Limiting Factor

• A factor that limits the number or living things that can survive

• Limit the size of the population• Control the type of organisms that live in an

area

Abiotic Limiting Factors

• Non Living Limiting Factors• Examples: light, water, nutrients or minerals,

oxygen, temperature, space and weather• Human activities can also limit the growth of

populations use of pesticides, use of herbicides and habitat destruction

Biotic Limiting Factors• Living limiting factors• Examples: competitors, predators,

decomposers, parasites, disease, etc.

Competition

• Competition between organisms of the same species intraspecific competition

• Competition between organisms of different species interspecific competition

• Competitors could be biotic limiting factors
