A function is just a relationship between 2 things, where one depends on the other

Domain – All possible x values

For a relationship to be a function, each input (x-value) can only have one output (y-value)

Range – All possible y values

Function Notation: Introduction 1

y = 3x + 2

• Often, we use something called function notation in place of the y in equations. It is used to save time and make things simpler.

Find the value of y when x = 5

f(x) = 3x + 2

Find f(5)

Page 12: Agenda Getting Started (10 min) Conjunction Junction, What’s Your Function, pt 2 (30 min) Quiz (20 min) Bag ‘O Vocab (30 min)

Function Notation: Practice 2

f(x) = 2x+8

g(x) = 8x – 6

f(x) = 6x + 7x

Find f(3)

Find f(-5)

Find g(10)

f(x) = 2x+8

g(x) = 3x

Find f(g(5))
