COMMISSIONING RESULTS SYSTEM REPORT SHEET

SYSTEM: General Supply - AHU's 1, 2, 3 & 4

This supply system comprises of four ahu’s located on the second floor plant deck. This system is generally three ahu’s running and one stand by. Our commissioning works have been divided into three sections, the first proportional balance of secondary grilles located on the ground floor, the second controls calibration and the third pressure regime set up.

Secondary Balance

Prior to carrying out the proportional balance of the grilles on the ground floor, the design volume for the required stack was set via the vcd in the plantroom and the volume measured by means of pitot traverse. Whilst carrying out this exercise both major and minor dampers were position to fifty percent open to simulate the operating conditions of the system. This was done, as the controls were incomplete at the time of testing. Factors have been used on both size hoods for the supply and the extract. They are as follows:

Supply – 600 x 600 the factor was taken at grille T40/04 = 1.06Supply – 1200 x 600 the factor is a summation of the grilles in the procedure rooms against the traverse in the plantroom. We calculated this factor for all the procedure rooms and used the average. This was done, as there was no other suitable location for a factor at the time of testing. = 1.15Extract – 600 x 600 the factor was taken at grille’s E48/07 & E48/06 = 1.0Extract – 1200 x 600 the factor was taken in the procedure rooms, using the single grille volume against the traverse in the plantroom. . We calculated this factor for all the procedure rooms and used the average. This was done, as there was no other suitable location for a factor at the time of testing = 1.18

These factors have been applied to the readings taken from the balometer.

Controls Calibration

The controls system operates using the following method. A single point velocity sensor measures the velocity of the air as it passes through the duct, this velocity is then multiplied by the free area of the duct in which it is located to calculate the volume of air passing through the stack. When testing we found that a single point reading did not provide an accurate representation of the volume of air passing through the stack. Although the sensors are generally located after the hepa filter this did not stabilised the flow of air, therefore a single point reading does not give a true volume as the velocity of the air differs through out the duct.

We calibrated each sensor by measuring a volume by means of pitot traverse. We have taken the majority of these volumes in the attenuators. We did this where we were unable to obtain a suitable test point due to the ductwork configuration. Before measuring the volume of air at the stack we confirmed it was controlling at the design volume via the bms. Then using the following formula we calibrated the sensor by factorising the free area of the duct in which the sensor is located.

This ultimately would change the bms volume, we would then wait for the stack to control to the required set point and re-measure the traverse to confirm the volume was correct. All the factorised areas have been recorded on a separate spreadsheet please see this for further information.

Pressure Regime

The controls of the building work by supplying the required amount of air to each room, the extract will then control to suit the design pressure in the space. Please see layout drawing for required pressures in each room. We have then validated the pressure regime on the ground floor with our Micromanometer to confirm we are achieving the correct room differential pressures. All of these tests have been carried out with all doors shut.
