Reverent Sir,
The following few lines have
been jotted down for your sympathetic
consideration and benign action. I am a
bonafide student of this prestigious
college in F. Sc. Pre-Medical Part-I for
the session 2018-19.
It is apprised that my father is
a professor of English. He has been
posted to Rahim Yar Khan as a result
of a directive by Higher Education
Department Punjab. The whole family
is UNDER THE LASH to shift to the said
place. I have to accompany my parents
and continue my study there. I have
applied for the college leaving
certificate and migration certificate as
well in this regard.
At the time of admission, I
deposited Rs. 3000 as the security of
the college library. During my stay over
here, I have been a profound learner
and excellent book reader. Most of my
time has been spent in the college
library, indulging into the valuable
treatise of knowledge. Therefore, I
have been very respectful towards
books. I have never damaged any book.
Moreover, I have no book due to me.
It is humbly implored that my
library fee may be refunded as per
condition of the admission that library
security fee is refundable. I shall be
obliged to you if my request is promptly
entertained.
Thanking in anticipation
Yours obediently,

expenses of his offspring. All of my
siblings are school going at different

aggravated the plight of the family. My

I have been a diligent and bright
student. I stood the first in my
matriculation exams at the district level
securing 95% marks. I am a good orator

some distinction in the board. I promise
you that I shall leave no stone unturned

I request you to grant me full fee

scholarship so that I may be able to
materialize my dreams. It will be a great

few medicines and complete bed rest

As a result, I am unable to

pursuance.
I request you to grant me one

APPLICATION FOR SUBJECT CHANGEThe Principal,
Govt. Degree College,
(City) A.B.C.
Subject: Subject Change
Reverent Sir,
The following few lines are
jotted down for your sympathetic
consideration and benign action. I am a
bonafide student of this prestigious
college in F. A Part-I for the session
2019-20.
It is apprised that I opted
political science as an elective subject
at the time of admission into this
college on the direction of my father
who is a political and social activist.
But, unfortunately I couldn’t develop
affinity with the subject. It has always
been difficult for me to memorize the
historic events with date and numbers. I
am much interested in English literature
which fascinates me and takes to the
dreamy world where everything happens
in a different way. It is soothing and
entertaining. The book of past and
imaginary world sways before our eyes.
The unheard melodies of our
imaginations are more pleasant than the
heard melodies of the world. Literature
enlightens our soul and purifies our
ideas by getting a lesson from the past.
The art of literature is long but the life
of political treachery, selfishness and
craze for power is short. Thus I have
decided to opt English literature as an
elective subject. I have consulted with
my father in this regard and he has
consented me to change my subject to
English Literature.
I request you
to sanction the change of subject. I
shall leave no stone unturned and burn
the midnight oil to make the college a
great success. Your approval of my
application will be a great favour to me
as well as my family.
Thanking in anticipation
Yours obediently,
X.Y.Z. (Name). August 11, 2019.

auspicious day. The gay songs that usually
accompany wedding ceremonies were not
sung for, after all, this was Maulvi Abdul
Barkat’s residence. Music of any kind could
not be allowed in his house. So the village
girls simply sat in a circle round the shy
bride and for several nights sang songs of
love and friendship, flowers and their
fragrance, and the romantic rainy season
which has a special significance for young
men and women in rural Punjab. They also
sang sweet songs of excitement of union
and the pangs separation.
2.After the ceremonies were over, Mehrun was
made to sit in a palanquin. Beautifully
decorated it was covered with a large silken
cloth so that the bride could go to the bride
groom’s house in strict Purdah. As two
sturdy villagers carried it away, Maulvi
Abdul walked a few steps with it. He must
have cried silently for his eyes and nose
were red and he looked pale. At the same
time he looked at peace.
3.Before his marriage, Maulvi Abdul Barkat,
alias, Abul, used to live in comfort, even
pomp. On his head he wore a light brown
turban know as Mashadi Lungi, because it
originally came from Mashad in Iran. The
glided tip of his cap used to shine brightly
above the turban. He always carried a
walking stick, a sort of scepter with
decorative bands of brass and gilt. For his
hair, he used fragrant oils. Its sweat pungent
smell lingered in the village lanes whenever
he walked through them.
4.On the other hand, nobody could restrain
Shamim Ahmad from celebrating his
marriage any way he desired. So he came to
marry Mehrun amidst fireworks with
musicians playing gay tunes. That night,
after a lot of whispering in one corner of the
house, many trunks were dragged out and
opened. The next morning when the dowry
was exhibited in the courtyard, the entire
village was stunned by what it saw. People
were not impressed much with the colourful
clothes, for this was not unusual. But the
jewellery? It was incredible. Some secretly
believed that the Maulvi had a special
amulet whose charm blessed him with
secret power to get as much money as he
desired from the angels.

1.That day, in order not do disappoint his
erstwhile disciple and his aged mother.
Maulvi Abdul took a momentous decision.
He went to his wife and said: ―Shamim
Ahmed wants me to inaugurate his shop by
becoming his first customer. If you agree,
let us buy a piece of cloth for Mehrun’s suit.
In any case we will need it for her dowry. My
purchase in the presence of the entire
village may impress them.
2.Maulvi Adbul sighed and wiped the tears
from his eyes and his face, with the loose
end of his turban. In a quivering voice, he
said; ―Oh Allah, daughters are your helpless
creatures‖! He caught hold of Shamim
Ahmad’s hand.
3.In the crowd, there was also a loudmouthed
old hag who seemed to have other views. In
a loud whisper, she pointed out the several
suits in the dowry had once belonged to a
woman who had died young. There were
others which had been part of Zaibun’s
dowry. ―Even the bracelets and the gold
nose ring are hers‖, she added with
conviction. But the gold pendants? She
raised her eyes and looked towards the
heaven as they were a gift from there.
4.Maulvi Abdul looked first towards his eldest
daughter, then towards the row of children
who had appeared on the scene. They had
all clustered round their sister. They looked
disappointed, for he had returned empty
handed. They had to be pleased first. So he
