what is the aia?

The American Institute of Architects

It is the national association for architects and design professionals. When you see the designation “AIA” following the name of an architect, it means that he or she is a fully licensed and registered architect who upholds the highest standards of ethics and professional practice. It means that he or she is a member of The American Institute of Architects and they are dedicated to providing quality design, safeguarding the public and improving our built environment.

The American Institute of Architects was created in 1857. For over 150 years the organization has provided education, government advocacy, community development, public outreach activities and has endeavored to create an environment that is responsive to the people it serves.

As members of the AIA, more than 80,000 licensed architects and associatedprofessionals express their commitment to quality design and livability in our built environments.
