BUDGETINGThe best way to manage your money over the course of a semester is to sit down and map out a budget. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you spend, even on the little things. You might find some ways to curb your expenses and help you save money.

TUITION AND FEESCreate a game plan to ensure you’re able to graduate on time. At OSU, the average number of credit hours to complete a degree is 120 credit hours. To graduate in four years, you must complete 30 credit hours per year. An extra year of school costs you additional money and lost earnings from not getting started on your career.

ROOM AND BOARDIf possible, consider less expensive housing options. This may include choosing a less expensive room and meal plan, or you may decide to move off campus or apply for a position as a community mentor to reduce costs after your freshman year.

BOOKS AND SUPPLIESYou can reduce the amount you pay for books and supplies if you shop for used books and carefully consider what course material is necessary. Students who purchase their books from the OSU Student Union Bookstore can look into their textbook buyback option each semester, or you may consider using the library’s textbook reserve option.

PERSONAL EXPENSESWatch these expenses closely. Create a budget and set spending limits for yourself. Watch out for credit cards - students with little or no income who buy on credit can quickly fall behind in payments and be subject to high interest rates.

OSU BURSAR ACCOUNTYour student bursar account is a record of charges, payments and applied financial assistance. The Office of the Bursar bills and collects all university-related charges for a student. Be aware that your bill must be paid on time in order to avoid a monthly finance charge and to prevent holds on future semester enrollment.

TRAVEL EXPENSESUtilize OSU’s bus system on campus and in Stillwater, which is free to students. A shuttle service is also available between OSU campuses in Stillwater and Tulsa. Consider riding a bike when possible, use discount airline fares and other inexpensive travel methods for your trips to and from school and avoid extra trips.

Scholarship Opportunities

Students may only receive the award with the highest value they are eligible for from the University Assured Scholarship or Partnered Scholarship categories. Exceptions include Oklahoma’s Promise and Cowboy Covenant, which can be combined with one award in the University Assured Scholarship or Partnered Scholarship categories. Students must maintain a minimum GPA and number of credit hours per semester to renew assured scholarship opportunities each year. Renewable scholarship qualifications may vary. Deadlines, figures and admission requirements are subject to change. Visit okstate.edu for the most up-to-date information on admission and scholarships at Oklahoma State University. If selected, students may receive either the President’s Distinguished Scholarship OR the President’s Leadership Council Scholarship. Either award may be paired with other university scholarships.*Dependent on $2,000 unmet need (as determined by the FAFSA). Estimated based on 30 credit hours per academic year.**Dependent on $2,500 unmet need (as determined by the FAFSA). Estimated based on 30 credit hours per academic year.

Check with your high school guidance counselor to seek out opportunities in your community and online. Many students receive a number of local scholarships to help pay for college. Visit the OSU Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid website at financialaid.okstate.edu for additional information.

ESTIMATED COSTSEstimated educational expenses are shown below for the 2020-21 school year. Your actual costs will vary. These estimates are based on block rate tuition, which charges a single rate for students taking 12 to 18 credit hours. The block rate is a great tool for students to make the most of their tuition dollars and finish college on time. For complete information, visit financialaid.okstate.edu.

Tuition & Fees $12,700

Room & Board $9,340

Books & Supplies $1,140

Cost of Attending OSU $23,180

WORK FOR ITGetting a part-time job is a great way to build your résumé with work experience while developing time management skills and helping cover costs and personal expenses. There are more than 5,000 on-campus jobs available to OSU students. On-campus jobs usually offer 12 to 20 hours of work per week. Many jobs are available in the Stillwater community, too. Finding a job is as easy as applying online at HireOSUGrads.com. Jobs will be available for search after enrollment.

Financial Aid 101

WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID?Money from outside the household that helps pay college expenses.

WHAT IS THE FAFSA?The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an online form that must be completed to apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study and loans. The FAFSA is also used to determine eligibility for state and school aid. Visit fafsa.gov to complete the form.

EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION (EFC)Your EFC is the amount the government formulates that a family can contribute to educational expenses. Your EFC will remain the same regardless of what institution you attend. It is calculated when you complete the FAFSA.

SOURCES OF FINANCIAL AID• The federal government is the largest source of grants, loans and work-study.

• OSU offers many scholarships based on need and/or merit (i.e., test scores and GPA).

• For more details about possible financial awards, visit okla.st/types-of-aid.

About 85 percent of current OSU students receive some sort of financial aid. Get all the facts before you make one of the biggest decisions of your life. Your costs may be less than you think!

Scholarships in CASNR

The College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources and its departments annually award more than $1.7 million in scholarships to students enrolled in and entering the college. When awarding scholarships, CASNR looks at several areas of a student’s background including (but not limited to) scholastic standing in high school or college, leadership qualities, financial need and sincere interest in the various CASNR disciplines. Students from all majors are considered for university scholarships which can be combined with college and departmental scholarship opportunities.

Opportunities to Excel

OSU offers several scholarships open to academically high-achieving, highly motivated students like you. Foremost among them is the very competitive Oklahoma State Scholars Society. The Oklahoma State Scholars Society is a four-year cost-of-attendance award and academic development program that provides a world-class education as well as study-abroad opportunities. Other notable programs include the Freshman Research Scholars and the President’s Leadership Council. Learn more at financialaid.okstate.edu.

Access and Affordability

OSU is dedicated to providing an accessible and affordable education for our students. That’s why we’ve developed money-saving options like block rate tuition and the bursar’s payment option plan which allows you to make semester-based monthly tuition payments instead of paying one lump sum. Our Academic Opportunity Award provides $2,500 per year to students with financial need who graduate from underrepresented high schools.

Tuition & Fees $28,220

Room & Board $9,340

Books & Supplies $1,140

Cost of Attending OSU $38,700

WORK FOR ITGetting a part-time job is a great way to build your résumé with work experience while developing time management skills and helping cover costs and personal expenses. There are more than 5,000 on-campus jobs available to OSU students. On-campus jobs usually offer 12 to 20 hours of work per week. Many jobs are available in the Stillwater community, too. Finding a job is as easy as applying online at HireOSUGrads.com. Jobs will be available for search after enrollment.

Scholarship Opportunities

Students may only receive the award with the highest value they are eligible for from the University Assured Scholarship or Partnered Scholarship categories.Students must maintain a minimum GPA and number of credit hours per semester to renew assured scholarship opportunities each year.

Either award may be paired with other university scholarships.

Check with your high school guidance counselor to seek out opportunities in your community and online. Many students receive a number of local scholarships to help pay for college. Visit the OSU Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid website at financialaid.okstate.edu for additional information.
