REFERS TO  BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC BY PRODUCTS OF FARMING PRACTICES THAT RESULT IN CONTAMINATION OR DEGRADATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND SURROUNDING ECOSYSTEMS, AND/OR CAUSE INJURY TO HUMANS AND THEIR ECONOMIC INTERESTS.

Main causes of agriculture pollution

Pesticides and Fertilizers Contaminated Water Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Livestock Pests and Weeds

USED TO CORRECT SOIL DEFICIENCIES.NECESSARY NUTRIENTS LIKE NITROGEN(N), PHOSPHORUS(P), POTASSIUM(K), CALCIUM, MAGNESIUM AND MANY MORE ARE OBTAINED FROM FERTILIZERS

Fertilizer (or fertiliser in British English)

Pesticide To kill, destory pests and weeds. Decrease fertility of soil

TYPES OF FERTILIZERS

Organic fertilizers-• Obtained from naturally

occurring substances.• Made from plant,

animal by products.• Compost , manure,

marine byproducts.

Inorganic fertilizers-• Synthetically

manufactured.• Like nitrogen fertilizers,

potassium fertilizers, phosphorous fertilizers.

• Readily dissolved in soil.

Advantages of Inorganic Fertilizers and Pesticide

• Can make the desired ratio of nutrients• easy to get• lower cost• Reduces soil life from 2 to 16 years.• Reduces nitrogen fixation• Destroys habitats, threatens species• Contamination of ground water.

Disadvantages of Inorganic Fertilizers

• Accumulation of soil acidity in soil which increases aluminium availability and hence toxin.

• Fertilizer burn.• Nitrogen fertilizer can be

converted by soil bacteria to nitrogen oxide, a greenhouse gas which also causes acid rain.

Fertilizer Analysis

Fertilizer analysis expresses weight as a percent of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium

Many ways to reduce pollution

• Nutrient management• Cover crops• Buffers• Managing livestock waste• Drainage water management
