• Death toll: 38 million in Europe, 22 million Soviets, 6 million Jews dead

• Nuremburg Trials– punished Nazi leaders for “crimes against humanity”

• Balfour Declaration• Idea of creating a homeland for the Jews after WII with the establishment of

Israel• Based on Zionism – Jewish nationalism

• United Nations – purpose to provide a place to discuss world problems and develop solutions• Replaced League of Nations• Still in place today, but still no enforcement power
