door could be opened, he said.

Becker Mining will also use AIMEX to demonstrate its voice and data communications platforms. ese include radio systems, IS-approved radios/equipment, WiFi networking, microwave and data communications.

A different kind of press

AIMEX Preview

101

IN SPORTING circles there has been a lot of talk of presses lately. Forward presses, half court presses and even a full press.

All are being employed with varying degrees of success.

In the mining game the talk will be on hydraulic membrane filter presses, at least, that is, if Shandong Jingjin Environmental Protection Equipment Co. has its way.

The company is promoting its hydraulic membrane filter press for the mining industry on Stand R120 during AIMEX.

Described by the Chinese company as highly efficient and quick opening, one of the presses is already in use at an Australian copper mine.

“This kind of filter press can shift all filter plates at one time and the speed is very fast, about six cycles an hour,” Shandong Jingjin’s Jack Lee said. That meant energy savings and low maintenance costs, he said.

The main components of the press are a filter frame, filter plates, filter cloths, a hydraulic power unit, an electrical cabinet, an

automatic plate shifting cylinder, an automatic cloth washing system and an automatic drip tray.

Lee said the advantages of the press included: it could be programmed to operate unattended; it used plates made of TPE elastomer, fibreglass and polypropylene for flexibility and toughness; and it had automatic

feeding, squeezing, air blowing and cake washing features. As well, the filter plates’ parallel error is lower than 25 micrometres, ensuring excellent sealing when pressing and no leakage when feeding, he said.

Established in 1988, Shandong Jingjin has more than 5000 employees and exports to 123 countries.

HYDAC is showcasing a high-pressure filter, with a Dp-optimised filter head for reversible oil flow on Stand 3907-01 during AIMEX.

Its high pressure DFF filter’s design is said to give reliable separation of the dirty and clean sides due to leak-proof poppet valves in the head. According to Hydac, this is a significant development, as filters using sleeve

valves are not completely leak proof and allow a constant stream of contamination to reach the clean side.

The company says the filter, which is suited to high-flow volumes, also offers reduced energy costs and a long service life. It is available in sizes DFF 330, 500, 660, 990 and 1320.

Hydac will also release a mobile control monitor for off-road vehicles at AIMEX. The 10.4 inch monitor is said to offer optimal readability in any lighting conditions and has a water and dust-resistant IP 65 aluminium die-cast housing.

Hydac says the monitor’s seven programmable control keys and three navigation keys make it an easy-to-use human-machine interface.

An Atex oil-air cooler with a frequency of 60 Hertz and classified for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere will be another innovation on Hydac’s AIMEX stand. This type of cooler, an addition to the company’s 50Hz range, is used mainly in offshore applications.

Hydac will also use AIMEX to demonstrate a diesel pre-care filter for optimum diesel fuel conditioning. This cartridge filter system, available with either manual water discharge or automatic discharge, increases both reliability and machine life, Hydac says.

Benefits of the filter include low diesel residues being left in the filter element during service and a reliable radial seal.

Got brass in pocketAKRON Brass is unveiling a range of manual, joystick-controlled and PLC controlled/robotic water cannons and fire-fighting nozzles on Stand 925 during AIMEX. The company is planning a “dynamic” AIMEX display, featuring a series of severe-duty water cannons.

Akron’s 3491 12 or 24 volt electric cannon and its 3492 hydraulic model have stainless steel waterways and are available with fog/jet style nozzles.

A PLC/robotic controlled severe-duty cannon for automatically washing down mining equipment or processing facilities will also be on display.

The system can be programmed to a desired sweep pattern. For example, it could wash a large haul truck in about 15 minutes, as opposed to one to two hours. “This means the trucks aren’t out of operation for as long, reducing the need for more trucks in a fleet while others are being washed,” Akron’s Nick Foran said.

Another highlight will be the 3542 Omega water cannon. “This system does not require external greasing of swivel joints, as they are fully sealed and protected from mine water,” Foran said.

FORCE 10 International will showcase its quick-build, robust, durable and environmentally friendly buildings for mining camps on Stand H1163 during AIMEX.

Designed for use in remote regions, Force 10 buildings are engineered to withstand Force 10 winds of more than 300 kilometres per hour, cyclones, res, oods and earthquakes.

e modular Force 10 system comprises galvanized and insulated steel oor, wall and roof components, all tested to comply with Australia’s CSIRO guidelines as well as those of BRANZ (New Zealand), the US Architectural Testing Service and Veritas, France.

Company representative Jane Murphy said Force 10 components locked together easily and smoothly and buildings were erected easily and quickly, making the system ideal for remote locations. Force 10 was building in remote Western Australia, Queensland, the Northern Territory and mining regions in South Australia, she said.

“Our range is ideal for Australia’s dry conditions as it complies with the country’s

highest re rating, the bush re attack level ame zone, introduced as a result of the 2009 Victorian Black Saturday bush res,” Murphy said. “Consequently, Force 10 is one of the most re-resistant building products available in Australia.”

Force 10 also performed extremely well in the recent Queensland oods, Murphy said.

“ e advantage of the Force 10 system is that it incorporates bre-cement walls that can be simply washed with a standard water-pressure cleaner if ooded,” she said.

Force 10 also boasts clean and green credentials such as:• An energy rating of up to 9½ stars;• Exceptionally low volatile organic

compound emissions;• Fully insulated walls, oors and roofs;• Capacity for a non-concrete footing system

in an eco-sensitive environment;• Complete termite protection, eliminating

the need for chemical treatments;• Little or no site wastage; and• Extremely rapid construction.

AlcoA Fastening Systems is featuring what it describes as “the next generation in lock-bolting” on Stand SG21 during AIMEX.

Maintenance in the mining game is often a trade-off between getting things to stay together and also making them able to come apart.

A trip through a workshop on a mine site can be an eye-opener. It seems many disassembly tasks involve a couple of blokes, some sledgehammers and lots of swearing.

That of course depends on the size of the object being disassembled. The size of the tools would no doubt vary if the item in question was the wheel on a grader as opposed to the fastenings holding a circuit board in place.

No matter, having something that holds when needed and releases when wanted is invaluable.

The Huck Bobtail fastening system has no pintail, offers fast installation and lighter tooling and is totally vibration resistant, according to Alcoa fastening systems manager – mining, rail, oil & gas Glen

Woodrow. “The outcome is the highest level of performance and reliability,” he said.

“We have complemented this system with a simple removal device for disassembling the fastener when mining equipment maintenance was required.”

The Huck Bobtail fastener is available in class 8.8 and 10.9 metric M12 through to M20 and imperial grade 1/2 inch through to 1 inch diameter.

Alcoa Fastening Systems describes itself as a world leader in the development of specialised fasteners for a wide range of mining applications.

It is part of the global Alcoa group. The group is most associated with

aluminium and has 60,000 employees at 200 locations in 31 countries.

Melbourne-headquartered Alcoa Fastening Systems Australia also has offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Singapore and representation in Jakarta to service the mining industry throughout Australia, the Pacific and South East Asia.

SEW-EURODRIVE plans to make a big impression with its heavy-duty drive technologies on Stand 1311 at AIMEX.

The company will exhibit innovations from its range of gear units, geared motors and complete drive assemblies. These units have all been designed for heavy-duty applications with high-transmitted loads, making them ideal for mining, mineral processing and quarrying processes. According to SEW-Eurodrive industrial gears national product manager Ian Tribe, the modularity and high-power density of the company’s industrial gear-unit range makes it effective and versatile in a diverse range of mining applications.

“Our gear-unit offering delivers extremely compact and versatile drive options for Australia’s natural resources and heavy engineering industries,” he said.

“Additionally, their ability to withstand harsh operating environments make our motor and drive solutions suitable for all of Australia’s mineral/ore bulk handling and processing operations.”

A particular point of interest on SEW-Eurodrive’s stand will be the company’s Australian-assembled X-Series gear units.

“This series boasts the finest torque graduation on the market, allowing users to closely match a unit to applications ranging

from conveyor systems to ball mills and agitators,” he said.

“This means unrivalled gear-unit choice and flexibility for the mining industry.”

The X-Series range is available in 15 sizes with torque ratings from 58 kilonewton-metres to 475kNm.

Also at AIMEX, SEW-Eurodrive will show the X-Series’ smaller stable mate, the MC Compact Series.

Offered with the option of an extended bearing distance and reinforced output, the range is available in seven sizes, rated from 6-48kNm.

“The EBD version, which is normally assembled as a parallel vertical shaft design, provides freedom in system design as it requires remarkably little space,” Tribe said.

“This makes it ideal for mixing, agitating and thickener applications.”

In addition to these individual gear units, SEW-Eurodrive will display complete drive assemblies for heavy industry.

These comprise a gear unit, motor, drive

base and guardings with all components closely matched for maximum performance and e ciency.

“One thing our customers don’t want is to have to go from supplier to supplier to order each component,” Tribe said.

“We engineer and assemble complete drive assemblies in order to provide ease of ordering and an e cient end system.”

Tribe said one of the greatest bene ts of the SEW-Eurodrive industrial gear range was availability.

“Australian assembly, modular design and extensive local stock holdings means orders can be supplied within weeks, rather than customers waiting months for units from overseas,” he said.

“ is is a huge advantage.”

DUST is becoming one of the unsung issues in the mining sector. It can pose both safety and environmental challenges.

Tecpro Australia reckons it has some answers. It will unveil innovative dust suppression products for the mining industry on Stand R176.

On show for the rst time in Australia will be the Elefante and Gira a fog makers from Italian company Idrotech SrI. ey are ideal for suppressing dust that is being generated a long distance away or is spread over a large area or both.

e 2.4m-high Elefante uses a powerful fan to shoot billions of small water droplets into the air and projects them a distance of up to 60 metres.

e direction of the plume of mist can be xed to go in a certain direction or can be set to automatically rotate backwards and forwards through an arc of 340 degrees.

e fan has a 660 millimetre diameter. e droplets are produced by 156 misting

nozzles mounted in three spray rings on the exit from the fan. e nozzles can be sized to suit the dust suppression/water requirements of a particular application.

Tecpro’s Graeme Cooper said the smaller Gira a o ered the same advantages and was great for suppressing dust or neutralising odours on minesites, building sites, and other open spaces, or inside large buildings.

Depending on the model, the Gira a can reach a maximum height of 5 metres and project a plume of spray up to 25m.

It has a rotation angle of 340 degrees with an elevation range of -20 deg to +45 deg and uses 64 nozzles mounted in 2 spray rings to produce the mist.

e fan diameter is 410mm.“Using the Idrotech Fog makers makes it

simpler to comply with various environmental

requirements as, by suppressing fugitive airborne dust over a large area, they minimise the dispersion of dust to neighbouring areas, thereby reducing dust pollution,” Cooper said.

Two Idrotech product specialists from Europe, Tommaso Gazzignato and Marco Ferrarese, will be on the Tecpro stand at AIMEX. Both are highly experienced with Idrotech’s high-pressure dust suppression products, including the Elefante and Gira a fog makers, and will be ready to discuss visitors’ dust suppression problems.

Tecpro will also use AIMEX to highlight:• e Idrotech range of high pressure dust

suppression misting nozzles and pumps which are suitable for mounting around crushers and conveyor transfer points where minimum water volume is to be used to suppress fugitive dust;

• A lightweight washdown gun – light at 440 grams but heavy duty and ergonomic – for all types of cleaning tasks. It has a 12.5mm BSP Swivel inlet;

• A washdown gun – red rather than conventional blue, with the colour acting as a visual warning for workers that a particular hose is carrying hot water. It has a 12.5mm BSP Swivel inlet;

• e Ramex range of heavy duty, stainless steel, spring retracting hose reels; and

• e SIME range of stockpile sprinklers, built to handle the high pressures (more than 1000 kilopascals) commonly foundin the mining industry.Tecpro also will feature a unique dust

suppression nozzle assembly at the exhibition. e assembly, which is due to be launched just before AIMEX, has been developed by Tecpro over a two and a half year period, with the support of the CSIRO Department of Mining, the Australian Coal Association, and the University of Wollongong.

Founded in 1982, Tecpro Australia specialises in providing technical solutions for dust suppression and spray nozzle problems, as well as spray systems design, consulting, and product supply.

FLIR Systems is unveiling at AIMEX an infrared camera for identifying leaks of dangerous greenhouse gases.

The GasFindIR LW camera can deliver real-time thermal images of gases such as sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which is used to prevent arcing in high-voltage circuit breakers and gas-insulated substation equipment, FLIR said.

However, the company said, if SF6 leaked into the atmosphere from faulty or ageing equipment, it could contribute to global warming – with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change describing SF6 as the most potent greenhouse gas it had evaluated.

The GasFindIR LW camera is designed to locate the smallest of leaks in hot, cold and normal environments and is dust and splash proof.

FLIR also will release a series of hand-held thermal imaging cameras with features such as WiFi, Bluetooth connection and a touch screen, complemented by an iPhone app, at AIMEX.

For use in the predictive maintenance and building inspection IR areas, the E-Series cameras offer resolutions from 19,200 pixels to 76,800 pixels, weigh as little as 800 grams and are tested to maintain accuracy after a 2 metre fall onto concrete.

According to FLIR Systems Australia managing director Roger Christiansz the compact cameras represent “the best performing value-for-money IR cameras available and are made tough to stand the rigours, shocks and vibrations of daily use”.

FLIR also is unveiling thermal imaging T-Series T620 and T640 cameras. These have 307,200 infrared pixel resolution, easy up or down tilting along a 120 degree range of motion, a 3.5 inch touch screen and WiFi connectivity.

“These advanced models will give expert thermographers the tools they need to work quickly, accurately and efficiently in industrial, utility, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) and building diagnostics settings,” Christiansz said.

FLIR Systems will be on stand H1155 at AIMEX.

Oscilloscopes aboundFLUKE Australia is putting on show what it describes as the world’s first portable four-channel oscilloscopes engineered for harsh environments on Stand B1018 during AIMEX.

The Fluke ScopeMeter 190 Series 11 handheld scopes feature four input channels. These channels are fully isolated from each other to undertake differential floating measurements, a critical consideration for trouble shooting fixed installation three-phase power electronic devices such as variable speed motor drives.

They also are designed to test inverter power electronic technology used in green energy generation and transportation applications.

The scopes are safety rated for Cat III 1000 volt/Cat IV 600V environments. They also carry the International Protection -51 dust and drip proof rating, making them suited to industrial and field environments.

In particular, the four channels enable users to solve problems, such as signal amplitude or shape variations, by simultaneously inspecting input signals, output signals, feedback loops or safety interlocks.

Fluke’s AIMEX stand will also feature free SmartView software upgrades for life with the purchase of its Ti32 thermal imager which the company says delivers unprecedented performance for trouble-shooting and preventative maintenance of electrical installations.
