Foreword by our President

Name: Roberto Benabid Studies: Current Position: Local Committee President AIESEC Experience: Vice President Finance (2012-2013) Finance Member (2011-2012)

Motivation: The previous term I was active as Vice President Finance 13-14. It was an amazing year and a wonderful experience that changed my life completely. During this year I grew as an AIESEC’er and understood more and more what the organization was actually about “giving other people a life-changing experience while going trough an enriching rollercoaster of life-changing experience yourself”. I really believe in these words and felt that I could offer even more the organization. That’s why I choose to run for president 14-15 during the executive board elections, which I’ve actually obtained after surviving these elections. Local Committee President: As president of AIESEC UA you have a wide-range of various job responsibilities. First of all I have the ultimate responsibility of everything that happens in AIESEC so I need to make sure that everything runs smoothly, that every AIESEC’er at AIESEC UA feels at home, that the Executive boards is working together and fulfill tasks like they should be done, etc. Secondly I have to bring the strategic component within AIESEC UA, I need to make sure we follow a path that is sustainable in order to grow as an organization. Thirdly I am also responsible for the communication with the national level of AIESEC and the other student organizations in Antwerp in order to make sure that we are all on the same level and confusions can be avoided. As president you have a lot of things going on but if you enjoy it, it is a small effort. Join our organization and find out what opportunities are there for you!

The idea behind AIESEC started in the 1930s, when representatives from schools across Europe exchanged information about various programs and schools that specialized in business and economics. Students were carrying out internships in other countries, but mostly on their own initiative, and it all came to a standstill with the onslaught of World War II. In 1948 though, delegates Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden founded AIESEC in Liège, Belgium. In 1949 already 89 students participated in the so-called "Stockholm Congress", the first of many exchange programs.

Soon AIESEC became popular: by the end of 1960 already 2,467 exchanges were reported, and 4,232 by the end of 1970. A landmark in AIESEC history was the “International Theme Program” that officially established all international, regional, and local seminars on specific topics, which in time grew to be a guideline for future AIESEC generations. In the following decades, debated topics were international trade, management education, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, innovation and corporate social responsibility. Looking for more relevance, nowadays AIESEC is the international platform for young people to explore and develop their potential. Our innovative approach to developing young people focuses on taking a proactive role, developing self-awareness and a personal vision, building networks, and developing capacity to drive change. We do this through an international platform that provides leadership & work abroad opportunities, conferences, and virtual tools to build networks.

Develop today Gaining leadership and other practical skills can be learned in two ways in AIESEC. The internships we provide for students and graduates change peoples’ global mindset and enables them to understand other cultures and optimise business communication in their later careers. On the other hand there is leadership development on a local level where students can operate in teams, take up leadership roles and taste a little of real business life.

Leadership program (LP)

To increase youth impact in the world, we see that society needs leaders who are entrepreneurial, culturally sensitive, socially responsible and take an active part in their own learning. Therefore, we provide each year over 86,000 AIESEC members the challenging opportunity to support the management of the global association through our leadership development programs. The leadership programs offer the opportunity to experience executive-level responsibilities, develop yourself personally & professionally and meet like-minded people that share your values from around the world. Learn how to lead a team, manage large projects and run an organization along with people from all over the world!

Team Leader Program (TLP) A Team Leader Program (TLP) is an opportunity for young people to develop entrepreneurial and responsible leadership skills through leading and guiding others in their work at a local, national, regional or global level. AIESEC UA office provides practical learning and development through the experience of managing a team. TLP participants contribute to the development of others while ensuring AIESEC’s performance and the delivery of its impact on people’s lives. They can have different types of team-based leadership experiences such as leading a team or acting as a part of an executive leadership body. With this program, students gain access to AIESEC’s value-based platform and experience:

§ A practical team or executive leadership experience; § Personal and professional development; § Practical hard and soft skills development; § Activities that develop an entrepreneurial and responsible attitude.

AIESEC UA AIESEC UA is a local committee in AIESEC in Belgium. Divided in different tracks we offer young people the opportunity to learn and develop by doing.

Outgoing Exchange (OGX)

Name: Charlotte Fivez Studies: 3 BA Law studies Current Position: Vice President Outgoing Exchange AIESEC Experience: Team Leader Outgoing Exchange (2013-2014) Team Member Outgoing Exchange (2012-2013)

Motivation: I joined AIESEC because I wanted to go on an exchange. I was curious about the foreign working environment and did not want to stay in Belgium for my first job. This choice was logical after I lived and studied in Brazil for one year. But soon enough I realized that exchange was not the only thing that AIESEC had to offer. Therefore, I decided to take part in this vibrant student organization that offers leadership development possibilities both on an international and on a local university level. There is so much you can do, but it is up to you to decide what your experience will be with AIESEC. Outgoing Exchange: If you put the OGX team within a professional working environment, you can recognize various similar aspects. It is much more than HR, Marketing and Public Speaking. It is the responsibility to introduce the AIESEC platform to the right audience of students, in which they can pursue the international working experience they have always dreamed of. We offer these students 2 remunerated exchange programs: the GIP on a professional level (Global internship Program) and the GCDP on a voluntary basis (Global Community Development Program). OGX members are trained on selling and marketing skills in order to reach a broad range of students and make impact on their lives.

Incoming Exchange (ICX)

Name: Ruxi Mi Studies: 1 MA Applied Economic Sciences - Business Engineering Current Position: Vice President Incoming Exchange AIESEC Experience: Team Leader External Relations (2013 - 2014) Team Member External Relations (2013)

Motivation: Already during my second year of Bachelor in the University of Antwerp, I wanted to do more with my time as a student, except from partying and studying. That is why I joined AIESEC, to develop myself on a personal and professional level and of course to meet a lot of interesting other students. It was a huge success since I met probably the most interesting students on the University campus, I got in touch with major companies, I had a chance to take up responsibilities, and I also have contact with people from all over the world. Incoming Exchange: As you probably know, with AIESEC you have the chance to do an internship abroad, but people from all over the world are also coming to AIESEC UA to do their international internship. Incoming Exchange is responsible for the selection of the interns, getting them to Belgium, and making sure they have the time of their life with us in Antwerp.

External Relations (ER)

Name: Jeroen Janssens Studies: MA Applied Economic Sciences – !!!!! Current Position: Vice President External Relations AIESEC Experience: Team Leader External Relations (2013 - 2014) Team Member External Relations (2012 – 2013)

Motivation: Hi, my name is Jeroen Janssens. I’m currently in my Master of Applied Economic Sciences. Being a VP of External Relations is so far an amazing experience. I chose this function because it gives you a chance to fully develop a sales strategy for an entire year and you get the responsibility of coordinating and leading a sales team of more than 20 motivated sales members. As a leading sales person you get in touch with a variety of interesting companies which makes it also very interesting. External Relations: If you are someone that is eager to learn how to approach companies, if you want to learn how to sell or if you want to extend your business network, than External Relations is the track that will fit you the most. Learning how to communicate a business proposal and to close a deal with companies such as Exxon Mobil, Total or MSC is something you can learn in this track. Improving your sales skills also prepares you for an interview, when you are looking for a job after graduation.

Communications (COMM)

Name: Timo Verbrugghe Studies: 1 MA Business Engineering in Information Management Current Position: Vice President Communications AIESEC Experience: Vice President Project Management (2013- 2014) Team Member Project Management (2012 – 2013) Team Member External Relations (2012-2013)

Motivation: Although I was only a 2nd Bachelor student in my first year of AIESEC, I was already meeting people from more countries than I could ever imagine, participated in projects with several companies, doing my own presentations, creating marketing plans… It all became part of my life when I joined AIESEC. There is so much that AIESEC can offer you with its’ international and professional culture. I can say this without a doubt: joining AIESEC was the best thing I have ever done in my life. Communications: The COMM team is responsible for all internal communication, marketing channels and designs. We think about how to convey the message of our projects, exchanges and so on, in the most effective way to students, companies or the general public. We do this by using social media, email, press releases and other tools. This, combined with unique marketing designs, is what makes up our team. With COMM, you will be able to learn how to promote an international brand, gain knowledge in tools like Photoshop and learn more about marketing in general. On top of that, you will be able to work together with several other teams in AIESEC UA, like Finance, PM and OGX.

Project Management (PM)

Name: Tine Christiaensen Studies: MA Applied Economics !!!! Current Position: Vice President Project Management AIESEC Experience: Team member Talent Management

Motivation: After my first year in AIESEC I realised that it was not just about the words ‘international’, ‘internships’ and ‘Champagnecantus’. One of the things I like most about AIESEC is how other people help you to work hard to become the best version of yourself. Pushing people towards new limits, encouraging members to make AIESEC a part of their life, brainstorming with others about the vision of our AIESEC UA, … these things are the reason why I wanted to become VP Project Management. After working in a team towards an event and seeing the great results you accomplished all together, this proudness is a feeling you cannot obtain somewhere else. Project Management Project Management is all about the events AIESEC organizes throughout the year: Job Fair, Job Alert, Champagne Cantus, Harbour Week, Christmas Party, … Every project has it’s own team with members responsible for the different aspects: finance, communication, logistics, catering, agenda manager, company manager, … The main thing you will get from my track is the feeling that you truly accomplished something big, you will learn how to handle last-minute problems and you will definitely realize that you are capable of more than you think.

Name: Isabelle Cammaert Studies: MA Applied Economic Sciences – Economic Policy Current Position: Vice President Talent Management AIESEC Experience: Team Leader External Relations (2013 – 2014) Team Member External Relations (2013)

Motivation: As a teamleader of External Relations I saw the personal and professional change in myself as well as in my team members. This made me realize the potential of AIESEC UA extrapolated to a much larger group of people. Proving this impact to all members and developing their potential to the limit is what motivates me for this position. Talent Management: The TM team is comparable to the Human Resources department of an organization. Our job is to guarantee the ongoing inflow of talented people and to make sure all stakeholders enjoy the greatest AIESEC experiences. Besides, talent management will focus on the personal education and development of people’s soft skills and will provide several activities in order to enhance the AIESEC family bond.
