Ms.KarenSmileyhasover30yearsofpracticalexperiencedevelopingandmanaginganalytical,real-time,anddatabasesystemsthroughthefulllifecycleofmultipleindustrialsoftware-hardwareproductsandservicesystems. Her experience spans small startups to large global enterprises across the domains of steelmanufacturing, aerospace and military, 5leet logistics, data networking, telecommunications, industrialautomation, power grids, and electri5ication. Ms. Smiley has built deep expertise in agile research anddevelopmentandinanalysisofscienti5icandtechnicaldata.Todate,shehasco-inventedon6USpatentsandauthored or co-authored over 40 academic and industrial papers. She regularly serves on conferenceprogramcommitteesforseveralofherareasofexpertise.AsaLeadPrincipalScientistatABBUSCorporateResearch,Ms. Smiley currently leads theUSAnalyticsSolutionCenteractivities inglobal collaborationsonadvanced industrial analytics, and supports ABB research teams in lean/agile adoption. Her most recentfocus at ABB is on edge and hybrid analytics for renewable energy grids. Ms. Smiley holds a Bachelor ofScience degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Pittsburgh inPittsburgh,PA,andaMasterofSciencedegreeinComputerSciencefromStevensInstituteofTechnologyinHoboken,NJ.ShebecameaCerti5iedScrumMaster™in2003.LuciaGauchiaistheRichardandElizabethHenesAssistantProfessorofEnergyStorageSystemsatMichiganTechUniversitysinceFall2013andsheholdsajointappointmentintheECEandME-EMdepartments.SheobtainedherPh.D.onElectricalEngineeringattheUniversityCarlosIIIofMadrid(Spain)in2010.In2017shehasbeenawardedaprestigiousNSFCAREERAwardonherworkonbatteryagingtestingandestimation formultiple life applications. In 2012, before her current appointment, shewas a PostdoctoralAssociateatMcMasterUniversity(Canada)onenergystoragetechnologiesfortransportationelectri5icationat the McMaster Institute for Automotive Research and Technology. She was a lecturer in the UniversityCarlosIIIofMadrid(Spain)between2008and2010andavisitingscholartotheUniversityofLille1(France)during2011.SheiscurrentlyanAssociateEditorforIEEETransactionsofTransportationElectri5icationandIEEETransactionsonVehicularTechnology.
