There are three main stages of HIV infection
1. Acute infection
2. Clinical latency
3. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

PREVENTION
Primarily through safe sex and needle-exchange programs.
There is no cure or vaccine however, antiretroviral treatment can slow the course of the disease and may lead to a near-normal life expectancy.
