Agile Strategy Execution (ASE):

Principles

2

Definition: “Translating strategy into a reality that is aligned, accountable & responsive”

• Strategy (goals/initiatives/tactics/projects) are linked & coordinated

• Process to align/ cascade org. & dept. plans vertically & horizontally

• Tactics/projects. projects aligned & cascaded from linked objectives/tacticsAligned

• Data & outcome driven team buy-in & ownership

• Progress to plan is regularly measured & reported

• Metrics variances lead to real-time discussion/ refinement of all effected dept. plans, budgets & actions

Accountable

• Ongoing adaptation/realignment to the changing landscape

• Cross-dept. objectives, actions and metrics are managed real time

• Variances leading to ongoing plan & activity discussion and refinementResponsive

ASE Framework:

6 Dimensions

5

Incorporate a systematic & disciplined approach focusing on translating

breakthrough objectives into specific functional 'Area' plans & metrics.

Ensure that strategic goals are cascaded and aligned both vertically &

cross-functionally, driving progress/actions at all organization levels.

Drive real-time plan updates based on day to day ‘triggers’, ensuring properly prioritized & scheduled work.

Ensure appropriate resourcing & course correcting solutions to manage

prioritization and backlog.

Update strategies real-time and reassess operating priorities predominately

based on variances in our performance or metrics.

Assess core business assumptions, updating or revising strategic & operating plans, linkages & alignment as needed.

Maturity Level: Maturity of the organization’s strategy implementation processes

Baseline: Strategy is separate from organization’s processes, or no formal strategy execution processes utilized.

Task Oriented: Processes are inconsistent, or not well defined, or are in limited use.

Managed: Processes are well established, repeatable and utilized throughout the organization.

Integrated: Consistent processes used, org- wide depts. collaborate to Id. & mange dependencies & resource constraints.

Optimized: There is an ongoing agile refinement process used throughout the Strategy Execution cycle.

Maturity Category: Four key strategy execution elements

Creation: Method to gather, synthesize & manage vital information for developing organization & dept. plans & actions.

Aligned: Degree to which the organization shares, coordinates, and cascades strategic plans & actions.

Accountable: Degree to which metrics, process indicators, tactics & measures are used to drive to desired results.

Responsive: How well the strategy, metrics and tactics are deployed, managed & refined: real-time.
