Learn Green Conference

Members reviewed the HKHC participation in the conference. Suggestions were given for next year’s conference.

Tom Salinsky and James Quillian presented at the Learn Green Conference on Innovative School Gardens to a standing room only crowd. South Grade ES and Lake Worth MS were highlighted.

Erica Whitfield presented on Joint Use agreements.

Molly Sims presented on Butterfly Gardening and participants raved about the class.

At the end of the day Learn Green Participants were given the opportunity to tour Forest Hill Elementary School and Lake Worth Middle School. A video of the event was created and will be distributed to the coalition when it is finalized.

Comments for next year:

Members would have liked to see testimonials from students.

The tour could be expanded to a full day encompassing more of the HKHC gardens.

Potential participation in a farmers market.

The members would like HKHC to participate in hosting Learn Green again next year. They felt it was a very valuable event for the community and for HKHC goal promotion.

Molly has offered to give her butterfly gardening class at an upcoming HKHC meeting.

Include the mobile green market.

Berkshire Elementary/Lake Worth Middle Joint Use

Fencing for the Berkshire Elementary School Joint Use project will be going in early December. The final approval was given from the Board of County Commissioners on the project, October 16, 2012. Work is being done to convene a group to give quotes on the path. Design work is being done by PBC Parks and Recreation, Casey Prankun.

The Lake Worth Middle School Agreement is the next to be worked on. A meeting was had with the City Manager who agreed to create the signage at the site, staff time and to run marketing information in the newsletter. Anyone interested in working on the agreement, please talk with Erica.

Community and School Gardens

The North Grade Elementary slideshow was shown. This partnership between PBSO and the School District was shown at the most recent Wellness Promotion Taskforce meeting.

Fitness Zone and Grand Opening

Grand Opening for the Fitness Zone is scheduled for November 14, 2012.

Wellness Recognition

Wellness recognition is coming up on December 6, 2012. We would love to have all members attend this special day where we are able to recognize everyone who makes this grant possible.
