Lion City Singapore

Singapore is both an island and a country, located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore City, known as the Lion City, the name of the city is derived from the Malay word “Singapura”, which “Singa”means "lion" and “Pura” means "city".

Small Island Economic Giant Though physically small, Singapore is an economic giant. Its GDP per capita is ranking global No.5 by World Bank. It’s the world's fourth-leading financial centre, and its port is one of the five busiest ports in the world. The business climate in Singapore is remarkable, global citizens feel right at home in Singapore, with over 7,000 MNCs operating here. Singapore offers a stable base where companies can consolidate their knowledge and competitive advantage, leveraging their positions to seize opportunities and drive their expansion into the emerging markets of Asia. Also the city ranked first in Asia and eleventh in the world for quality of life by the economists.

Diverse Cultures Singapore is a very diverse and young country. Its people are made of Chinese , Malay, Indian and other races. This diversity also translates into a unique mix of religions, languages, cultural traditions and cuisines. The successful integration of the different segments of population has created a quiet respect for each other. In Singapore, it is not uncommon to find a mosque next to a temple, and mixed marriages

reinforcing social cohesion.

Note: The ★ marks the highest number, for realization it is the peak.

For this winter LC winter holiday NUS: Dec 8, 2013-Jan 12, 2014(5 weeks) 50+ realization NTU: Dec 9, 2013-Jan 10, 2014(5 weeks) 50+ realization SMU: Dec 6,2013-Jan 5, 2014 (5 weeks) 20 realization SIM-RMIT: Nov 9, 2013-Jan 5, 2014(8 weeks) less than 10 realization

Because of Singapore’s strict 5-week winter vacation calendar, although generally our winter realization is in December, however, most of our EPs can only go on exchange from the 2nd week in December and altogether can only go for 5 weeks. We would really appreciate country partners’ understanding to be more flexible with our EPs and give them an opportunity to maximize the 5-week time to make the impact Actually, because our EPs know that they have quite limited time during winter, they always make full use of everyday during the exchange!
