Purpose of this Post

To staff the reception desk at Age UK Wigan Borough, being the first point of contact for people calling the office either on the phone or in person.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. To answer phone calls into the office, to deal with simple enquiries and to take referrals for services. To be aware of the different needs that older callers may have when phoning and take time to listen to their concerns.

2. To greet callers to the office, through the intercom system, to deal with simple enquiries or to ensure that they sign in and are escorted to other members of staff when they have an appointment.

3. To accurately input information on our database, ensuring that all data protection requirements are complied with.

4. To support other members of staff with admin roles as required.

5. To ensure that post is opened, the post register is maintained, and that post is franked and taken to the post box on time each day.

6. To work with other volunteers constructively, particularly those who have performed the ‘switch’ function and are returning post Covid 19.

7. To support the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities under Health and Safety. You may be asked to take on roles such as First Aider, Health and Safety representative or Fire Marshall for which appropriate training will be given.

8. To support students on placements. This may include having students that shadow your work or performing a supervisory role. Appropriate training will be given.

9. To participate in Age UK Wigan Borough promotional events as required.

10.To work within all the guidelines, policies and procedures as set out by Age UK Wigan Borough.

11.To attend Induction, Training and any Staff Meetings as and when required.

12.To carry out any other duties as may be requested which are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
